I'm 51, female, and got into IF and prolonged fasting 10 months ago. I lost fat and built muscle the most by my 3-day+ fasts. I've done 3 3-day, 1 4-day, and 2 5.5-day fasts in the last 10 months. I've only been this built back when I was at the gym lifting weights 3 times a week in my early 30s. Now I'm just living my rural farm life and have the same result because of the IF and prolonged fasting. And I'm omnivorous, clean keto with no supplementation for HGH.
@@strizz1992 It depends on your goals. I originally started fasting (IF and prolonged) to heal an auto-immune disorder (severe asthmatic response to histamine in food and produced by my body that I HAD to heal because I literally couldn't EAT at all without causing an asthma attack) which I did. I fasted a LOT to make that happen (not to mention I was asymptomatic while I wasn't eating so that made it easier). In the _process_ I noticed my muscles getting really defined and my strength increasing! So, I don't know what to tell you regarding how much to do to get that result, but my advice is to start upping your fasting lengths and see what happens over the next 6 months.
@@strizz1992 I can't speak for Brian, but my longest fast, 134 hours, was 3 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing some healing of an eye issue that started getting better the day after my fast. I don't feel euphoric, LOL, but the results can last for months if you're talking about stem cell production.
Since I became familiar with Dr. Berg I have started being much more conscious of my carb intake, especially sugar. My PCP had me tested and he told me that I have a genetic predisposition to diabetes. I also found out that I was potassium and magnesium deficient. Learning from these videos has had an enormous effect on my personal preventative care routines.
@@NansGlobalKitchen I take 400mg magnesium. I take a prescription dose of potassium, so I forget what the regular dosage would be but I wouldn't take as much as I do without asking your doctor. As far as brands go, Himalaya is probably my favorite supplement brand.
As a 270lb bodybuilder. I can't do keto. I tried it many times. It isnt sustainable long term for guys like me. It severely destroys performance in the gym. 'Flat' muscles lead to easy injury when working out. I know from personal experience. If you aren't a bodybuilder sure keto is a good lifestyle diet. But bodybuilders need carbs to function properly and minimize risk of injury. If the goal is fat loss as a bodybuilder keto is fine, but you have much higher risk of injury especially if you go heavy. The water retention from high carb diets is what helps protect the joints and muscles when going heavier. Do with that information what you will. Have a blessed day.
If you're a competitive bodybuilder, yes. Mike Mentzer once taught that the majority of your muscles are water. CarboHYDRATES are necessary to get water into the cell. You can get ripped on keto but you can't get as huge as you need to.
I'm also working out and I experienced the same but what if we increase creatine intake drastically? It can give extra water retention meanwhile keto??
I am 61 years old; 62 in one week. I have never told you how much you have helped me with my health and weight loss. I was 282 when I started watching your health advice. The education about what I was eating was the reason I was overweight. The keto information, eating more salads, getting wheat gluten out of my life, no more Cornola oil foods. my sugar intake is very low now. I lost; without running or high levels of exercise 29 pounds. 253 is the new me and still cutting up. I have abs again and lost all the inflammation in my joints. I can ride my bike again. I eat 2 times a day fasting between. Thank you Thank you. I have shared it with everyone.
I can relate, i found Dr Bergs videos about a year ago, searching for natural remedies for thyroid disease. At this point, i stopped buying pasta, rice, potatoes. I bought 3 hens that give me 3 eggs a day, which enables me to eat between 3 and 6 eggs a day (depending on if i am home). Eating tons of salad + eggs, even if i want to eat less healthy food, after eating eggs and salad, i am so full! I also eat some dark chocolat and bananas, and i lose a pound a week without even trying... (which i gain back whenever i visit my mom lol..)
sorry if this is a stupid question but i just want to make sure, when you say you eat 2 times a day and fast in between, you eat breakfast, skip lunch and eat dinner?
@@paulcuddle664 It just means I don't snack in between my two meals. my first meal is at 11:30am then I don't eat again until dinner at 5:45pm. I keep away from sugar.
I'm 70 and have taken care of myself with a clean diet, vitamins, creatine ,bcaa's and trt, good rest. I work out 2 hours / 5 × / week and eat clean. Squat 315 lbs 3×10 , leg press 950 lbs 3×10. Chest is a combo of 9 exercises 3×10 each exercise. Same with chest and shoulders. I like to push myself to exhaustion using 85 % my max. I appear 45-50 years old. I used to mix weight training and thenrung. I ran 90 miles a week. Now, I periodically do 1 hour interval training. Abs I do everywhere day. I trust my hgh levels are normal.
This is an amazing video. Should be the starter for being educated in keto and intermittent fasting for why and how it works. As in keto is not for losing weight, it is for living and eating to keep the machine properly functioning. Been taking milk thistle for years, along with D3, zinc, and most all the other minerals. Will have to look into that pituitary gland support supplement, sounds interesting.
