exactly, I never cared about directors, I might know a few names, but that's just it, I'd just be hyped about the actors, and I love the actor that does the father of the rich family but I don't even care. I haven't seen such a nice person as Bong Joon Ho in a very long time. I just love him. He's my favorite from this crew. And I also think I like the translator, although it's unfair cause she's getting points from what the crew says xD so I enojoyed the last guy asking about her, she deserved some attention
Because you are such a good person who has broader sympathy and understanding without any prejudice. I am Korean, but I admire and respect people like you deeply. And I feel proud that we have people like you on this earth.
While we Asians are celebrating him for representing us, Bong himself doesn’t really feel like he’s representing anything. He’s just making film. That’s it. And true, there are many great Asian directors. How humble he is.
@Smirk he is saying Bong doesn't make films thinking, "I'm gonna do this for Korea!" He does it with his own passion and his own artistry, just wanting to create an amazing story to share with the world. It's just a great bonus that he is Asian representing the Asian community and Korea with his talent. His win opened the door for future non-English films to be considered for more than just a foreign title. He even talks about this.
Smirk said Bong him self. You should watch all his interviews, he’s been questioned about it so many times. I’m sorry if you’re 12 and don’t understand his meaning yet.
From what I understand about interpreting, what they write down is just symbols that they understand. Wired made a good video explaining how interpreting works and they showed examples of these notes. So basically if they did turn it into a book, it'd be nonsense
Conference interpreter Barry Slaughter Olsen explains what it's really like to be a professional interpreter. Barry goes behind the scenes of his vocation, breaking down the many real-life scenarios he faces on a day-to-day basis. From simultaneous and consecutive interpretation to chuchotage and décalage, take a peek behind what it really takes to be a professional interpreter. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-twCpijr_GeQ.html
I think the highlight was when Bong showed gratitude to Martin and Quentin Imean all the other actors,,,trolling with their speech and Bong showing some class, genuine
@@melaniewilliams1351 Well, I've watched the ceremony again and I think I was a little exaggerating afterall, using the term'trolling' but I thought Joaquin could have pointed out better with his speech and Renee Zellweger was a little bit nervous, seeing her being not able to straighten out the speech and keep repeating "and, ummm"
True tho. With the whole taking a chance to speak up during speeches. Political and what not. I read sumone comment about this n it keeps on repeating. Not hating but when u mention about director bong taking the same chance to give a speech about gratitude and all... Like yeh.
I think 1917 was the best with Parasite as a close second, but I'm weirdly happier with this outcome. Parasite had a kind of underdog narrative going in, whereas 1917 seemed like the obvious winner. Plus now way more people I know have actually heard of Parasite and I'll be able to talk to them about it, which I find exciting.
Bong Joon Ho understands English very well because you can tell when he listens intently to the reporters questions and he can speak English well too but he chooses to speak his language Korean and he uses the amazing Sharon Choi to translate for him and the rest of them, she has become a star during this award season for her perfect, subtle and nuance translating and she wants to be director so I hope people give her chance to be one and Parasite is the best and the movie deserves all the Oscars it got.
As a Chinese, I’m so proud of this accomplishment even though he’s a Korean. It’s a huge step forward for us Asians, and proves that we can all make it someday too!
Do u all remember Transformers: Age of Extinction? Hong Kong sences filled with Chinese government and sponsorship milk...and Pacific rim 2?? They were bad.. when Chinese movie involved with hollywood, that movie become worst
i am not korean. but i was very happy & teary eyed for parasite winning such major awards! felt like i won with them. very well deserved. congratulations!!!
Man this guy is a true genius and a true Cineast. When he said "That quote was from our great Martin Scorsese" and Scorsese got a standing ovation, that was one of the greatest Oscar moments ever and melted every movielovers heart!
This win is well deserved, and I just love how he did not make it about the politics, he just made a great movie that connected audiences from all walks of life regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status or sexual orientation....when you make art that resonates with the humanity of the audience it won't matter what language its delivered in! Congratulations to this incredible man the cast and everyone involved in making this masterpiece, cheers!
@@ihsantriapramanda1973 Sometimes it's good to use the platform to speech out some deep issues. Like Joaquin Phoenix did in the Golden Globes and in the BAFTA. But it had to be balanced - don't use every award for a political or social criticism.
@fluffywhitemanju hey mate, I'm sorry if I wasn't too specific in the first part of my comment where I brought up how he didn't make it all about the politics I was referring to his answers during this segment when he was being constantly asked questions pertaining to his race....I was actually impressed with his answers and how he handled himself.
9:38 - "I don't think it's necessary to separate all the borders and divisions, whether it's Asia, Europe, or the US. If we pursue the beauty of cinema and focus on the individual charms that each piece has, I think then we will naturally overcome all these barriers." Truly one of cinema's greatest ambassadors
The girl is quite famous now because of her works helping director with the translation. People already dig her background. Furthermore, the director was already mentioning in other several interview.
