I saw Bootsys Rubberband at Summerfest in Milwaukee back in 1977. I was 13. I thought I had great seats until the concert started and everyone stood up. Couldn't see a damn thing. But this nice guy put me on his shoulders and I had a ball. What an experience. Will never forget that show.
Oh n u can hear James Brown concept that Bootsy displays on stage when he's holding a Beat wit his Right Foot. Man when Bootsy came to George... that's when Parliament/ Funkadelic really really took off!!! When George started doing Character's like Dr. Funkenstien, Sir Noes. Mr. Wiggles. Brides of Funkenstien. Star Child. Dig??? Bootsy is the REAL GENIUS in the Group.
No George Clinton is the real genius he created the image the marketing the promotion the stage production the album art .all of the characters as u remember when Collins left james Brown he came to work for Clinton not the other way around so don't get it twisted
Maaaaan Peanut & Bone's harmony was EPIC... 1st saw Bootsy & The Rubberband along with the rest of the FUNK MOB BACK IN 1977 @ The Ampatheater in Chicago ...Then again 1978 @ the FUNKFEST @ SOLDIERS Field...Was almost EXACTLY like this show...🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
I saw Bootsy at the old Bulls Chicago Stadium in 1978. I can remember at 13 when my sister and step-sister surprised me. They were always surprising me by taking me to a P-Funk concert. The Funk Festival was the biggest surprise. I still have my tickets to my 1st Bootsy tour, my 1st P-Funk tour, and the Funk Festival Tour. I had no idea that they were taking me to see Bootsy until we pulled to the stadium and saw the marque advertising Bootsy’s Rubber Band - Player of the Year live. I had asthma so guess what, I had a light asthma attack. They were gonna take me home but knowing that the attack went away. 😅 Just like this video, the sound was on point. I had no idea this concert was posted until now. The only thing different is that Boosty was the headliner at the Chicago Stadium concert. I believe the tour was the Player of the Year tour. Mudbone voice blew my mind. He and Robert sounded just like the album but better live. Thank You for this post. Seeing these concerts lets me know that I had a great childhood.
Man not just killing the bass but fronting a band - amazing to be able do this! And this show was followed by the incredible performance of Parliament Funkadelic - had to be unreal
If I could go back in time and see any concert, this may very well be the one. These badasses and all the other co-bills that night must have been nothing short of legendary!
Yo this was 1976.. now u can hear the correct music of The Brides of Funkenstien's " Disco To Go " which came out in 1978. Oh n Bootsy wrote that 4 them.
Maceo ( Pass the Peas ) Parker was the Ultimate Hype Man. Not to mention that this is a Funk odesey on Acid if nothing else and I’m convinced that no other band nor musicians on earth could this shit off like these cats.
I wish I had a Time Machine.. I would love see live..The energy of this show would be so amazing.. I born in the year this show was made..Man..Bootsy is a legend so much positivity and passion in his music.. This music is so beautiful
The last of the last funkyman, funkateer, funk artisan, whatever the name, you give to this legendary musician, who's gonna release his next album on October. I saw him, and his band : the Funk Unit, 10 years ago, it was so great !!!
I've never been truly on board with the seemingly obligatory audience participation angle... True talent doesn't require props and BRB had it in spades. Let the crowd go wild naturally.
Clearly you don't understand that by getting the audience involved gives the artist a greater energy and he gives that energy right back in the form of a greater, energized performance. But if you've never been on stage performing you wouldn't understand it. Peace.
Aw stop they were all in it together thats why they recorded and wrote together and frickin toured together and in the rock and roll hall of fame together
HUH?? The ParliaFunkadelic Thang didn't take off until Bootsy came on board & brought "the one" formula he got from James Brown with him. He was the a missing piece that George needed. Bootsy changed the direction of the group for the better. I give George for allowing Bootsy to do his own thang. He knew Bootsy was dynamic to just be a side man in the group. Bootsy wouldn't have been given the same opportunity with his former boss the GOS.
