Borderlands 1 Is Better Than Borderlands 3 

I really liked BL2 but the thing that BL1 had that the rest didn't was seeing an enemy hold a legendary, them shooting you with it and then knowing that when you took them down you'd get it. One of my favorite moments in BL1 was taking cover and seeing electric shots bouncing around me, and going "is he using an Orion?" Sure enough, after killing the super badass crimson lance dude he dropped it. The world drop system in BL1 was also the objectively best one, the map wasn't absolutely covered with legendaries after clearing a map like in BL3 but it wasn't like finding a shiny pokemon with it's abysmally small 1 - 3000 odds like in BL2, like what were they thinking? That sounds like Pearl drop rates NOT legendary drop rates.

Another point, Bl1’s gameplay is so much more soothing to the eyes to watch than bl3. Bl3 has flashing colours everywhere and makes me feel like I’m bout to have a seizure.

I remember seeing a challenge run for BL3 where a guy lucked out, and found a Chubby Skag. he killed it, and it dropped a level 1 Quasar. thing is, the Quasar spawned with no element because it spawned at level 1, which made it literally unusable. that's BL3 in a nutshell for me. you get the instant dopamine rush, but once it wears off, you realize that it isn't worth sticking around for.

Makes sense. Bd 1 was a work of art. Every map, gun, creature has that fine detail in Everything. Bd 3 is rushed. Stages are lack luster. Feels gimmicky. Bd 1 makes me a participant in a treasure hunt. Bd 3 makes me a spectator in a...a....what are we doing in it again?

Another important reason: annoying characters don't wear out their welcome

Never played bl1 for the endgame, but the crude and simple but eerie atmosphere of desolate alien wastelands for me is so much like... home idk.

And don't forget the ambiance of bl1.... the music and sounds just kind of take you there ❤

Things I love about Borderlands 1: -The gun sounds -The scaling. Nothing too high, and no ridiculous HP multipliers like in UVHM or Mayhem levels -S&S Munitions! -Weapon proficiencies -Decent vendors -Actually having a good amount of backpack space -Small achievements to gain XP from -Elements are satisfying to use (seriously, kill human enemies with shock DoT) -Enemies dropping weapons they use. I wonder why they got rid of that for most enemies in more recent Borderlands games -Enemies drop a fair amount of XP (especially bosses and guardians) Things I didn't like about Borderlands (some of these are nitpicky, as they don't affect gameplay much): -Fast travel being available late, and DLCs having no fast travel to their other locations. The Knoxx DLC's side missions and farming are a pain to do because of this. -Knoxx DLC class mods being as rare as pearlescents anywhere outside of Truxican Wrestlers/Devastators/Assassins (already rare enemies) and Circle of Duty (which is in the Sunken Sea, about 4000m away from T-Bone Junction). -Class mods in general. Just because a class mod is purple doesn't mean it's coming with +3 on two skills and +4 on another with a secondary effect (which makes the Knoxx COMs even more annoying to farm). At least they don't roll like Bl3 class mods. -No dedicated drops for legendary weapons -Like class mods, parts matter, and they matter more than in any other game. Instead of parts that trade some stats for others, there are parts that are just better than others in every way, and you can miss out on a lot of DPS because of that. Since legendary weapons don't dictate material grade, you can get something like a Skullmasher (a legendary rarer than most other legendary weapons) with the material of a green rarity Jakobs sniper. -Unique/legendary weapon parts aren't noticable outside of their color beam. A good example of this being that the scope that makes the cyclops has the same model as scope_5 seen on other Atlas snipers. Only a few have skins to separate them from the rest. -The music. It fits the game, but they don't sound that different to me. The other games (especially 3) has much better music in my opinion. -Badass bruisers. Why? -"Hello traveler, there are new missions available in the [location name] bounty board!" or something along those lines. -Weapons don't feel that much different from each other. The only ones that stick out are Hyperion (accuracy and recoil reduction), Maliwan (always elemental), Tediore (fast reload), and S&S (high magazine size). Jakobs does barely more damage than others, Torgue and Dahl are just there, Atlas doesn't seem any more effective, and Vladof doesn't seem any faster than others (and weirdly enough, their snipers are pump action, so they're slower than the snipers from Hyperion, S&S, Dahl, and Torgue) -Some enemies only appearing once per playthrough -Rocket launchers are janky AF -Eridian weapons. They're a great idea, just executed horribly.

Borderlands 1 and 2 are still the best games 🙏🏽(Still playing both of them btw)

BL3 breaks the continuity that was there between 1 & 2 like not just breaks it , shits on it and sets it on fire and jumps on it to put it out . Never heard anyone say oh i wish my BL chars could slide around at a billion miles an hour . I want to fight chonky dangerous enemies who'l absolutely shred me if i don't dip in an out of cover in the endgame to defeat like in the first 2 games .