That interpreter is Sharon Choi. She isn’t a qualified translator, however she is a filmmaker. Idk how she started translating for Bong, but she has been translating for Bong all award season. Her position as a bilingual filmmaker really made her more qualified for translating stuff than an actual translator, and it shows.
I support Parasite I want Parasite I dream Parasite to win Best Picture But I never imagine this will happen!!? Because it is surreal, just not suppose to happen in Oscar. Even though Parasite is best movie, it is still foreign film with subtitles, 1917 has been took care of most the big glories. Best Director is done deal, should cemented!!? I saw many magazine Newspaper tv experts to give Parasite only one international and gave 1917 six plus include Best Picture, Best Director!!? That is harsh but can happen because this don’t happen in Hollywood!! I was about to accept any way Oscar presents!!? But 4 major awards out of 6 nominees?? It is a Winner!! Thank You Parasite for great memory and ride!!! 2020 Oscar will be always be there!! We are Parasite Nation!!!
Thank you Bong Joon Ho for focusing on the art bringing people together, not political grandstand, which was basically what the whole world is trying to push.
I was presented with the argument that it's not good that Parasite won Best Picture because then that would be ignoring the work that American filmmakers have worked hard for this year. But the truth is, other foreign movies have won Best Picture. They may not have been foreign language but they've been foreign to the U.S. like The King's Speech or Slumdog Millionaire or The Artist. If 1917 won, that would have been a British film winning Best Picture and not an American one anyways. I personally think Parasite was the right choice for Best Picture. It was an original movie about current issues that are still happening today between the classes.
people are just uncomfortable seeing people unlike them win, they think they 'hand out' awards to people to appease their audience not because they actually created great work that deserved it. my dad stuck his nose up at the "hair love" win. like it was a move that was made only to be politically correct and keep the black community less outraged. or....maybe it was the grandstanding short this year? geesh. I loved kitbull as well, but a story about a little girl frustrated with her 4c hair and daddy having to fill the shoes of mom and the importance of hair for female black women and woman battling illnesses that makes them lose that identifier is an important message. its hard because all the films were good but it's more of the moral question: Are dog fights and animal abuse more important than young black girls accepting their hair? answer: they are all important and it was a subjective and personal taste decision based on the voting of the academy. audiences get all opinionated when a film directed by an AMERICAN black person or predominately black casted film wins the best film or director...but they are American and people still act all racist.
Whoever presented that argument fails to see how the oscars are run and who wins. The oscars has the history of 'bribery' and bias that it already has put a disadvantage for the american filmaker (or actors, actresses, animations, designs teams, etc.). Those who deserve the award don't get rewarded the trophy. This is arare moment where the best film was given appropriately. I believe Parasite was really deserving of this award because tje movie connected to many countries va capitalism; a topic (that I'm aware of) not really tackled by many american filmakers.
YES!!!! Disney's "live action" remakes and blockbuster superhero movies made me feel like Hollywood was entering a dark period of zero risk-taking. Korean cinema might be our saving grace the way that French cinema influenced a second golden age in Hollywood in the late 70s after the demise of the old studio system.
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 Oh I just learned about the fact of French cinema from you right now. But yes, it's true. I wanted the old Hollywood cinema style come back again. Not only putting on some computer tricks or whatsoever. That's where my turning point to Korean or British cinema and TV series, well sometimes I watch French.
The Lady who didn't win any awards nor did she wanted to be on the Spotlight but loved what she did best from start till finished but has won many hearts of the world that's Sharon choi...
I love south koreans! All of them! There is an old connection between South Korea & Ethiopia! Historical one! Proud of you Guy's . Very, very, very happy.... for them. And USA'S, OSCARS, I'm really proud of you on how you addressed diversity not only in US A bit globally! Don't listen to those who criticize!
The world as a whole is now finally seeing what the appeal is for kdramas and other foreign films or dramas...I personally have look outside of the US for a "new story". Nowadays in America there is no longer a love for the story or message or to entertain. It's now all about politics. Congratulations to Bong Joon Ho and the cast and staff of Parasite!
It must be a tough job to be a translator. She did amazing! I actually didnt see the movie but all i hear its nice things, how complex it is and how he speaks about social disparity. She( the translator)at my point of view actually tried to be unnoticed but it was impossible!
Im happy for this film & its crew....just one observation: He clearly understands & speaks English...I also have heard him speak English in other interviews ....why isn’t he making the effort? Has anyone else heard him ?
what a humble man! Yes it will come to a day that foreign film doesn't really matter, and foreign film winning this wont be an issue hopefully. well said.
