I’m glad you enjoyed Empire of Silence! I didn’t love everything about Tau Zero but thought the ending was mind blowing. And 11/22/63 is on my TBR!

Thanks for checking out the video, Johnathan! I agree Tau Zero wasn’t perfect, but it was my favorite from the Hard SF reads this year. I think you’ll enjoy 11/22/63, with the caveat that the only science-fiction part is the time travel aspect. And since we’re traveling to the past, we get a completely different read than for example Wells’s Time Machine.

Couldn’t agree more about 11/22/63. I think it is one of Stephen King’s best books. For favourite hard SF, in my books read this year, I would rate Seveneves by Neal Stephenson higher than Tau Zero. Coincidentally, both reviews are coming up on my channel in the next two weeks.

🙌 I haven’t read Seveneves yet, but I’m looking forward to it and to your review.

Love the award format, but where is the tippy category? Not enough PKD?, haha. 11/22/63 is one of my favorite SK books and I've read 2/3rds of his works. My recent re-read of Tau Zero was a blast, great book. Cheers Bart, 2024 will be great.

I like that! Trippy category would have definitely been stacked this year. Between Ubik, Annihilation, Lathe of Heaven, Maze of Death, Invincible, and few others. Uff! 😂 Cheers to 2024!

Interesting list! I'd be curious to see how you get on with Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series. I'm thinking of doing something similar, along the lines of '2023 reading superlatives'. Currently reading Children of Time, my first Tchaikovsky book and a possible contender for my favourite read of the year.

I love Children of Time! I’m definitely going to read the Wayfarers Series next year; definitely the first book anyway.

Great video! Here are some I thought of while watching: My most fun read was probably Starter Villain which I do have to give you credit for getting me to read. Biggest Disappointment has got to be Impact Winter Season 2 New Favorite Series probably Stormlight Favorite New Release was The Never Ending End of the World

Thanks for checking it out! Stormlight is head to head with Suneater, I probably should’ve chosen it, but I went with Suneater only because I’m concentrating on SF… 😂 I remember you talking about the Never ending end of the World. I definitely wanna read it. Just gotta find the book.

stoner was great. butcher's crossing is really cool too, if you can handle a western.

I understand all too well not being able to read a book because you don't like the author's voice. In one book I read the author was using too much unfriendly language which should have been a character's chain of thought NOT the narrator's. To end on a positive note: I really need to get '11/22/63' next year.

Robert Heinlein has done that in several books. He uses one of the characters to insert himself and his politics into the book, even though the story does not call for it at all. I think you like 11/22/63 a lot !