Borderlands 1, for me, is art. As an artist, I'm naturally drawn to it. I understand why some people, who might be less interested in art, might enjoy Borderlands 3 more. However, aside from the artistic aspect, I feel there are many issues with Borderlands 3. For instance, legendaries are too common and ordinary. While some people prefer to have great gear right away, there should be a reward for effort beyond just efficiently dispatching bosses. Finding legendaries or farming for them should be part of that reward.

i just hate how BL3 makes legendaries the new common. id walk away from every encounter with MINIMUM 5 legendaries. the thing I love most about BL1 is the atmosphere, its a world that takes itself seriously and everyone's not shouting pop culture references every 2 seconds and the written text for quests are a MAJOR tone shift compared to BL2-3. BL3 is better is one aspect and that is weapon sound design, each manufacturer has its own sound palette and they are all distinct and memorable.

BL1 feels like a real place that i want desperately to go to. I think it helps that they were originally going to make a game with more realistic graphics but due to conflicts, they made it slightly more cartoon looking. Oh and DAMN that acoustic music cant be beat period

Bl1 is goated for the first installment into a busy time for gaming. It shined in a time when games were popping up every week same with bl2 ofc, but borderlands 3 left so much to desire. It was too easy in every aspect and getting legendaries goes from fun surprise to not even valuable in about an hour of gameplay. Btw love you hellfire almost as much as I love using bl1 hellfire on lilith :D.

Bl1 is good if you started from it. I started playing from bl2 than bl3 so for me bl1 was not fun after playing bl2. But comparing bl1 and bl2 they let you do stuff while bl3 you listen Ellie and Lilith talk for 30min straight.

played bl3 through twice. currently on yet another bl1 playthrough.

Have had a ton of memories in BL1, as me and an old friend of mine could couch co-op this back on 360 and just do everything. Other than some dated issues, BL1 just does everything better than BL3 and is leagues more playable without overly annoying characters.

I will say, the guns in Borderlands 3 feel MUCH better than the first game. You can tell them apart by sound only, many of them feel super satisfying and different to use too. (I love BL3’s DAHL guns) I’ll also say that skill trees feel really weird in BL3 due to some powerful skills being at the top of the tree so it doesn’t feel like you’re going from relatively weak/simple skills to really powerful ones by the end of the tree.

I don't really NEED to make a comment, because I think in the past I've said pretty much everything you said here, but firstly, channel engagement, you deserve more views and subscribers. Secondly, I feel like BL1's characters that were intentionally annoying never got too intrusive. They never shoehorned in anyone who was made to be annoying. Hell, I think Claptrap was the only "annoying" character in 1. Claptrap in 1 was FUNNY. Because he wasn't written as "make sure he talks too much and acts annoying.". BL1's writing was serious. For the most part. It had its jokes, but they didn't interrupt the story. Unlike..... You know.... Tyreen constantly mirroring internet culture from 5 years ago - which has probably dated horribly. Also 1 didn't have TIny Tina, Handsome Jack, Ava, or new Claptrap, so it's autometically superior. And don't even get me started on all the trash from New Tales.

I dont feel quite as weird now. I was late to the party. Found borderlands 1 about 8 years ago. Between 1, 2 and sequel i have just rotated between those games. Beat BL3 but never played again. Dont really like it. Still my fav way to play bl1 is do every single mission 1st playthru. Race thru 2nd to beat game then everything is hard and fun. Now trying to do everything with all characters in bl2 and i see that will fill up the next decade hahahaha

It takes me too long to get into BL3, every time i boot it up i question why. The boot up and loading screens take decades, the story and characters are bad, legendaries are way too common even without luck modifiers and the game is just way too easy, They ruined Pandora. However if I'm honest my biggest turn off is that it's just a different engine to BL2. When I boot up BL1, I'm like "Let's go!" Its just better in every way imo and i can easily replay it having no regrets.

Don't forget the fact that we have so many garbage legendary weapons and gear in BL3 because they only exist to be a reference. It's like someone at Gesrbox was like, 'the players love the references, we need more'. Then we end up with guns like the Long Musket. One of the worst weapons in the game, and we get fucked out of peals. Because according to Randy Pitchferd, they would to have cut and enter manufacturer out to put peals In. No how about you cut the 20+ shit legendaries that no one asked for. It's one of the reasons people complain about how easy legendaries are to get. Yeah they are easy. But most of them suck and are just a shitty reference that most people don't get.

I've never played borderlands 1 but ive played every other one. After watching this, im gonna pick it up and try it out!

I actually prefer the story more in the first game. The characters aren’t annoying. Not every story has to perfectly explain everything.

There are many improvements I liked (in isolation) in bl3 but the truth is I find myself desiring to start a new bl1 playthrough over a bl3 one. I just feel more visceral satisfaction with the first game. The third one feels like a lot of things I have to do in the way of what I want to do.

BL3 is just way too easy.. after recently replaying BL1 and maxing all vault hunters I can confidently say it was a more painful time due to the shields in BL1 not being able to do 100+ things

Borderlands 1 was Fallout 3 + Diablo. Post Apoc Art Design & Vat's head explosions mixed with phat loot. Great Stuff! Also, Borderlands minimalist writing wasn't total cringe.

