one thing i wished i mentioned just offhandedly is the guy who plays sweets, the psychologist in the show John Francis Daley wrote the Dungeons & Dragons movie that came out last year. what an icon
my parents recently finished re-watching all of Bones. i don't remember how far i got back in the day. but it was fun. as far as police procedural go, i feel like it has aged better than most.
i agree 100%! sure there are some rough spots (no show is perfect) but in comparison, i do think bones has definitely aged a bit better than most other crime procedurals from the 2000s/2010s.
I remember watching bones from the time I was 6 all the way to the end from cable to streaming with my mom. Watching it again today has some mixed feelings but I loved it so much
i ALSO started watching bones when i was very young, and basically watched it with my mom until the very end! i find that watching bones with one's mom seems to be a bit of a common experience with bones haha. but yes, i definitely have some mixed feelings about the show/the genre of crime procedurals too
Chewing on bones tv they are all my blorbos actually. But my roommate and I frequently mention that ghosts are cannon on bones but also there’s always a “are ghosts/ supernatural really real???” In any ghostly or psychic episode. I also love that they mention the show sleepy hollow before the crossover which is just funny to think about
ALSO I swear the security guard bones is friends w is also a ghost. In the episode where she sees the victim as herself in one of the middle/later seasons. Loved the video 😊
ik!! it's funny to me that bones like. causally confirms ghosts exist yet most characters seem to be completely unaware of it. yes i think i forgot to mention in the vid that hodgins LITERALLY references sleepy hollow as a SHOW before the crossover haha
yes!! ghost in the machine is probably one of the few episodes of later seasons i would go back to rewatch, the showrunners really did something cool with that episode!
Bones is also my favourite procedural. I love how irreverent it is! The best part though is the characters and their collective chemistry with each other. No matter what's happening in the actual episode, I'm here for their dynamics together ❤
I think it's interesting when you said the show is mostly agnostic, because I always felt the show, especially the later seasons, tended to be more religious, despite Brennan delivering the ultra rational explanations. That being said, the supernatural episodes are my favorites to rewatch. Edit: The joke for The Ghost in the Machine made me laugh hard enough to send me into a coughing fit, that was good.
it's interesting to hear that! i think the reason i largely see the show as mostly agnostic is due to the fact i mainly watch episodes from the first five seasons AT MOST, and don't really delve into the later seasons, just because i don't particularly care for booth and brennan's romantic relationship, so i don't tend to pick up on the more religious undertones there. this project was actually the first time in a while i was watching episodes from later in the series since they'd probably started airing, but that's very interesting to note!!
@@thealrightoddity I agree, the religious overtones definitely comes in after season 5ish. I'm also not really religious, so I may be more on the sensitive side to when I do see it and assume it's the whole show lol
@@thealrightoddity More than slightly, her mom tells her something that nobody (certainly not Brennan) possibly could have known and heavily implies that she's in The Christian Heaven.
omg wow yeah, i just looked up that episode!! i have no idea how i missed it with my research, but that definitely is a lot bigger than i remember. totally counts to confirming the existence of an afterlife, if not the christian heaven!
I remember being maybe 6 going to my neighbors apartment and her introducing me to bones, I went almost everytime it aired until my neighbor and her daughter who was eighteen moved away around the time bones got pregnant.
this is so funny!! i was just talking to my friend about how i wish bones had done more with the ghosts, how i felt like bones also had a bit of "sight" with how she could "see" peoples faces in their bones! i also think bones and booth should have stayed friends!
omg what a coincidence! that's so cool. and ooo yeah, bones and booth were at their peak when they weren't dating/married. idk maybe it's just the way i see things as an asexual person but their bond has always read as a platonic "i'd both die AND kill for you" sort of bond. i don't mind that they're together but their dynamic was better when they weren't married or dating, in my opinion!
@thealrightoddity i think I dislike it more for the fact that I loved their friendship and also the writers really changed bones' character (not for the better imo) I loved how she was a cool, savvy, independent autistic (coded) professional...and once they got together I feel like they lost the nuance and just turned her into robot wife? Sorry that was so long lol
One thing I started to notice in the last maybe 3 or 4 seasons of Bones is that the first suspect interrogated ends up being the perpetrator of the crime investigated. I don't think every episode was like that but I did catch a pattern. Anyone else notice that?
i honestly haven't watched a lot of the later seasons (for the most part my re-watches are exclusively season 1-5) but i can definitely see that becoming a pattern. i guess with such a long-running show, it's bound to start to develop a slight pattern after a while
I loved Bones when I was an early teen and I had no memory of this show having so much supernatural stuff😭 It's both crazy and hilarious, considering that out of the big 3 of procedural dramas (Mentalist, Bones and Castle) I always saw Bones as the most scientific one
yes!!! that's what i always found so fascinating about bones! this procedural drama based on science also had a hidden supernatural underbelly, and like very few people online were talking about it (that i could find haha)
Amazing video, what a pleasure to discover another great video essayist !! I used to watch Bones on TV aaalll the way back then and haven't had the opportunity to jump back in yet- This has been such a lovely reminder of what made this series great ! I can't wait to rewatch it and to watch all the videos of your channel, yay !!
i described bones to my girlfriend as "it's a procedural crime drama that takes place in the real world, except ghosts are real, psychics are real, and Bones is empirically wrong about God and Heaven"
I'm less than 5min in and I already know that this is gonna be so good. Subscribed ❤ Update: Yes, it was absolutely as awesome as I thought is was going to be 😍
I thought this would be about the bizarre crossover between _Bones_ and _Sleepy Hollow,_ so I ended up skipping to that part. I thought this was bizarre at the time, and it also annoyed me because the wrong couple (for me) was being pushed as a couple. I agree Temperance and Booth should be platonic.
You do realise this show crossed over with Sleep Hollow? So, not only does God Exist, but Brennan met thee Ichabod Crane, the one form the short story, who is one of the Biblical WItness's to the End Time. This means the Bones universe exist in a world with the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.
I remember the short lived show “The Finder” which was a bit of a spinoff from Bones and took place in the same universe as Bones and had a definite metaphysical nature to it
