what Rick said on twitter about Sam and her view on the Norse gods, are something like. "Sam thinks of the Norse gods like really annoying aunts and uncles. she doesn't view them as true gods."
I absolutely loved this book! It was so hard to set it down, even during class at school. Hearthstone is definetly my favorite character. I love that part near the end when he says that they are all empty cups and that they are one big family....it was so cute!
I'm pretty sure Hearth and Blitz are gonna be in the books. It ended like the Lightning Thief, the group is all splitting apart to do their separate things but by the next book they'll be back.
Okay so I think that Magnus is going to end up with Reyna from heroes of Olympus. Remember with that goddess ( don't remember her name ) told Reyna she would never be with another Demi God. Magnus is dead, undead, Zombie, whatever he is. And maybe that makes him eligible to be with Reyna. I don't know. But it would be so cute if that was the case!!
It took me also a WHILE to get into this book but around half way i was completely in LOVE with it OMG i love it so much. The chapter titles are hilarious and i love all the characters.
I'm so excited that it's formatted in the same way as the PJO books, I missed those chapter titles!! I agree, Rick Riordan's writing is totally formulaic...but it just works so well. I'm so excited to pick it up! I love your reviews by the way :)
Ik Magnus and Percy are kinda similar, but there are quotes Magnus says that i really can't picture Percy saying, and vice versa. I honestly think they're pretty different
Spoilers just in case ;) I was hoping Magnus love interest would be Gunilla because there were some hints like in the Scene as Magnus was resurrect in his room, opend the door and her reacton as she looked at him ... that was cute
SPOILER ALERT But her soul went somewhere in the nine worlds, right?! He might encounter her eventually, I don't know... ( I'm pretty sure she was alive like Sam)
+Play Time Spoiler I feel like Gunilla was too important of a role to die so quickly. She promised to go after Magnus if he went against her; she would become a powerful enemy. It's a loose plot hole. I think she becomes a warrior in Valhallah like Magnus did. Also, she's a daughter of Thor, so it's very likely if she helps Magnus find Thor's Hammer and kindle some feelings along the way.
Those Rick Riordan books make me want to go straight to wikipedia to learn everything about the mythology, and I always end up learning so much about history and stuff.
I recommend watching Dael Kingmill's Monarch's Factory videos on RU-vid if you want to learn more about Norse mythology in a fun way - especially that part when Thor mentions Loki dressing him in a wedding dress. I really liked this book, even though it was really similar to PJO in character archetypes and plot structure (maybe too similar). Definitely ship Blitzstone. I was disappointed with the Gods though, except for Frey and Loki, because they seem just like the Greek one. Loved Sam, Gunilla, and Jack, and Annabeth's cameo. I think it would be interesting if Magnus doesn't have a love interest.
I felt the exact same way! (yes, I read magnus chase in july. im SO late) Like it took me a while to move with the story, but once I was flowing with the plot, there was no way around it. I spent all day yesterday reading it. I really hope blitz and hearth r in the next book 2!
honestly I felt the same way it took me a while to pick up the book I actually started reading it like a week before finals week and I just finished it today actually and I don't know I just felt like it was a little bit hard for me to start off because it did remind me of Percy and it kind of just took me awhile to get used to it as Magnus and not as percy and I'm glad that he didn't throw in Annabeth with Magnus when he introduces her and when they met again because I feel like if they were together in this journey you wouldn't have gotten a chance to know Magnus it would have been like Annabeth Chase and her cousin and not magnus chase. you really got to know Magnus for Magnus and not as the famous Annabeth ' s cousin. I CRIED too and I was surprised this book just took turns without me expecting it. I'm really looking forward to the next book and I hope more people read this series . I know a lot of people didn't want to read it because they didn't think it would be a good book compared to his other books i know a lot of people thought that the Kane Chronicles weren't as good as the Percy Jackson series but I kind of agree with that but I really feel like Magnus Chase is going to be a great trilogy. Also thought Otis was really funny. I've never really been a big fan of the gods but I feel like this book made me dislike them even more like I can't really explain it without this thing even longer than it already is but I don't know this book really made me feel like I really don't like these people except Freya she was chill. ok maybe it thor I think that's probably the reason why I didn't I don't know I'm so sorry all my comments on your videos are always so long but like always I loved your honesty and thoughts.
