Thank you so much! Glad you found this video interesting :D Looking at different book covers became more interesting to me after I started to think about them from the publishing side XD
Such an informative and interesting video.I enjoyed the discussion about various covers , the story and the culture that influences the different choices...
Such a neat discussion! It's really interesting to see how covers are treated in different countries. I think the way genres differ is also really interesting - it's sometimes very obvious if something that is mixed genre is being marketed for one genre over the other because genres tend to have such distinct styles.
XD Glad you liked this video Shannon! And yes, I feel it's so interesting to see same books marketed as different genres in different countries, and also how some genres in one country don't exist in other countries, fascinating.
The Turkish cover of To Live gives me goosebumps. I agree that that the different strokes suggest different stories and lives, (probably of different classes?), and they also look like redaction / censoring, some kind of silencing, which crops up in the book too. I enjoyed this video so much. You explained very well how the artistic elements work on book covers! I'm definitely interested in this content!
Totally agree with the silencing implication in the Turkish cover of To Live, it’s such a brilliant cover design! I love when translated books took time to design their own version of covers, it really shows how different cultures interpret books and it’s fascinating! I’m glad you liked this video 😆
Another great video! So many book covers! lol 🤣The Chinese title for Little Fires Everywhere is fire! I love it! 小小小小的火‘ is so brilliant. The French cover is pretty typical of French books. Adult fiction doesn't get much cover design which I think helps bring the prices so low on French books as you're not paying for cover design. I feel cover design is featured more on kids books and nonfiction. Brandon Sanderson Chinese cover made me laugh. How many times have I seen mismatched covers like this where I can obviously see what the marketing team is doing but I just can't get on board with it. I love the variety in Japanese book covers and it's something I've also wanted to do a video about. Now that I'm a pro with adding book covers to videos I might finally get to it in 2024.
interesting to learn about French book covers! The cover of The Way of Kings is really hilarious in Chinese hahaha. Look forward to your video about book covers if you make it!
Also I’ve never mentioned this in the comment section on your channel, but thanks to you I learnt about “房思琪的初恋乐园” and I recommended it to the Polish publisher Yumeka and now we have this book available in Polish 🫶💔
Ohh!!! Thank you so much for doing that/ telling me about it! This literally made my day!! 房思琪的初恋乐园 is such a beautiful but heartbreaking book, I loved it so much. So glad it's now available in Polish and more people can read it. I saw on Goodreads it's expected to be published in English in June 11, 2024 too! I am so happy!
