About to buy a 2013 6-speed with 100k on the dot, comes with a 100,000 mile/5year warranty that covers almost everything. I wanted to hear your opinion on these cars between 100k-200k miles if you can fill me in? Thinking it will be a fun investment for how low they sell for and how clean this example is. Really good that it has been dealer maintained. Mine is only at 60k miles so I'm not sure how the ones over 100k miles are. I know the N55 engine is pretty solid and should last to 200k+. I'm not sure how other parts of the car will do. I know the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket goes bad eventually. I would ask on the forum about it if you want to know more info. The 6 speed version is a lot of fun.

I bought a 2013 BMW F30 335i at 90k miles. It so far runs well, but I did change the transmission oil. Since you mentioned you are about to buy a 6 speed I am assuming you are buying a manual or a N20. Stay away from N20s, you will regret it.

Old comment but if anyone new wants to know, I bought a 2011 328xi with 150,000 miles. I got it for cheap but it surprised me how good it felt to drive. Clutch was good and wasn’t replaced recently. Good shifts except sometimes first gear wouldn’t stick. Signs the transmission was going but still for sure had at least another 20k miles with good driving. I put 5000 miles on it within a month due to traveling and the only issue I ever had was a wheel speed sensor. Good cars

I think stage 1 is better value. But if you go stage 1 and then decide you want even more power, then stage 2 is still worth doing. I got used to stage 1 power pretty quick.

Hey NW, great video. I am planning to buy a 440i and put a stage 2 bootmod3 tune, but it is also my every day car and I reliability is my utmost priority. Any insights on stage 2 ? Thank you.

The engine in the 440i is strong and should have no trouble handling the extra power. But anytime you add more power to a car, you are gonna be adding more stress to the components. There is always some risk involved and you just have to accept it if you plan on tuning. But I am in a pretty big Bootmod3 Facebook group and I haven't seen anyone with a blown engine/transmission from using Bootmod3. The issues have mostly been smaller things like an axle breaking or spark plugs going bad early. You can just start on stage 1 and move on to stage 2 later if you still want to. The 440i stage 1 will be much faster than my 335i at stage 1.

@@NWAuto Hey thanks for replying. I've binged watched all your videos and got so much more education than almost any other youtuber. Secondly, I believe that NGK proposes Spark plugs for staged cars f3x. Also, I don't think the 440i would be that much faster than your car with comparable mods. The engine is just more resistant. The b58 is definitely the most reliable bmw engine out right now, but before you go stage 2, you need a catless downpipe from vrsf or any other company.

Nice wip! I'm moving to Stage 2 soon myself just waiting for the Canadian winter to come to an end before the bolt-on install. Here's the setup come this spring: 2013 BMW 320i xDrive ; 255/35/19 35ET (Replika R163A; Ironman iMove Gen2 AS); BM3 (Stage 2, 91 Oct & 8AT Trans); MagnaFlow Touring Series Exhaust; 4.5" VRSF CD; VRSF 6.5" HD Competition FMIC; CTS Turbo BOV; MST Turbo Inlet Pipe; FTP Charge + Boost Pipe; Injen Air Intake; CSF Performance Radiator, CTS Oil Filter Housing; BMS Oil Catch Can; Ultra Racing Front Strut Brace. I don't see it in your list of videos, but did you upgrade your breaks and suspension?

Thats gonna be a fun setup. Mine came stock with M Sport Brembo brakes, so no need to upgrade them. I haven't done any suspension stuff yet. I'd like to do M3 control arms and coilovers eventually.

@@NWAuto Right on. I'll likely do coilovers myself and eventually get some after market breaks, but I'm doing a bunch of preventive maitenance prior because I"m at 144K KM. Possibly the timing chain which isn't cheap. I"m stage 1 atm with the intake and the tire/wheel setup and even just that intself makes a huge difference, especially the BM3 sport transmission tune which was amazing. I'm not sure about the 335i, but I'm very glad I replaced the oil filter housing in my 320i xDrive from a stock plastic one to an alloy one as I found out it was cracking and it can get into the engine if not replaced.