Sorry but the comment about plants increasing oxygen in your house while you are sleeping is just wrong (Assuming you sleep while it is night and with lights turned off) Plants need light to make photosynthesis and they will not be producing oxygen while you are sleeping - They will however deplete oxygen in the air in the absence of light, since they need oxygen to live aswell. Other than that, I support your message Dr. Eric - I love your videos and what they did for my health. Thank you!
If you have control over your thermostat, keep the Fan setting to "Circulate." This will keep air moving periodically even when heat/cool is not needed. (It doesn't impact electric bill very much). If you have a newer house it will draw some fresh air through an intake. If you have an older house, it will draw some fresh air through cracks. I bought a CO2 meter and found that two adults and one dog sleeping in the same room with the door closed will raise the CO2 levels to over 1000 ppm! Having the HVAC fan set on circulate brings it down under 800ppm, not great but livable. Having a window open should go below 500ppm for ref.
I'm grateful for this channel. Keep it Up. I went to Pharmacy School and I'm really honest here saying, none of this was mentioned. But tbf the course deals with drugs I.e how to repair or get to some sort of normalcy after an illness. However after much contemplation I think we should also be taught how to stay ahead of the curve and not necessarily react after much damage has been done. How to cultivate healthy practices should also be insisted despite how much the modern world seems to lack a standard. I.E anything and anyone is being accepted despite reasons that whatever they are doing isn't okay/alright. Anyways much love from Kenya🇰🇪🇰🇪. I also love the positive community in here. So big up yourselves too✌️🏿✌️🏿
Thank you for this education regarding natural growth harmone. Wisdom and knowledge is absolutely beneficial for health and wellness! Thanks and respect to you; Dr. Berg.
Hi, Can you make a video about T-cell activation or and different ways we can do it. How we can safely increase the T-cells as they are crucial for human body defense. Love your content.
Check out Pottenger's Human RU-vid channel. He recently did a video on T cell regeneration. 72 hr fast was and is a definite T cell regeneration hack. Plus his videos are always so informative and his research is 2nd to none.
Thanks so much! That is wonderful news! Would you be willing to share more about your weight loss journey? Please use this link www.drberg.com/add-client-success-story
Sooo incredibly resource dense n a summary of many past things. Knowledge, understandin sure helps with havin more a sense of control in our rollercoaster world. With many serious heart challenges n such conflictin advice, as a 70 yr ole recently i just concluded, do what u can but prioritize excersize within personal limits, thanks again Eric, you n others certainly r making a huge difference imo
It's my understanding that plants consume oxygen at night by burning carbs for energy. It would be necessary to give plants a night-light for them to produce oxygen at night. P.S. I love Dr. Berg and watch all of his videos. Thank you Dr. Berg for sharing your wisdom/research and making the world a healthier place.💯❤
True but they were photosynthesizing all day so there should be some in there already plus having a light on while your sleeping would likely disrupt ur circadian rhythms
I think they're dormant at night. Photosynthesis is driven by sunlight (photo = light). O2 is only released during photosynthesis - in daylight (or light).
correct, having a plant by you at night to increase O2 is completely false. Take everything you hear on youtube with a grain of salt and do your own research from multiple reputable sources before committing things to memory. Having said that, the amount of C02 they give off at night is negligible.
Nice topic Dr. Berg, I learned something about glycogen & keto & also how to manage muscles while doing keto. Been to keto for 4 months now with IF and it does helped me in losing some weight effectively. I even surpassed my targeted weight. I lose 2kg for almost 2months. But lost some muscles too, luckily I found the reason behind it thru this video. Still learning everyday not just about health. I'm a follower of your channel Dr. Berg. I'm from the Philippines. More power to your channel. Blessings!
Plants need Sunlight to transform CO2 into Oxygen (O2). At night there is no sunlight. They actually release some CO2. So a plant in the bedroom might sound good, but it’s actually a bad idea
All right, but one point missing… The gland is regulating the wake-sleep circle. To become naturally healthy you should get as much sunlight in your eyes in the morning as possible, and hardly any blue light in the evening. Then it can do its job, and give you growth hormone 💪
@@rxenergy7324 Aha, that would explain why it is missing! Thanks for pointing this out to me 👍. And go out in the sun in the morning as well 😉, stay healthy and happy!
First of all, Thanks for all the great info!! Your tips have helped so much. My BP is down 50/30, I've lost loads of weight, and the heart related effects of a certain disease and vaccine were eliminated using the correct vitamins and amino acid. I have all the symptoms of what you list here, I guess it's the next thing I'll work on.
Thanku DrBerg Sir.Always always informative,statically proven,fact founded,coherent and practical be-cause it's technically presented.A condensed recap towards the end definitvely a diamond..David
I love the fact you mentioned co2 when sleeping. Dr Andy Galpin talks about how any little factor could hinder progress. Even one instance where a tree in your neighborhood could cause allergies.
