This was a beautiful video, thank you for its message. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I want to share my testimony of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the power of the Holy Ghost it has been revealed to me undeniably that Joseph Smith was a prophet, the First Vision happened, The Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually”. It would be easier for me to deny the existence of the sun than to deny my knowing these things. In love, your brother in the cause of Jesus Christ, Roger Beutel

Can someone tell me what the Mormon justification is for; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-10‬ I’m a bible believing follower of Jesus, and to be honest Ive not done much research into Mormonism but from what I’ve seen it is very different to the Jesus in scripture. Paul warns us about false teachers a lot in the New Testament. I’m just interested in understanding how a Mormon can live according to the Bible, the word of God, and the Book of Mormon, the word of Joseph Smith. Scriptures like that in Ephesians 2 is very different from Mormon theology

Aloha! :) I love your questions and concern and your faith in Christ. Through study and prayer, you will find that the doctrine the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints supports your beliefs. We'll build on what you already know. Having said that, we believe that without the Savior Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice and his loving grace that He provides to every person who has ever lived and will live, we cannot return and live with God, our Eternal Father. No matter our efforts, it is the Savior's grace that saves us. Christ saves us from physical death (through His resurrection) and spiritual death (through His atoning sacrifice). The resurrection is a gift to all mankind. It's through the grace of Christ that we will all live again. "Paul testified, 'As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive' (1 Corinthians 15:22). In this sense, everyone is saved, regardless of choices made during this life. This is a free gift from the Savior to all human beings." Sin, which we will all do (except for children) keeps us from God's presence since no unclean thing can dwell with God. "To be cleansed from sin through the Savior’s Atonement, an individual must exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (see Acts 2:37-38)." And, lastly, which touches on your question of grace, 'We believe that we are saved by grace after all we can do' (see 2 Ne. 25:23). We don’t earn salvation. Heavenly Father and the Savior will bless us with eternal life, through Their grace, if we do our part." Having said that, we are also commanded to love God and love our neighbor (the two great commandments)...both requiring our heart, might, mind, and strength. That's a lot--I apologize. If you want to learn more, I encourage you to contact the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I love these verses in Ephesians and know them to be true. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I know that no matter how good I am, no matter how many good works I achieve, it is impossible for me to receive eternal life without the grace of our Savior Jesus Christ. The good works that God wants me to do help me become more like He is, compassionate, loving, determined, focused, and joyful. I rely on grace 100% and am eternally grateful for this wonderful gift.
@williambirt8557
@williambirt8557 5 лет назад
mcchylite sounds awesome! But how can you justify the passage from Nephi of being saved “after all you can do” (which suggests works are involved in salvation) if you’re totally relying on his grace?
@mcchylite
@mcchylite 5 лет назад
@@williambirt8557 Thank you for such an important question. Any loving Father wants his children to act on truth, to do what is right, and make a valiant effort to become what they were created to become. No perfect father would do everything and provide everything for his children, depriving them of growth and happiness through work and sometimes real struggle. The passage in 2 Nephi 25:23 is often misunderstood. This quote from the book "Believing Christ" by Stephen E. Robinson explains it really well. "I understand the preposition 'after' in 2 Nephi 25:23 to be a preposition of separation rather than a preposition of time. It denotes logical separateness rather than temporal sequence. We are saved by grace 'apart from all we can do,' or 'all we can do notwithstanding,' or even 'regardless of all we can do.' Another acceptable paraphrase of the sense of the verse might read, 'We are still saved by grace, after all is said and done.'" I hope that helps understand how we view the all-important doctrine of grace.