okay one last thing I know a lot of people think that Magnus and Sam are going to be a thing but honestly I think otherwise I really feel like if there is going to be a love interest with Magnus it will be later on a series with someone else but I just feel like their relationship is going to be just brother and sister
im kind of hoping that magnus doesn't have a love interest, i mean literally every character rick put out has a love interest (except Reyna, also hoping she doesn't have one) idk... im just not THAT interested tbh
THEORY FOR HoT: SPOILER WARNING!! In the epilogue, Loki seems to give Randolph a hammer pendant, which we can assume is Thor's "not officially lost" Janet. As far as we can tell, Randolph is going to be an antagonist in HoT. Based on Rick Riordan's tweet, saying that he purposefully excluded a romantic subplot, it sounds like there will be a romantic subplot for Magnus in one of the upcoming books in this series. When he does find a love interest, there will be done sort of feud between Jack/Sumarbrander. Why? That would be due to his previous owner, Frey, giving the sword away to marry a giantess. The fear of being tossed away again would cause him some behavioral changes - maybe at which point he starts butting into Magnus's personal life. As far as the main plot, I would think that the entire book would be about retrieving Thor's hammer from Randolph (duh) while other giants try to get their hands on them as well. With that, the secret about the hammer being lost is no longer a secret. Without his hammer, Thor is vulnerable and has a bigger target on his back. Because of this, Odin sends Samirah Al-Abbas on one of his dangerous missions to help protect Thor and retrieve the hammer. All with the help of Magnus, Blitzen, Jack, Hearthstone, and Annabeth. Right now, we may be a bit unsure on Annabeth's role except that she will play a part in the mission. What I think will happen: the protection of Thor will be seen through by either Greek demigods or gods. Annabeth will have to convince them to do so. I believe Magnus will meet at least one other Greek or Roman character besides Annabeth. As for Egyptians, I see no sign of them appearing in this book. Most likely, all the series will meet in one series, containing Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse. Just not this series. They will fight more giants. This is just my personal theory and it is open to criticism. If you would like to correct any details I stated or think I am missing certain important information, by all means, feel free to reply to this comment. For all I know, I could be completely and utterly wrong and the theory could very possibly be debunked when HoT comes out in fall. Any questions are welcome.
I read this book last month and I absolutely loved it. I did see the parallels between this book and PJO, but I never felt that the book was trying too hard to be like PJO - it stood apart as its own individual story (if that makes sense :P). The Norse mythology aspect was probably my favourite part - the gods seem so much nicer in this series than in PJO/HoO (with the exception of Loki, of course).
I think the Norse to send the north have to Camp Half-Blood is Hotel Valhalla and I guess you could say Camp Jupiter would be the other one in freya's room. But it is worth noting that's not just for half-bloods as both of those places are just for the honored dead because if I remember correctly one of the girls that was like murdered and like had her story shown the same night as a Magnus did she was not a Half-Blood flight they still knew she was going to kick all of the ass. Also I don't think half-born is a demigod
spoilers i guess! your review was pretty great! yeah, i really do hope blitzen and hearthstone turn out to be a thing because they are just too cute, like how blitz made a tanning bed for hearth so he wouldn't die, and how hearth sacrificed his strength in the final battle to heal blitz. i just... (muffled screaming) also, i dont want magnus to end up with anyone bc it would be more special if he just ended up with his friends. i dont know, just a thought of mine hehe thanks for the video!!
I hope all of his series intertwine, like not only PJO and Kane Chronicles but all of them! in the future! that would be amazing and maybe then people would also start talking about Kane Chronicles like they deserve ;-; cuz I love them so much! still this book... every time he gets more and more amazing... I liked it quite a bit more than PJO, but I can't say it yet cuz two books are still to be released
Voice do you mean the narration style or like the voice actor because I honestly kind of agree with you if it's the voice actor after the first book I don't think he does that good of a job I mean he's okay but like the other two since each book has its own narrator do better jobs in my opinion especially for the third one but if you mean narration I mean maybe I don't know I really like Magnus as a narrator he might be my favorite although I'm being honest ad from The Kane Chronicles is probably my favorite. Also my favorite character in The Magnus Chase series doesn't show up yet that would be a Alex but if I pick one from this book specifically if we're judging by the whole series but sticking with characters that are in this book Mallory if you're judging by Justice book Magnus or Sam
I think that Rick tweeted that Magnus will have a love interest and she's gonna be introduced in the second book (also, she's hispanic, yaay diversity!) And yees! I totally shipped Blitz and Hearth as well. I think at first I saw them as Brotp but towards the end it became more of a romantic ship, somehow? Ok, so the end felt so final with everybody getting to fulfil their dreams (Blitz and Hearth and so on) and that's why I think that the second book will be about a quest that Sam got from Odin. Maybe she has to find Thor's hammer and then she asks the others to come along and that's how they reunite. Maybe? Idk?
Hi! Your review was awesome! I was just wondering, 'cause I've just started a book reviewing channel myself, about what camera you use? I'm currently filming on my iPod at the moment but I would like to change that asap! :D xx
Is it necessary to read Rick Riordan's other series to read Magnus Chase? I just can't get into the Percy Jackson series at all but really want to start Magnus Chase.
planning to read this soon! though the whole thing with sam being simultaneously a muslim and being involved with the norse gods kinda rubs me the wrong way, being a muslim myself. rick explained on twitter that sam acknowledges "there's only one true god whom created jinns and angels, and these crazy norse dudes" (paraphrased, but these are his own words). so technically in her eyes they are... still gods, just not "true gods" ?? i believe this is not actually unacceptable and is a major sin in islam. and it just got me thinking about how there can be unsuitable places for diverse characters. i applaud rick for trying but he should have done a more thorough research before placing a muslim character in this situation idk ://///
I kinda get what you mean but I think that in that world these gods aren't actually Gods Gods with the capital G .like the one who created the universe ... I'm not sure how to explain it... But they are like just "gods" in the name. Like spirits who has some crazy super powers who happens to call them selves "gods" Because there's only one God.
