The cost of drilling a well makes it hard to justify it. If there is a lot of ranching or orchards in the vicinity a lot of local wells could be drying up too just like in Arizona.

You have the creek right there. You can use a small sump pump, 1" hose & a generator to gather water if things get tight. We are off grid & did this for the past 1.5yrs to support all of our water needs. 5oz of bleach added to 300gal of water will purify to the USDA safety standards. Never had an issue

A lot of people get their water from a creek. If you put a Sandpoint down about 20 feet from the creek or dig a shallow well several feet from the creek you get filtered water. We did it and our neighbors also.

Both you and Spencer have done an amazing job of making this home that used to be a container that was hauled around this country by truck and on a ship from a distance land as it probably has stories it could tell but Kenzie you and Spencer have transformed this into a lovely home that anyone would be proud of and now Beau and Cam can enjoy this home built with love and dedication. Hopefully mother nature will send a little more rain your way and top off the tanks. The chili looked delicious Kenzie leave me a bowl. Glad that Spencer figured out the water restriction from his little filter maybe use one thats not as restrictive that allows more flow. You should buy a sensor for the water tanks to tell you how full it is without opening it. You can pick up one which will beam the results to a readout inside your home. That way you can check if and when they are filling without having to check

No sensor needed. All they need is a tube with 2 shut off values with a clear tube. That way they can see the level. Once the level is known, you can shut the value off, then open another value to drain the clear tub so that mold won't grow in it.

@@BuccarooRanch23 Effective, but still sounds a lot less convenient than a sensor that tells you from inside the house. Instead of a sock filter, you need to install a receiver (settling) tank where all of the debris will settle out and the clear water will flow up and over into your collection tanks. A trip to a water processing plant in your town may give you some good ideas.

Spencer- A few Idea's thinking about the water issue. * Filtering large debris. We built a sand filter out of locally available 55 gallon drums. Lowes had 4 x8 sheets of PVC for the bathroom. Drum had 2 connections on the top. Used one as inlet and one as outlet. Cut a slot across the middle of the top. Cut a pvc piece to slide to the bottom of the drum as wide as would fit and reach the top of the drum. Cut a notch to allow flow across the centerline. Slowly added sand to each opening allowing the sand to support the PVC. Filled to about 3/4 full of sand. Sealed slot with JB Weld so with connections it was watertight. This was my middle filter. First drum was a debris filter with a screen. Second drum was the sand filter. Third drum was for sand settling. Third drum outlet flowed into the holding tank or up to an overflow to the creek. My tank was in the ground to prevent freezing. * Water collection - A slopped surface that you do have is the solar array. Your array is 2 panels high and water will run off during a rain event. Collect the water and send it to the tanks. 2 gutters may be needed on the back side of the array to not block any light. * Tank position - I would consider digging a hole for the tanks and possibly the equipment shed. Due to your location not sure how deep you can go for the water table or potential of flooding.

We built a rain tank (550 gallon) on the side of our summer kitchen. The 3 'PCV pipe comes off the gutter into another PVC pipe approximately 4 ft long. This pipe has a bottle neck section between the gutter and the "down spout" PVC portion. The water leaves the gutter and fills this first PVC pipe "down spout", which has a soda bottle in it. As the water rises, it eventually causes the soda bottle to float/rise and plug the bottle neck portion. Then the rain water flows across the "down spout" section and straight into the tank. This allows all the dirty water to go down the 4' "down spout" first. I just spin the cap off the end of the "down spout" after each rain to drain out the dirty water. Off of the top of the rain tank, we also installed a vent pipe, covered in screen so we don't have a mosquito problem, and a over flow pipe. Sorry if I'm not explaining this better. It really does work great! The water is just as clear as it is coming out of the garden hose. We are going to install two more rain tanks which will be off of our house. One will provide rain water for an outside shower. We have a 30 gallon tank, painted black, to install next to that rain tank to create hot water so we will have cold and hot water available.

Since you are winding down on your home build; you should create a board and place in a obvious location to list things to check on a daily, weekly, monthly. semi annual or annual basis. This would help alleviate problems like this.

At quick glance, I thought notifications said Baby Boom, so thought Beau and Cam had a sibling coming lol. Phenomenal editing as always, and the kids' bath is gorgeous, Spencer. Can we all have a collective prayer for your water accumulation over this summer?! 🙏🏼

A well would be a great consideration, especially with the unpredictable weather patterns. What a beautiful home you two have made for your family. Oh man.... When Spencer is depressed, I feel it's really bad 🥺 Your little ones are so cute. Love family picnics. I love the bathroom fixtures and I agree the fresh stain on the porch is the best transformation. Beau is a rascal 🤭

Making sure all 4 of the screws on the bathroom switch plate are perfectly horizontally lined up......that's attention to detail. Emblematic of your entire build.

I understand ... Ive felt your pain 😏 staying at my sisters - rural, tank water, huge rain and the gutters were full of “crap” sooo frustrating 😪 had to buy two loads of water....I now clean the gutters every two weeks!!! ☺️

As a household who also depends on rain water alone, we don’t use leaf eater’s, we have gutter guard’s and double bug screen mesh on the catch baskets on the top of the tanks, we get next to no leaf littler and little pollen. We have to clean the baskets out regularly (at least every month) but the gutter guards are a godsend not only to keep the water cleaner but to stop leaves collecting in the gutters and becoming a fire hazard (Queensland Australia heavily treed block of land with high fire danger). Thanks for sharing your journey I’ve been here since the beginning and love it.