I completely agree! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and our only way to heaven. What may surprise you is that I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and that is what we ALL believe! I am grateful that He loves me enough to rescue me from sin, if I will follow Him with all my heart. I am grateful that He suffered, bled and died for me and for you--for all of us. I testify that He walked the path that we might know the way and He will help us along that path as we come humbly to Him. He also introduced us to covenants (promises between God and man) that help us draw upon God's power and receive specific blessings. He memorialized those covenants through ordinances such as baptism and the sacrament of the last supper (communion--partaking of broken bread and the cup each week to help us remember Him and our promises). Remembering Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us through this sacrament (communion) is at the CENTER of our worship and is the most important thing we do every Sunday. Jesus organized His church while He lived on the earth and gave authority to perform these ordinances and to teach His gospel. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints IS His church and is the kingdom of God on the earth with authority to administer these ordinances today and provides a place to gather and fellowship and serve and discuss His teachings to help us follow Him. I invite you to come to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worship with us where you will feel the warmth of His Spirit and the love and fellowship that He taught.

The Book of Mormon is not a NT rewrite. Instead, the Book of Mormon is a companion witness to the Bible of Jesus Christ and His exemplary life, marvelous and eternal truths He taught, His atoning sacrifice, and His death and resurrection. From its initial printing, the Book of Mormon has never claimed to replace or rewrite the Bible. I know it to be true and grateful for those ancient prophets who wrote their history and recorded their witness of the Savior Jesus Christ and His visit to the ancient peoples of the Americas. I challenge you to actually read / pray / and ponder about the Book of Mormon and ask God if it's true. One can only know that answer from God, and not from man alone. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lord's restored church here upon the earth. As such we are not creedal Christians. This means that shortly after the death of the Apostles and due to intense persecution, outside philosophies and doctrines of converts leaking into the church, lack of revelation and priesthood authority in the church, and many other things, that the church Christ originally set up fell into general and widespread apostasy. During this time Christians argued and debated about doctrine, the nature of God, the interpretation of scripture, the performance of gospel ordinances and many other things. Councils of men and resultant creeds tried to define these things, and they are what many Christians beliefs about the nature of God are based off of. We believe that the church was restored with the proper authority, organization, and revelation that clarified and set a solid groundwork for doctrinal matters. More knowledge was given to man through Joseph Smith being visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ than anything written in medieval creeds. We believe God still talks to us, that He still calls prophets and apostles in our day and that His church was restored to bring further faith in Christ and His gospel in these last days, preparatory to His second coming. I know for myself that these things are true, and you can know as well. And I love it! It truly fills my life with joy, meaning and purpose and draws me closer to Jesus Christ. Remember what Christ told Peter, "Blessed art thou ....., because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father which is in Heaven."
@karlshaner2453
@karlshaner2453 5 лет назад
Along with Chris I would add my testimony that the restored gospel is true. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. Read it for yourself and ask God. Your point to other Christians believing in a different Lord. Joseph once said when asked what the difference was between other Christian sects and that of his faith? His answer was very profound and might offend some but I see his point all the time today. He said, " We believe the Bible and they clearly do not!" Let me share one very clear example. (Bible)Christ testified that he and his Father qualified as two men under Jewish law of testimony. Yet most the modern Christian world refuse to believe that. Another case (Bible)Jesus said, "Other sheep I have that are not of this fold..." Most of the Christian world make assumptions as to his meaning. We have a record with Christ declaring the truth of his words to those other sheep. I for one put my trust in the words of the Lord. I hope you take the time to read the book and find out for yourself my friend.

