Such a wonderful video about what might be my very favorite book. Tolstoy's masterpiece is so great because everyone can take something different from it, and your insight is profound. I love your discussion of Dolly. I hadn't thought about her character as such an important part of the novel's message, but it makes sense when you put it that way. The "bloodless revolution" and mending the machine really interest me. Tolstoy is really tapping into some fascinating forces at play in his contemporary Russia. One can only wonder what would happen if we had had a Levin instead of a Lenin... Much to think about. Great video as always. I hope to see you tackle Little Women sometime!
Thank you, Thomas! Obviously I barely scratched the surface of this wonderful novel. There is so much more I could’ve talked about (like how Vronsky is also a nuanced character, and how Tolstoy’s own biography and the political/social climate of his day impacted the book). And that’s what makes it so amazing! There’s no filler or fluff-every chapter is a goldmine. There will always be more to discover and discuss when it comes to Anna Karenina. That’s why I love it. I’m nearing the end of my latest re-read of Little Women and once I’m finished I’ll definitely be making a video about it :)
