Boot Any Computer From a USB Flash Drive or CD-ROM Using PLOP

Neat. I can use this to boot from USB on a Compaq Armada m700 Laptop. That machine doesn't support booting from USB, so I can just make a boot CD of this. (it supports booting from Floppy, but I do not have a floppy drive for this machine)

This works great--with qualifications. Before I explain, it should be noted that I was booting into PLOP from a CD, NOT from a floppy. For those who boot from a floppy disk, these exceptions may not apply--then again, they may. You don't really know until you try. If you DO have the issues that I did, maybe this comment will help. That said, on to the issues that I had and the solutions that worked for me. Some machines have front USB ports. In my case, if I plugged the USB drive into either of the front ports, PLOP would freeze when I pressed enter, or it would recognize that there was something in the front USB drive, but would not boot to it. When I went through the process again and plugged the USB drive into a rear USB port, it booted from the USB drive just fine. So, for those who have and are trying to use front USB ports and cannot get PLOP to boot to the USB drive, try rebooting into PLOP, then plug your USB drive into a rear port. ALSO, if you are using a USB mouse, it can interfere with PLOP. Until I unplugged my USB mouse and rebooted into PLOP, it would show that devices were installed on the two USB ports (the one where the mouse was located, and the one containing the USB drive); but it would not boot from the USB drive. Instead, PLOP froze. The next time I booted into PLOP, as the machine was starting up, I unplugged the mouse, and inserted the USB drive after booting into PLOP. PLOP successfully booted into the USB drive. I was then able to plug in the USB drive without issues. So, what i learned from the experience was: A. Front USB ports may not work for booting into a USB drive from PLOP. It's best to use a rear USB port and save the headache and frustration; and B. If booting from a USB drive using PLOP, other USB devices that are plugged into the machine may cause PLOP to fail to boot from the USB drive. Unplugging all other USB devices during the boot-up process may be necessary. After the boot process from the USB drive has begun, other USB devices can then be plugged in without incident. In my particular case, the machine that I was working on was an HP Pavilion Slimline s3713w machine running an AMD SATA motherboard and a Phoenix Award BIOS, version 6.0 (no options to boot from a DVD or a USB drive).

I have tried PLOP today and put it on a DVD and first off PLOP failed to run on Windows 8.1, mainly because I don't think Windows 8.1 can properly boot an ISO file from a DVD, but then I tried it with my Acer Aspire Desktop PC on Windows 7 and it worked fine, other than glitching out from selecting a boot device and it turns out that USB keyboards are not supported with her (the programmer) drivers, but other than that it works fine so far.

*MAKE A VIDEO, INSTALLING ..THE PLOP FROM MS-DOS, OR FROM MINI WINDOWS XP ..THAT WOULD BE GRAT !!*

How did you put that 1.440 kb file on a formatted 1.44 floppy disk?It is only the unformatted size that is 1.44kb. After formatting it will only have 1.38 kb available on the floppy disc. John

for the sake of discussion; if i d-l the iso use windows 8.1 ability to mount the iso, could i still burn a boot-able USB thru that avenue? i would think one could, what do you all think?

Hi there.. burnt plop in DVD. Booted up fine on my fujitsu siemens amilo D1840. Select Boot from USB. A window popped up .. Loading EHCI Driver, Searching on Hosts, Host 1, Port 3: Device Connected.. and it plop just froze there. Do you have any idea why? Tried my other 2 usb port but still the same. Hope u can help huhu thx!

i had a problem with my harddisk and i need to replace it, but after replacing i cannot install any os in the new harddisk as when ever i am trying to install it is loading from CD, making partions, but after copying files from CD/DVD it says system need to reboot now and it does not load from CD or USB instead the process repeats as press any key to boot from CD, plz help.

I was hoping to figure a way to do all of this from a memory stick. ....in your other video, using a memory stick to install run an operating system. ...I can't get my acer to see that memory stick