Another great video. I'm having trouble sleeping for the last 8 months and I'm not always waking to pee. Would PMG help me, and where can I get it. I have noticed my muscle growth is not what it should be since starting at the gym. I've been fasting, but things are only getting worse. My diet is very good, mostly organic. Try my best to eat foods in moderation, not too much of any one thing.
My muscles get bigger with intense weight training AND a diet composed of 65 percent healthy carbs. Without carbs, even when I fast 18-6, My muscles get smaller, it seems.
Be careful about going by the morning blood glucose levels especially if you are doing the carnivore/lion diet. I have been doing carnivore (no sugar, zero carbs) for over a year and when I get my morning blood glucose tested after fasting it's 100-110, however my A1C is 5.2. Dr. Ken Berry said it was normal & the reason for the high glucose levels is because I do not eat any sugars or carbs in my diet so my liver has to produce the glucose that my body needs. The main thing to test is the A1C to see what your blood sugar levels are. I'll admit when I had my 1st blood test after going carnivore & saw how high my glucose was it did freak me out 😊
What are the benefits / negatives of taking extra growth hormones or testosterone as an older person? Would love to see a video on this! And for younger people too!
*He answers your question directly in the video starting at about 8 minutes.* However, the real question is why did he leave prolonged fasting off the list and why wouldn't one just do that instead of supplementing? I'm 51 and my mom is 77 (and she had a stroke 7 years ago) and we're quite muscular from doing quite a few 3-day+ fasts over the last year; she does _not_ lift weights but does some body resistance work like squats while folding clothes, etc). I have to assume it's from the HGH and stem cell production. My max is 134 hours (5 days, 14 hours), and 10 months ago I'd never fasted except when I was sleeping. Prolonged fasting benefits the entire endocrine system which obviously includes testosterone production as well.
I’m not saying you or your mothers experience didn’t happen, but it’s been demonstrated quite conclusively that human growth hormone is NOT anabolic with regards to skeletal muscle, and neither is testosterone within the normal physiological range (I.e. without exogenous steroids). For more of an explanation check out Layne Norton’s video “hormones don’t build muscle”
I am no expert but the elderly men I have known that take prescription male testosterone makes them grouchy, it definitely changes their personality and makes them grumpy. There is No miracle cure. Eat good clean natural foods, fruits, vegetables, get plenty of exercise & sleep. 👍🙏🏼✌️
@@allhimwithme5115 With all due respect he didn't really answer the question because he only talked about natural increases unless I just completely missed it, either way it's probably worth it's own video
I have a pituitary tumor and too much of it. It’s destroyed my body so many horrible things I’m awaiting surgery. I e had this for so long and wasn’t diagnosed
You don’t have to even watch the video with Dr Berg to know it’s just advocating IF and keto. Didn’t even watch but know that’s the solution he’s promoting
I understand the point youre making with oxygen, its true just get a co2 meter and see how much having an open window helps. However, plants dont exchange enough co2 for oxygen to make a measurable difference in the size of space we're talking about. Loading your room with plants will not change the readings of co2 in the room.
Yes, having plants in your room can help increase oxygen levels, but the effect may be minimal. However, plants also release carbon dioxide at night through respiration, so the net effect on oxygen levels might not be significant. Nonetheless, having plants can improve air quality and add a natural touch to your room, which may have other benefits for your well-being.
Thank you for the informative session. I was impressed with the number of connections I made with this video as I have had sleep apnea for a long time. Plants in the room? That was a good one too.
There is also central sleep apnea, which is not obstructive, is unrelated to weight, but can accompany obstructive apnea. Central apnea is when the brain just tells the body to stop breathing. Unfortunately, I have both. Sleeping with a CPAP helps, but I am not always able to.
I followed dr.berg's keto diet for over a year, i lost a bit of weight but it resolved none of my health issues and my testosterone was very low - so low my doctor was considering trt. I'm now carnivore 6 months, lost 50kg, prediabetes, joint pains, old injuries, lethargy all gone. I feel energised and am doing cardio and weights for the first time in 20 years. My testosterone is now right at the top end the normal range. Drberg tries to make everything so complicated but i've had absolutely the best results just eating meat.
Listen to your body. I respond much better carnivore as well. Some veggies mess me up. I'm not 100% carnivore, but I'm considering it. It's tough. Especially socially. We're a food based society. Giving up alcohol totally has been life changing for me too. Good luck to you.
A single plant doesn’t do much. It takes almost 700 plants to replace the oxygen you’re using, plus plants use more oxygen than CO2 at night so you’re just going to be lowering the oxygen even more.
My Family Doctor explained to me that the decrease in growth hormone with age is the body's natural defense against stimulating the growth of cancerous tumors.
