My mom asked if i wanted to see a movie as we drove past a move theater. I just read what was playing and saw a movie with Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze Too Wong Foo. I thought it would be like a martial arts type movie. Turns out it was a drag queen movie and my mom thought i was trying to come out or something.
One of the rare times in a film where flubbing a line actually works in the scene's favor. You could easily look at this and see that Bill is so flustered and upset with the situation that he can't get the words out right.
I think the second part of your comment is correct. Perhaps it was the choice of the actor that the character miss-speak; or (better yet), Macy was so into the character of Little Bill that the character's THOUGHT was 'flubbed' when he spoke. That's very different that flubbing a line. It gives great insight to Bill's feelings -- and Macy's emotional investment in the character. He nailed Little Bill's heart.
@@evanleehome2178 Yeah, it's confirmed that Macy flubbed it and kept flubbing it but PTA liked it so he kept it in. It's 'cock in her ass' in the screenplay.
I worked with Macy for a couple days a few years ago and I asked him directly. He confirmed it was a flub but that PTA liked it and decided to keep it in.
Nice crisp dialogue between the men - "Interrupting one another, speaking OVER each other, cutting one another off - that's pure dialogue - how it really happens."
That guy was played by Ricky Jay, a wonderful actor, but also one of the greatest slight-of-hand magicians in the world up until the day he passed away.
@@marcochimio He is my favorite CIA agent. He was a regular guest on the Unit for a season. He teaches 2 of them to palm cards and you can see the ease as which he does slight of hand.
This scene deserved an award! To act this out using the lines with a straight face and no flinching was phenomenal. The seriousness of both actors was brilliant... They played this scene like it may be their last roll in movies...
@@FastEddie86 You really won't, Shawshank redemption, Fight Club, Seven, Unforgiven, Magnolia, Terminator 2, Goodfellas (tho i consider him more to be a 80's movie) Casino, Fargo, Matrix. There was probably more.
In the movie is she a porn star too ? Cus I seen the scene where she was fucking some dude in the back room and he ends it , or was she just a cheating whore ?
"Yah, yah I know... anyway listen." LMFAO that part always kills me. Guy couldn't care less. I've done the same at work honestly. "Hey how's it going?" *hear a rough patch* "Oh man, that's too bad... hey real quick..."
I love how when Little Bill storms off in frustration, Kurt looks over his shoulder at what was antagonising Bill, shrugs his shoulders and goes over to have a look 😂
Well, I mean if a man marries a porn star and she isn't faithful at a 1970s California cocaine party where others in the porn industry attend, why should anyone care?
You will get this scene all the more if you’ve ever worked in media. People are actually like this dude who cares more about a shoot than the suffering of a colleague right in front of him. It’s a soul killing industry.
It’s not about media. It’s about business. Same anywhere in the corporate world. People in media think they operate on some special higher order. A colleague not giving a shot about your problems and just worrying about work is universal. Get out of the bubble!
The “flubbed” line and when the distributor man says “I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass…” and the colonel laughs in the background. Are two of my favorites in this film. (And nearly every line John c Riley delivers.)
Yeah, I thought I was the only person who heard that back-assward line. Every time I discussed the film with anyone, they'd claim they didn't hear what I knew I'd heard. Until today; thank you!
William H. Macy is one of the most brilliant Actors of our time. He is great in everything.. But he plays "downtrodden" and "disrespected" characters the best.
I remember when i caught this 😂 great stuff !! Truly a classic 1of walbergs best movies and he said he didnt like it lol !! Brought burt reynolds back to !!
Fun fact! The filming location of Jack's home is in the unglamorous West Covina, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, on a main road, and far from its fictitious location in the San Fernando Valley.
I went to South Hills High School, just down the road from the filming location. In all fairness, the neighborhood is pretty nice, with lots of custom homes dating from the 50's and 60's. I recently attended my 40th highschool reunion and got to drive around the neighborhood again. The houses were great! Definitely comparable to the best parts of the San Fernando Valley, where Jack Horner's house is located in the film, and considered to have been the porn production capital of the world in the 70's/80's.
“Yeah yeah I know….we’ll anyway…”. The whole movie displays how this lifestyle would be loaded with people so primal that they are not capable of being friends or caring. There’s no ability to see beyond their own immediate desires and impulses. Big homes, nice cars….no real happiness. Just self indulgence.
When I first saw this movie, I predicted that little Bill was the character that was going to snap and do something drastic. The scene at the New Year’s party confirmed it. Except he was a lot calmer than I thought he would be.
This was the most bizarre movie I watched, especially for the time. “Hey Mark, as your agent I’m telling you, if you don’t take this role, Christian Bale is going to snatch it up!”
I like that even in the header you nailed the fact that the actor here said this line backwards. I’ve seen it 100 times and wondered every single time how this take made it to Final Cut with such an obvious mistake in dialogue lol
William H Macy is so good an actor. Trying to talk about film while his wife is getting laid with spectators and how gradual his frustration is growing. The whole cast of this movie were excellent
He was supposedly so distraught that he twisted his words! The director either kept it or it was on purpose or a mixture of both! Either way it’s cool! I thought so!
Read somewhere that he did 5 takes or so, and flubbed it during at least 3 of them...but PTA and Macy quickly realized that the flubbed version worked much better, due to Little Bill being THAT exasperated by the whole situation. One of those happy accidents.
Yeah, Ricky Jay was a fantastic magician, I happened to stumble across his magic work since I had seen him in this and a few other films including Magnolia and The Prestige and I was absolutely astounded how brilliant he was since I just assumed he was some random character actor who showed up in some notable films. He was in 007 Tomorrow Never Dies as a henchman as well and there’s deleted scenes of his character throwing playing cards and using them as weapons which they didn’t carry over sadly.
Paul Anderson confirmed it was not the line but he loved how flustered and upset William Macy played the character and misstated the line so they left it in. Also fun fact, this is one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies. Macy acted so well in this scene, I think Ricky Jay didn't break character because he was convinced Macy was pissed off and on the edge (you generally wont correct someone or laugh when they're about to lose it lol).
He didn't flub the line. That's how they talked back then. They called the woman's private area the C-word, too... The "ass" was the dude on top of her.
I'm really glad they that part, it goes to show how Bill was lost for words in the situation. It was also amazing how they kept a straight face or they would have had to take it out.
This is a truly fantastic scene in a great motion picture. A hilarious, insensitive, comical, moment that only a pro like Macy could pull off. Maybe a Cranston too.
Watched this film the other night for the first time in 20 odd years. It was like watching for the first time again. Absolutely brilliant. So many amazing scenes with top quality actors. I actually forgot that the great Philip Seymour Hoffman was in it. William H Macy and John C Reilly stole most scenes they were in..... and Burt Reynolds on top of his game. PTA's direction was flawless for me. Superb movie.
