Ain't that just the RU-vids for ya. Just like on shorts specifically created to make people angry and comment. Engagement, even negative engagement in the comments definitely has an effect in the algorithm. Little drama, and everyone will talk about it for a week, soak up them extra views.
when you understand that everyone has there own speciality then it’s not problem people just creating attention to themself to get a reaction from them they do need to take a chill pill
@@ryandevriendt1324 Steve builds dry deck too tho, and it would be nice to have loyalty. Garrett is not some professional. He does a few events each year..
Cleetus uses his reach to raise the online profile of other shops. Be those chassis or engine builders, tuners or body workers, lawncare guys or concreters, helicopter maintence facilities or RC plane builders. There is no hate - just a guy having fun, spreading the love and building subscriber numbers for others. Not every tuner or engine builder offers a package for every car - doesn't mean bridges have been burned with everyone he has previously worked with.
@timnewburry3687 I don't know what you mean with "rick Ross land" but even the first grass video it is mentioned he would get a discount for traffic to that guy's channel!
I can vouch 100% that Mullet wasn't designed to be pushed to the level it has achieved. But neither were any of his other builds up to that point, Leroy's a good example too. I've really enjoyed following Cleeter and I'm super excited for the opportunity to have had a hand in helping him get there over the last seven years. The fact that Steve is getting that engine back and all the rods are still in it says a lot about the engineering that went into the SMX design from the start because Cleetus has a knack for freeing rods from captivity... a lot.
KSR Kevin said day 1 that mullet was too heavy, gonna cost 100 of thousands of dollars and its still gonna cause problems BUT thats what cleetus wanted
In my opinion, there is no engine builder that has more integrity than Steve Morris. He has always been 100% transparent and has gone above and beyond with customer service for not just Garrett, but many other customers as well! Steve is 100% liget in my book. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Exactly what garret said mullets will always be smx and Leroy Pete’s engines he’s not married to a brand so he does whatever he wants and people don’t get it 😂
I'm grateful that Cletus introduced Steve Morris to me in his videos. I love the work that you do, how honest and transparent you are and I'm a HUGE fan!
Props to Cleetus and Steve for keeping each other in the loop to avoid awkward surprises. Tells a lot about their character by the way they treat their partners.
They both knew the shit storm of garbage that was going to happen before it even started. It has happened multiple times on Cleetus' channel, and bet your butt he already told Steve it was going to happen. If they weren't wanting it to happen, they would have released a video MONTHS ago about what all was coming up for both channels and to NOT start any bullshit because of it. But like Cleetus said, it has gotten BOTH channels a bump in video watching. So why not manipulate the soft skulls and get a few extra bucks from youtube monetization.
The timeline tells the truth, Garrett filmed the Proline HEMI video before Sick Summer! Garrett did not know the SMX heads were removable just like the Proline HEMI until after Steve drove out to help him with the lifters. Garrett & Steve were still working together after the Proline video was filmed, NO DRAMA!
No Garrett was right also... You can't take the heads off while the intake is on inside mullet there's not enough room... And anybody that's watched them work on it during a drag week should know that
The fact that you even have to bring up the relationship between you and Cletus pretty much cements the fact that social media is the devil. Obviously you are a fantastic engine builder.
It's funny, all the people saying cleet was ditching steve for "his old big block" while steve built it and is over here still rebuilding it. I guess these people also think a SMX is a direct competitor to proline.
@@jestablitz3804 did you watch sick week you clowns should buy knee pads cleetus acted like a bitch even after what steve did but you can buy it was planned only thing planned was on steves side getting his SMX back
@@jestablitz3804 you have no right to speak because they at least make engines while you sit here and act like every keyboard wielding wannabe mechanic who knows nothing
People forget Cleetus makes content. Getting engines from different people adds to that. Everything used to be LS. He’s branched out and has engines from different builders and manufacturers. It adds to the channel. That is his job. Let’s also consider how long it would take to get engines rebuilt if he only used 1 builder. At the rate he blows up engines he would be waiting forever. Gotta spread it around.
I would hope that dealing with ONE company, that they would have MULTIPLE backups sitting in the warehouse that are Cleetus' specifically. While Steve COULD do that, Cleetus isn't gonna drop $300k for 2 extra engines sitting in boxes at Steve's place IN CASE he breaks something. Texas Speed having a larger warehouse could do that if they chose to, or ship them to him to keep in the big ass barn where he keeps the toterhome across from the shop.
most of his engines still use the LS platform except for I believe Neighbor and Mcflurry and soon to be Eagle so it isn't like he abandoned the LS platform but you're 100% right about how it adds to the channel
I think the biggest thing being overlooked is sponsorships. Cleet doesn't get free engines but he gets some sort of discount with the advertisement value from the views he gets. Steve can get him a scratch and dent SMX and a refurbed big block but if he built and reworked every single cleetus engine at a discount he'd never be able to complete his other customer engines that bring in more profit. One or two engines each at multiple engine builders and now he gets more discounts and a better chance of an emergency rebuild just once or twice a year. It's an everybody wins scenario.
They use(d) LS for everything because they know the engine inside and out. But if he wants to keep progressing they have to step out of their comfort zone.
Texas speed was the original OG, it's just the progression of racing. As the program gets more serious, so does the chassis and the engine. I don't hear anyone crying about mullets chassis. Which I might assume was built by any RU-vid creator
Funny how everyone was saying that Steve was being replaced by Cleet for "his old big block" but in fact Steve constructed it and is still rebuilding it here. These folks must also believe that an SMX directly competes with Proline.
The engine failed due to lack of maintenance. Not that it was built poorly or poor workmanship. Steave has been 100% open on this engine since day 1 and he’s been there every time Cleetus has had an issue with it as it’s great info for R&D. People forget mullet was meant to be a jet car and the engine was just to help get it around and up to speed for top speed run
Running the engine when it's down a cylinder has be really hard on the mains with all the weird harmonics that would be going on at those power levels. It's impressive that it didn't break worse honestly.
Ol' Cleet just runs the best engine for the class he's running. That's why Pete Harrel engine in Leroy, Steve Morris engine in Mullet and Proline in Eagle! Best class engine for each respective class!
@@54raceman Ok why? I guess I have no idea what a pro275 car is then. I thought because they started on LS based engines is would suit them well to have an ulitmate version of a LS in the SML. Why would that not "survive". What is it that I am missing if you are so much better informed?
Steve cutting open the filter and knocking his tools repeatedly everywhere is pure comedy gold. Unfortunate, I now need to clean up the coffee I spat out while laughing 🤣
If it wasn’t for Mullet’s big blocks, I would have never known about Steve Morris and his engines. Same as Texas Speed, Proline and HED. I’m happy to see the channel and the industry evolving thanks to the exposure of these engine builders.
Before the internet, you only had to deal with that one asshole in your group of friends. Now, ALL the ass-hats can irritate everyone in the world. Isn't technology great?
@@Freddy_Confetti no but the guy is free to do as he pleases. Neither of them should have to make a video explaining anything. Whats there to defend he did nothing wrong lol that’s the whole point of it.
I hate that steve feels he has to justify anything to subscibers garrett & all racers know they are pushing the limits with engines no one does more than Steve morris for his customers being constantly under the spot light can be uncomfortable but it is the price you pay being on "U" tube he is a great guy lets get behind him not try and cause trouble.
Oh and just for the record anyone that sends negative comments about any engine you build has zero clue nor the money to purchase your cheapest used engine. You are a legend, ultimate reliability and build quality. I’m a die hard Nelson guy and I honestly think you might just be more detail oriented than Tom is. Listening to you talk reminds me of the engineering class I probably should have paid more attention to.
@@chicago_race_engines7538 To run an SMX exclusively at the track is not the smartest way to use that engine. To use a 481X as a drag n drive engine is equally ignorant.
Steve is known throughout the world. You don't get that kind of notoriety without being a badass engine builder. Just because Cleet tried something different doesn't take anything from either one of them. Anyone notice Cleet has at least one of just about every manufacturer, now? Smart dude. He has something for everyone. Whether a GM, FORD, DODGE, or a TOYOTA fan, he has something that will appeal to your racing taste.
@@Timberwolf69 Yes Chrysler, then shortly after (like a few years) they became Chrysler Dodge. Which came out with the Cuda to name just one of the many that show cased the Hemi, not a lot mind you but a few cars ended up with them.. Then it was an option to have one if it would fit..
Its disappointing people speculate so much that you have to address the "issues" that dont exist. I mean watch the videos and enjoy. Clearly, racing is racing at this level theres no warranty. The fact that Steve does what he does for his customers is pretty frikkin awesome. Either way....im excited for the vids to come
No I really think they don’t. I think alot of fans of these channels don’t know much about racing other than what they have learned through the channels, which is fine but it’s something ive noticed
I certainly don't know.. I'm a musician and music producer who dabbles in automotive youtube because I enjoy working on my old Firebird but I don't race it either.. I can still guess; does drag imply that it's strictly a trailer car that runs on the track? while drag n drive implies a car that is still street legal and able to get around without a trailer?
Hardest part about being a big youtuber is dealing with some of the comments. Personally I never once felt like Cleetus was abandoning you or mad about anything. He knows exactly why it broke. Lol! Like you said, the right tool for the job.
Yeah...doing donuts in Mullet. I love ole Cleet as much as the next guy but he does some really dumb stuff sometimes. He'll blow that Proline before too long too. Virtually guaranteed.
Hey Steve, it's really cool that you and Cletus work together the way you do. And you have nothing to explain. Your stuff is top-notch brother. Everybody knows that. Keep it going. God bless
Well as a guy that has been racing, Cletus is not easy on any of his racing motors, I was very impressed that you dropped everything to see if you could help him out. I have never heard of a racing motor with a warranty. I just wish I could afford one of your engines .
Cleetus always pushes engines to the limit to find a breaking point, that what he's about, i love the fact that eh has a engine for pretty much each car, fact he will now have 3 different onces for 3 different car just means he building the best car for the best classic. as you know hw runs in several different ones, he doing all of this for his fans, i love that! making different content so it not the same boring stuff he's doing, its amazing, i love that he does that! one of the best channels on here for drags, for drags and drives to doing skits to other content, he's switching it every time, i doubt he has a problem with anyone he works with because he just naturally talented at doing whatever he gets into, only naturally talented at pushing the limits and breaking stuff lol. it won't be long before he build a smx drag car with the right car for that engine!
Very cool and thanks for the clarifications, Steve. Makes perfect sense. Your reputation and engines require no justification. You offer truly world class performance and equipment for a specific kind of racing event (drag and drive). Pro-Mod is a whole different world. Wishing all hands much continued success. Former part-owner of a top alcohol dragster here.
I won't lie I'm a Proline fangirl, but also love Steve Morris. Let's be real Cleetus likes to turn things up to 11 and Mullet weighs about as much as the moon. It's a racecar it did amazing stuff and well racecars break, it's not a Camry.
This is why i love this channel. Steve is as open and to the point as possible. Shows as much as he can failure or not. Keep up the great work Steve and team. Respect from the UK.
The "problem" was how it was framed by Cleetus. He should have said what he said with a bit more tact. Not for your benefit, but for the viewers that heard his comment, it led everyone down a path that I'm sure wasn't intended.
@@Spike-sk7ql The last video from Sick Summer. I can't recall the title, but something about breaking Mullet's engine. In the end he basically blames the SMX instead of Mullet and himself.
I kind of agree, but you also have to, or should, understand, at that point, he was probably exhausted, and really frustrated, and it just came across more by how he said it, than what he said.
I made this exact comment on cleetus’s video. You make drag and drive motors. High hp motors for drag and drive cars. Not trailer queens that get pushed to the line and towed back to the trailer. People don’t understand tho because they arent car guys or know anything
Everyone forgets that Cleetus is a content creator, he tries to help support everyone, that’s why he has different engines from different companies, different car brands, different setups, he does it to show that there’s more good things out there rather than just one
I was going to comment on one of CJRC's vids that ProLine didn't do drag and drive engines, but I wasn't 100% sure, so I kept my mouth shut. Thank you for the confirmation in my thinking.
@@SourBogBubble Your comment is just as ignorant to me, as mine is to you. Who runs a Proline in drag and drive? I genuinely don't know, and seem like you can inform me.
People love creating drama out of nothing. You’re killin it! Engines are just metal. Stuff happens. Nothing is perfect. All you can do, and what you are doing is making it better! Unless you fail, you never find out how to improve things. It’s like constant R and D. Keep it up man! Your engines are insane and you and your team are crazy talented and knowledgeable!!
Absolutely! It shows great communication and mutual respect between Cleetus and Steve. Their ability to keep each other informed to avoid awkward surprises speaks volumes about their character and the way they value their partnerships.
When you run a few thousand hp shit breaks , but the research that Steve has put into the smx is unreal to think an engine of that power level can be driven state to state and still put a car into the 5s is pure wizardry
Both Steve and Cleetus have done nothing but win and grow each others channels and reputations since they joined up . Great things have happened and are coming . These guys are killing it
Cleetus is hard on equipment. Not a shocker. That Proline may live a long life, but then Cleetus....Also, Mullet and Eagle are two different cars in two different applications.
It will be interesting to see. Seems like many feel that maintenance is not one of Garrett's strong points. And that Proline really needs love and care to stay alive.
I appreciate the maturity and positive attitude. Theres not enough time in life to waste on drama. Good friends, fast rides, big guns and good times. ❤
Well, I normally don't make comments on other machine shops repairs, but this was drawn to my attention about the repairs that were made on these cylinder heads for Garrett, @6:24, when you showed your work on the repair of the blend of the cylinder head combustion chamber, I noticed that there was a lot of pitting and excessive voids in the filler weld. This is a common issue when TIG welding aluminum material in a cylinder head (to bring back depth and height) when the main core is not heated to a specific temperature. From my experience, I had the best results when I stripped the cylinder head down to the bare core and placed it over a open flame at a low heat setting on a rack in a controlled fire box. I would let them slowly (cook) up to the specific heat that I wanted. ( It would take up to two days mostly ) But when it came time to do the repair welding, the end results were unnoticeable and a better product that didn't promote torching, especially under boost. Just food for thought.
aah, new this would be coming. Any time Cleet makes some move up the chain in the industry, there's this thing that happens where people get weird about it. New goals, new problems, new solutions. 's all in the game.
That oil filter scene is gold, it's awesome to see the struggle and frustration from a high end builder, your just like the rest of us that are mechanics, just one of them days. This filmed on a monday?😂
I’ve been in the trade working on engines for over 30 years. I’ve learnt lots from your videos. Keep up the great work. You’re an awesome builder. Keep up with the awesome videos Steve even if I learn something small it’s worth the watch.
As for the SMX that was in Mullet. Harmonics do really weird things. I don’t think it was a fault of Steve or Cleet. It was just one of those weird engine things
The fact that you feel compelled to discuss your relationship with Cletus serves as further evidence why social media is wicked. It is obvious that you are an excellent engine builder.
I don't know where the beef started. It's nobody's business other than Cletus and Steve's. Steve has been nothing but honest and reputable from the beginning every video of watched. Some people just have to have drama in their life or they don't have anything at all. Keep doing what you guys are doing it's fun to watch also very educational. Thank you both 😊😊😊😊
never heard of Texas Speed until they made engines for Cleetus. I had never heard of Steve Morris until he made a v16 engine for a hypercar. watch all their fantastic work now :-)
its just so so much engine.. the level of craftsmanship here is up there u guys. keep having to close my mouth here, and im seldom impressed. how effortless it started its first time. and that low idle is my new text sound.
And since I know how RU-vid drama queens work, don’t think about going at KSR Performance for not building a good chassis. Kevin and Garret have both said Kevin’s goal with Mullet was to build a 6 second car with an LS, not low 6s trying for a 5 with a 5000hp SMX. Mullet was never designed to go as fast as it has and Kevin really overbuilt the car and did a great job as the chassis hasn’t been upgraded at all over what he originally did. Tell most people to build you a 6 second car it’ll run 6.9s then start breaking. Mullet has gone 6.3s with a very heavy car and only just now is the chassis starting to break.
Being Mullet with SMX was dry sump will he be going dry sump on the BBC now? Thanks for another great Video Steve Sir. The BBC sounds beautiful like a SME piece of ART as always
@@geniferteal4178 That engine and many other engines live under those conditions. I think Mullet is headed for a class that is less hard on things than Unlimited, Back to being a small tire car I guess.
People just need a reason to complain and be hateful. You and ProLine make very different engines for very different builds, and you're both top dogs at what you do. People need to understand that Cleet is using multiple different builders for the type of car he's trying to set up. Sidenote-Any fan of ole Cleeter knows that he's hard on everything he owns. The fact that the SMX and the og big block lasted as long as they did is a testiment to your build quality.
Props an Cleetus und Steve, weil sie einander in der Schleife halten, um awkward Überraschungen zu vermeiden. Tells viel über ihren Charakter durch die Art, wie sie ihre Partner behandelt.
Steve we used the company that coated the pistons. Really nice guy there. Forgot his name but remember he started in his basement. He sent us boxes of that coating to use to coat supercharger rotors.
Just a thought about the preheating on the engines mentioned at roughly 11:30 . For the engines with water cooling, you can get a Calix Forced Circulation Heater which will heat the engine to 230°F. They also have contact heaters in case you want to run it dry, or insertion heaters (Which needs to run wet) in case the customers might want to pre-heat the engines.
The fact cleetus has whole ass jig table now it'll be interesting to see what eventually happens to mullet over the years once the Dale truck is done and eagle is finished!
Have yet to watch the video.....No matter what anyone says about drama, Garrett is a content creator, he's gotta do some of everything he can. I mean.... From exhaust whistles, drag racing to boats to planes. He pretty much needs the attention of a goldfish, for his style channel. Which it is kinda nice .. and I wouldn't have found your channel had it not been for him. Hey... Don't you have machining to do..? You're doing great stuff my guy.
Steve's study on the SMAX is incredible; to believe that an engine with that much power can be driven from state to state and still fit a car into the 5s is sheer sorcery. Sure, stuff breaks when you run a few thousand horsepower.
I know Steve could build an engine that you can hit the 1/4 mile 25 times and refresh but why would he he has been 5’s with his engines and that’s what cleetwants however if you notice cleet likes having different engines in the fleet keeps everyone on there toes and that’s the diversity of the channel part of why everyone loves him