They are both really good. I use BM3, but I have many friends who use MHD. I don't think you are making a bad decision either way you go. The differences between the two are pretty small. MHD gives you Stage 2 and Stage 2+. Stage 2+ gives you more power than regular stage 2. BM3 doesn't have a stage 2+, only a stage 2. If this is a big deal for you then go with MHD. BM3 gives you a transmission tune for free. I think with MHD you have to use something called XHP. BM3 also gives you the option to use XHP if you want a more featured trans tune. But if you don't want to spend the extra money on XHP, then BM3 might be a better choice. The trans tune is for auto transmissions only.

@@NWAuto Im just getting into mods and have an n20 F31 328, i read that the BM3 does NOT have trans tune, it's true there are two but understood that there were 2 dme's working together and that was the tunes. you'd still need an XHP trans tune... do you have anymore info on that? I have a 2013 F30 335i xdrive with 47,000 miles I have a 2 year drive train power train warranty I want to mod it but I like the peace of mind with my warranty’s any advice?

A stage 1 tune will usually be pretty reliable on N55. But if you do need a big repair, they can find out that it has been tuned. It doesn't matter if you remove it. Part of tuning is accepting that risk.

Sorry to chime in. But let say if youre doing a trip to dealership, you can just simply put the tune back to stock with bm3 or xhp. In order your warranty is still up.

@@kennkart my understanding is a dealer if looking for could still see that a tune was on before. I guess the dealership would have to look for or find the tune while diagnosing the issue. If you have 3rd party warranty going to a independent bmw repair shop may be better- they may not report prior tube or look for one.

hey dude, nice video. I own a 2012 f30 335i n55 pwg and am planning to tune the car with bootmod3. So far I only have a catless downpipe with straight pipe exhaust, an upgraded chargepipe, bmc air filter, and a brembo bbk as for bolt ons. Just swapped out the sparkplugs a month ago with a fresh set from bosch. Do you think it's fine to go straight to stage 2 without a fmic?

Yeah my friend did it without one. Just watch your temperatures. I would recommend eventually getting one though.

You don't need a charge pipe or intercooler upgrade for the B58 to go stage 2

It does get pretty loud if you get a downpipe and full exhaust. But with Bootmod3 you can disable the burbles in comfort and eco mode. That way you will only get them in sport and sport+. You can also customize the aggression and duration of the burbles. So you shouldn't have too much trouble with police.

If your BMW has the latest software update then the DME might be locked. Has your car had a dealer software update within the last year?

@@im7422 I don't think this issue affects mostly the newer engines. My advice is to email support for whichever tune you plan on buying and ask them about it. My DME wasn't locked so I never went through this issue. Which tune were you planning on using?

No for stage 1 you dont need any modification, and the burbles work with oem exhaust but if you go more agressive pops u should see a downpipe catless or hi flo cat

@@Ant90210 Do you have the stock non M sport muffler? I recommend a sport exhaust if you want nice sound. My brother is running a catless DP with stock muffler on his e92 335i and it just doesn't sound that good without a sport muffler. Straight piping would help if you're okay with a really loud car. But I still think it sounds better with a nice exhaust system. You could look into the VRSF exhaust if you don't wanna spend a lot. Or buy a used one.

NW Auto I’m not sure the charge pipes are necessary tbh. My friends and I all have N55’s BM3 stage one on stock pipes and it’s given us no issues. We’ve had it done for about 1 year & 1/2

@@wesammmm5432 Yeah I have a friend running JB4 stage 2 with stock charge pipe and no issues. But I've also seen people on the forums post about it cracking while the car wasn't even tuned. I just ended up changing it to be safe.

You have a bad experience with one? My 335i has had an aftermarket intake for nearly 3 years with no issues. The car breaths better with it.

@@NWAuto from what I am told by a majority, dont mean to down anyone with an intake on an f30 its mostly opinion and word of mouth, the stock intake on an f30 is pretty much the best for it in terms of performance unless u go for a very fat intake or a specialty one.
