This was so helpful! Have killed two lovely little cypresses before I even got to work on them due to improper care. The cutting between branches lesson was great, although need more guidance as two which branches to select. Should the be selected as to thickest and most prominent and then remove the smaller ones. Seems obvious but I could not see what you were cutting as trees is so small. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for myself and the thousands of others you have helped, as well as all of the trees whose lives you have saved.🙋‍♀️

Great lesson. I heard it's difficult to get back-budding on Hinoki, and I wondered of there is anything one can do besides something rather complicated, such as grafting maybe, otherwise I'd worry about long branches with no foliage besides at the tip.

@pansepot1490
@pansepot1490 3 года назад
Wiring to the pot is done to avoid the tree falling off the pot in case the pot topples over by accident. It’s a safety measure and not necessary if the bonsai pots are not exposed to pets, children, strong wind and similar.

I bought a Cupressus Macrocarpa recently, to make a Bonsai. I need to prune, style and repot it. I heard a lot of conflicting sources regarding the use or necessity of sealing wounds on trees that you prune. The tree is nursery stock and it is a reasonably tall tree. I plan on putting it in an aerated growing pot first, so that it can establish itself in the habitat away from the Nursery. But the major styling and cutting that I need to do seems like it might do more harm than good if I don't ask for help first. As someone who does not have access to a Bonsai sensei to learn how, other than your videos, I'd like to know what you would advise me to do please? Thank you for your valuable advice and amazing videos, they were a great motivation for me to start into Bonsai making.

Depends what kind of insulation you use. I've seen some folk use woodchips that they have gotten for free from a local arborer. It may not be traditional, but it serves the same purpose. It's all basically a mulch. You can use compost as a mulch anyway, that will work (In our Uk climate at least, mulch varies a lot by climate). Of course, I'm talking on the gardening side here rather then the bonsai side.

Is this the same species as the "Sekka" Hinoki? I have tried the Hinoki ( Sekka )4 times so far. All have died. I am not really sure why. Too much heat? Too much water? 4 Times. I am always tempted to try them again as they are gorgeous little trees, but until I understand them better, I am very scared to try again. I really tried different things each time trying to figure out why they start dying off.
