Awesome guy. I love his comments about having unique sounds in the orchestra...I think it is what makes (used to make?) different orchestras and ensembles have a unique flavor. Everything is much too homogeneous now.
Michael Davis is as good an interviewer as he is a trombonist: this gives you some indication of how great he is. a remarkable listener and the perfect straight man for Mark Gould.
I’ve listened to this Interview various times and I never get tire of listening to it. Mr. Davis is a great interviewer; engaging, ask great questions and a great listener. Mr. Gould is a great musician to interview, aside from being a phenomenal musician, he’s very honest, straight forward and very entertaining.

This guy played with the Met???? Wow. Thought legit players were all stogdy, boring old men that eat watercress sandwiches. This guy I bet is as wild as the old guys..Morazt and Beethoven. they weren't PC people. Love to hear someone use bad words.and give it to the powers that be,
Great interview! I have one comment about the remark about the death of the orchestra at 31:00. I can only speak from my own experience, but among my circle, many of us simply can't afford to go to the orchestra. When we do go, it's a once per season, special treat kind of a thing--I mean, a lot of us struggle to make rent, put food on the table, and pay other bills. Sadly, those things have to take priority financially. And now, if you take into consideration recent statistics that have come out about the median wage and net worth of my generation, I feel comfortable saying that most people simply can't go to the orchestra, as much as they may want to. I know that that is my case and the case of many of my friends. It's a sad situation /:
