SC is for reliability. Turbo is for modularity. Both are fun, both are great but turbo would be better option in my opinion. Amazing videos and just communicating with your viewers. This goes a long way!
I’m rooting for you man! I’ve been hoping to see you boost this thing for a while now haha. I definitely know the stress of waiting to do something like that too; I bought my new work truck in 2021 and I just was able to put my Whipple Kit on last year. I can’t even describe how anxious I was especially once I actually had the blower sitting in my garage. One thing about your intake though, that last silicone coupler going into the TB is a major restriction. The length of your intake is good and will promote low/mid range power production because having a length of pipe like that actually helps feed the engine at lower RPMs, but the diameter of it really isn’t offering you much benefit airflow wise since it’s cutting back down right at the throttle. We spent a whole day playing around on the dyno with intakes a while back. Granted it was a B series but we started with almost 3’ and hacked off 4-6” sections doing pulls in between until we got down to essentially just a filter on the TB. Interesting stuff for sure.
@kennethpowers8995 thanks man! Definitely been wanting to boost this for 6 years now haha. As for the coupler it's 3.5", which is still bigger then the TB itself. So it's not losing any airflow, but the restriction is it's not smooth since there's 3 pieces that can't of aren't smooth on the inside. Probably won't have the intske much longer anways, but definitely hoping to get about 5 or 6 different races before boost.
Turbo TL just sounds nice 💪 Hopefully these plans become reality sooner than later! I think people would love and hate to see a TL beating super cars 😅
Im finally gonna be giving my TL attention😂 Just got state reffed last night in the Q50, literally 3 hours after installing the catless downpipes. Also got hit with a 100+ mph ticket and some other tickets aswell. so i can’t even do any pulls or runs in the TL😪. Fun while it lasted i could finally hear the turbos spooling not alot but definitely nice
After taking my otherwise-stock TL to tail of the dragon and smoked my brakes up really bad, upgraded to EBC slotted rotors and yellow stuff pads. Highly highly highly recommend! Works well when driving daily for normal throttle, but also for touge runs and light track use
I'll definitely looks into their rotors too, I was recommended the R1 with EBC pads from another 4G owner who takes his in the twisties and has had no issues
Boost from the turbo is more fun, because there's way more torque through the mid range and it should still make more peak. The only thing that sucks is the exhaust note won't be that good, i suggest hood exit or bumper exit, make sure piping is short, lessens the chance of valve float....
@mk5rob42 there's a guy who made 540whp and the valves were fine. I'm going to test the limits of the stock motor, I got a spare j37a4 I'd like to build heads on. The long future goal is j32a2 heads though with J35 block
@skm1937 it's alright on cool nights and stock tune it helps a bit, but it would be more beneficial with a real tune. Also, the takeda bottle knocks, so if you plan on doing ported stuff in the future it's not the best design.
If you are gonna boost it I would probably upgrade the brakes all together , maybe just some type s Brembo's and ebc pads or something . Stopping is always > Going fast. Other than that your plans sound cool I have a 3rd gen but am thinking on getting a 4th gen as well. you are probably gonna need to build the other driveline parts as well if pushing a ton of power. Transmission will likely need to be built and you will need some beefier axles and I honestly got 0 idea on what the transfer case can handle but I wanna see what happens nonetheless. I'm gonna vote for a turbo build , these cars sound like gtrs with turbos its something sweet. I know a guy with a rear mount turbo setup in a 3rd gen gotta be the crazies thing I've ever seen/heard in the TL department
yea 3rd gen type s front brembos would be a good idea, you can find people selling them on marketplace sometimes way cheaper than spending 2k+ on a bbk
@Estranged_Enthusiast12 the 3rd Gen Brembos don't really fit the 4G. Also, they're kind of small for the 4G. They're some big brake kit companies but those will run me about 6k CAD or more for front and Rear. I think these rotors with some EBC pads will do just fine for 450-500WHP. Eventually I will get a big brake kit though. The axles and transfer case are pretty tough on these I've done 200+ 4500+rpm launches with no issues. So, even if I replace when they break they should hold up a bit. The 500+whp probably won't happen until a built engine anyways, then I'll have to look into building the trans.
If your putting the turbo in the bay, why not get a normal turbo. The oil less turbo are mainly for rear mounted builds where getting oil pressure is a issue. It would be cheaper too. Looking forward to the build.
@fortnitebruhesketit8823 I believe P2R is working on it. I think Halferland has something for it, but it's around $1100 US..Ktuner removes speed limiter so as long as you have around 500+HP it'll still pull pretty good in 6th gear haha
@RevsALot you are correct I forgot about that. I have a comptech supercharger on my Gen 7 accord 6 6 coupe . It's got a 08 tl type s full swap also. I'd like to turbo it and put my supercharger on my 06 aspec tl 6 speed . Any how love the video keep em coming.
I didn't watch it yet but I saw your title. Like I said before, I had a 2010 all-wheel drive TL and I looked at doing something like that but the compression ratio seems to be completely off which is why it's so difficult to get power out of the engine like your q50 is fairly easy to get power out of it. Why not go to the supercharger route?
@RevsALot those comp turbos are cool. Can't wait for you to gather all the parts and do the build. Would love to discuss the pros and cons of the supercharger vs turbo on the 4g platform.
@RevsALot I'm more referring to usability of power. How the torque curve comes in. Which one has a better feel? Which one is easier to tune? What's the weight difference between the two setups?
@repreviewforu1239 they're not even tuneable yet, they're automatic that auto upshifts, it's over 4200lbs. I'm already faster then the new Type S, and I'm NA. Once I'm boosted, Type S doesn't stand a chance even if it's FBO tuned. They're also about triple the price of what my TL is worth. Maybe someday when prices go down, I'll trade my Q50 in for one. I'd love to have one as a daily once they're able to tune the trans, but boost for the 6MT SH-AWD has been the goal since 2017 when I bought this car.
@@RevsALot they can be tuned and ofc a fbo car is faster than a stock build . Stage 1 and tune is way faster the a na j37. Even boosted the tlx types will be faster with a few mods
@repreviewforu1239 they are way faster off the line, but on a roll it'd be close. The fastest one is fbo ktuner and runs a 12.23s 1/4 mile @112 Mile. I'm still an NA car and was faster then a stock one before I was FBO or tuned. I know a modded tuned v6 turbo would be faster then an NA V6. Once I boost this though, no current Type S will be able to hang. For me, it's about doing something nobody else has done yet.