Actually, I think we believe some DIFFERENT things about the SAME Christ. That is also the case with the various denominations of non-LDS christians. That said, we have more in common than different. We both believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He is Jehovah and the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, that He paid the price for sin through His atoning sacrifice and that He died and was resurrected and ascended into heaven and will yet come again to the earth. We both believe that we will be resurrected because He overcame death and many, many other truths about His life. Are not those the foundational principles that all christians must believe to be saved? Finally, Jesus taught, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have LOVE one to another." THAT is how Jesus himself defined His followers. The ways in which we differ often have to do with additional things we believe that other Christians may not believe. For example, we believe that after his death, resurrection and ascension into heaven, the resurrected Lord appeared to people in other lands--which only strengthens the case that He did, in fact, rise from the dead as there are now other witnesses in addition to those of the Bible. The Book of Mormon contains a record of His appearance among a group of people upon the American continent and His healing of their sick and His teachings to them. One by one, they felt the marks in His hands and feet and side and bore witness that He was the resurrected Son of God who had been prophesied by ancient prophets on the American continent. If other Christians choose not to believe this and we choose to believe it, it really has no bearing on being saved through Christ. We believe that Jesus' atonement occurred not only on the cross, but also in the garden of Gethsemane, where he fell upon His face in agony because of the weight of our sins which he bore there (and on the cross) and caused Him to sweat, as it were, great drops of blood and where the pain was so great that an angel came to comfort Him. We believe that He was not led up of the Spirit into the wilderness "to be tempted of the devil", but rather the Spirit led Him into the wilderness "to be with God" and as He was communing with God, His Father, the devil came to tempt him. These are examples of additional beliefs that do not make Him a "different Jesus", but are simply things we believe ABOUT Jesus that are different. They do not take away from His life, teachings and sacrifice. In fact, you might agree that they rather add positive understandings that magnify the greatness of God.

@wa1den
@wa1den 5 лет назад
Taking a scripture such as Galatians 1:6-9 out of context can be used to discredit all kinds of things. It's good to bear in mind that we are far removed from Paul's time, and his words were specifically directed at those he and the original apostles had preached to. To try to insinuate that the beliefs promulgated by the various sects of our day are identical to what Paul and the ancient apostles taught, and to therefore invoke Paul's words against anything else different to what one's particular group may have dogmatized shows a closed-mindedness and lack of reasoning or thought process. Things have been altered a lot since those times, which is testified to by the fact that we have so many different "christian" faiths now, which can't agree on large parts of the doctrine of Christ. Additionally, there were doctrines and practices taught by the earliest christians that are no longer accepted and practiced in our current times, as any well-read student of early texts and other contemporary writings of the day will clarify for you. People of our times get so accustomed to looking at things from a modern perspective that they forget that people of ancient times didn't see things as we see them, didn't interpret things as we interpret them, and had a quite different outlook on the world and on reality compared to the perceptions of people of our day. And as for your quote from Deuteronomy, a bit of careful study will confirm for you that the prophet of the restoration, Joseph Smith, spoke many things in the name of the Lord which have been fulfilled. Being that the scripture declares that if what the prophet says doesn't come to pass, he is not to be taken seriously (paraphrasing), what then can we assume when the things the prophet speaks DO in fact come to pass? I think the answer should be pretty obvious.

...additionally, if you have concluded that the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants (NOT doctrines and convenient), and Pearl of Great Price contradict the Bible, then you have misinterpreted things in the Bible (don't take it too hard... a lot of people misinterpret the Bible, you're not the first nor the only one to make that mistake).

@@wa1den hi and yes the bible warns us about false prophets thats why i quoted stuff and also we know a prophet by his revelations not by praying about it thats why i quoted Deut and Luke 16:16 says john was the last Apostle prophet.

@@stevenmoffitt9820 Translation of your question: Rather than address the obvious weirdness concerning Mormonism, insist that the concerned/leery individual cite specific words/passages in various Mormon texts, then argue that said person hasn't "read them correctly with a seeking spirit". I know the simple-minded tactics that cultists employ, so either give it a rest or go and look elsewhere for ideas.

@@rene2582 I totally understand your point of view, my man. Have you e ever searched what the people on the governing body did before starting to work for the church? I was reading about the prophet and he is a very renowned surgeon that was a pioneer and one of the first Doctors to perform open-heart surgery. The president of some country in Asia asked him personally to go there to perform surgery on him. They already were millionaires before stoping their careers and start their ministry. No trying to discredit you or anything, but that's facts ya know?
