I love this channel, before I was paralyzed I ran a 383 all forge parts, AFR heads, paxon blower, but in 03 we didn’t have as good tuning software as today’s computers do..had to sell after millions in medical bills, and a yr in the hospital..miss it bad, I came here from Cletus’s channel, during the 400k subscriber ask, and it was a great move, I was a paid subscriber for a while, but now I’ve got to watch $$$$ ..anyway this a good video..

I love watching your videos. You offer mostly unfiltered content, warts and all, which I appreciate. Things go wrong, mistakes get made, we make choices and sometimes we don’t get the results we expect. You seem to have the ability to demonstrate how much trial and error goes into anything “high performance” in a way that resonates with me. Love watching you guys doing testing, adjusting, testing again, adjusting, rinse and repeat until you get to where you were intending on going. Very satisfying. Thanks.

@pettertaillon6402
@pettertaillon6402 Месяц назад
Steve, get your head around it! Blowers DO NOT suck air in, pressure differential allows atmospheric pressure into the blower/ turbo. Carbs DO NOT suck air in, pressure differential causes atmospheric pressure to press into the carb and act on the fuel in the float bowl to push it through the jets. This is why ALL engines lose power as elevation increases. This is not because the engine sucks less, but because there is less pressure differential at altitude as atmospheric pressure decreases. Facing the blower/turbo forward causes ram air to increase the pressure differential. Cleaning up the air inlet allows atmospheric pressure to act more efficiently upon that inlet. Understand a vacuum does not exist, only a lack of atmospheric pressure. A flat tire on earth is inflated to 14.7 psi on the moon. When you understand this, you correctly know why intercooling and A/C works. Lower air pressure = higher oxygen density= more horsepower.

@gamersplaygroundliquidm3th526

How does the pressure reach equilibrium without drawing in air from the higher pressure outside the charger? In your own words "Blowers DO NOT suck air in, pressure differential allows atmospheric pressure INTO the blower/ turbo." you realize your describing a sucking effect where the air is being "allowed into the blower" in the front of the intake outlet on the blower? The very act of the air being pulled into the blower is suction by definition Suction is "The production of a partial vacuum by the removal of air in order to force fluid into a vacant space". The blower is removing air in order to force more air aka suction...... also Air density increases as pressure increases, if what you said was true that it was the opposite than we could breathe better the closer we got to space or the higher in elevation one would go, we all know that isn't true, or at least hope we do....

The additional 2 psi of boost also added more parasitic loss and you have reduced the vacuum in front of the compressor wheel so reducing the parasitic loss on the charger as it would be easier to spin. I think it's a combined result of an extra 1psi of boost and less parasitic loss giving 55hp vs 2 psi of boost and more parasitic loss giving 50hp. It's more the air coming in from the side or behind the compressor hitting the air coming in straight and causing massive turbulance. The bell acts like a nice smooth on ramp on to a highway rather than just being a T junction with a highway.

My older Toyota with 250k on the clock is working to get to 85 (the speed limit on the toll road by my house) in a reasonable distance. Not having the money to replace the engine, that's the limit for me. The idiots going more than 100mph might be a better test of Steve's concept. And yes, there is alot of them on 130 south of Austin. NB - when the road first opened the wild pigs and deer were not expecting cars going that fast.. several cars hit pigs in excess of 100. 😮 Totaled the cars. Still happens from time to time with pigs and deer at night. Run stupid races, win stupid prizes.

F1A-94 likes to spin well over the max rating to make best power. The efficiency spot you are talking about is just starting to be tickled at 74k rpm. If you aren't going to overspin, an F1A-94 isn't a great blower choice, as they really want RPM. On serpentine setups allowing for a little belt slip, we pulley them for 80k-82k for max power. It'll make 1400whp+ through a manual LS on a hub dyno like yours. That's with a flex fuel friendly compression ratio. The 94 will live a good while at that rpm but definitely not as long as it will at 74k. Fine for anything that isn't constant rpm like a boat though. The P1-X, D1-X, F1A-94, and F1X all want to be spun hard. The older impeller designs not so much.

That's not just efficiency. You're not only increasing the boost you're changing the air density. That's why the horsepower levels change regardless of the boost level.

Steve, one axis, two axes. Axises is not a word. ;) Instead of breathing out of a staw, what about breathing out of a funnel? Air can be compressed, so putting a big radius inlet at the big end of a funnel where more cold and dense air exist might be a solution.

Higher octane fuel does NOT create more power than the lesser. Octane boos only makes the fuel more stabile, therefore necessitates either more compression &/or more timing advance to increase power potential of the higher octane fuel. Now, an increase in spark energy, say a plasma ignition system, will cause a larger, faster flame front on ignition, necessitating the retarding of timing with either fuel. But you're still only going to get so much power, as the fuel only has so much BTU of power available to use. The pull by only changing octane & a bit of timing proves my point at about 12 minute mark.

@KingJT80 if you are a competent tuner or have a competent tuner, holding down 1200whp (manual or locked auto) on an LS is a non-issue. At that level, tuning or an unrelated mechanical failure is pretty much the only reason for it knocking a gasket out. People who have trouble are the ones piling too much power in at low RPM.