While i like 3, there are things 1 just does better, atmosphere, story, difficulty. But i do think bl3 has better gameplay as far as options in what you can do. Imagune if they made bl1 and bl2 with bl3's qol and general gameplay. That would sell well

My favorite borderlands games are 1 and the pre sequel so I totally agree with you here.

i think outside of the main story I really enjoy bl3 yh obv its got problems like anointments but that feeling of being op asf is what makes the game so enjoyable and its still really hard when it needs to be but thats just me.

I did 2 playthroughs of BL2 and didn't finish BL3. Afterwards I completed BL1 and the better DLCs several times, way more relaxing due to the atmosphere. BL1 taught me the value of getting critical hits, logistics, strategy, and tactics. I came back to BL2 a much better player. I don't like the splashy colors as much, but it's not the blinding crap that BL3 is, except for certain locations/situations.

Straight facts. I was super hyped for bl3 but after my first playthrou went straight back to bl1 and 2. Just modernising the gameplay doesnt make it automaticly better. I rly hope they get their shit right for bl4 or else the francise probably will die 😢

I agree. The story pacing in BL1 isn't even all that good compared to 2 but both blow 3 out of the water. I sometimes refer to BL3's story as a visual novel. It's closer to watching a movie than playing a game. And I'm not a fan of rewatching most movies even if they were pretty good. I think it is important to distinguish between combat and gunplay. For me, gunplay is just how the guns feel/sound/look. The combat is the actual gameplay loop when fighting. BL1 and 3 both have very simple combat loops. BL2's had a bit more detail with slagging and healing in the mix. But gunplay wise I'll take 1 over 3 any day. Totally agree that many of the guns feel like a halo or destiny style more than the classical realistic weapon design in the first game. Though shoutout to Jakobs in BL3. They look, usually sound, and feel great to use. Looting is a tricky one. BL2 has my fav loot system of the series and I much prefer set drops to a primarily world drop based system. But i also think BL1 lucked out with abt the best balance you could hope for on a primarily world drop system. Bl3's system is closer to 2, but the more frequent crowded loot pools annoys me. So it is hard to compare the 2 directly. But parts wise, I'll again take the BL1 system over 3. BL1's part system might just be my fav in the series. I think simplifying it for BL2 was a good call, but in BL1 the only endgame is chasing gear upgrades and I think BL1's system is best for keeping that interesting. BL3 frontloaded all the importance on to a single part and overcrowded the options for it to roll. I sometimes ask ppl if they'd enjoy if matching grip was say a 2% roll and you could reroll it for eridium at Crazy Earl's. Who wants to currency farm in addition to regular farming for every gun you chase? Certainly not me. Lastly skill trees. Both have their drawbacks and advantages. BL1's is very simple and most the skills aren't that interesting but a few were kinda iconic and reimagined in BL2. I felt like 2 and later Krieg and TPS were a step in the right direction to making them more interesting and varying the combat approach based on your build. My biggest complaints with 3's system are that the chars having multiple action skills makes them feel less recognizable by their special ability and that there's just an overabundance of choices. I totally understand complaints that in 2, you basically have 1 or 2 skill tree builds and largely it is just to swap back and forth between a few skills even if you have 2 builds. But in BL3 I want like 90% of the skills and can only get like 20%. Just jarring compared to prior games where by the end you could get most of what you want. The 2 are so different though its hard for me to pick which I'd rather have on the whole.

Nine toes and his 3 balls, I remember a few from 2 and Pre-sequel but I can’t remember a single one from 3. Nothing comes close to Nine toes and his 3 balls or Sledge and that you aren’t friends with him

To a certain point i agree but all Borderlands games can be enjoyed.

I do love in the original borderlands that the assault rifles were very much assault rifles back then. They were the overall best thing in the game. When you are shooting in the open areas, there are much more mobile then long rifles and they just hit more effectively. Then any pistol or sub-machine-gun sub machine guns and pistols, on the other hand are just way more mobile and Maneuverable when you're in somewhere indoors Which brings up the separate topic on why?I love the guns and borderlands too.And why it's the history's world's greatest game known tall man.And that is because the entire d*** thing is bat-Shit Insane off the walls balls to the wall bonkers So nothing makes sense

Borderlands 1 had the best vibes of an post apocalyptic world in my opinion. Borderlands 2 had the most and best gameplay. Presequal had the best story. Borderlands 3 is just gameplay mechanics. Wonderlands.. I played the story. That's all. Never replayed it again.

You're absolutely correct, while there are aspects of Borderlands 3 that I like, mostly simple game play mechanic improvements that were long overdue, and the game is stunning looking despite the comic book art style, there were a lot of things that bugged me about it, firstly I hate pc culture and wokeness so when I found out that the midgets had been renamed as tinks to not be offensive, all of whom kinda looked like a mini Trevor Phillips that bugged me, most of the guns are crap, far too easy to get gold tier weapons, I mean there was a period of a few months just after release when they were popping out of every conceivable loot source, far too many ammo chests, there's more ammo chests and lockers inside a small room than in an entire map in Borderlands 1, I liked 2 of the vault hunters but the other 2 I wasn't fussed on, I didn't hate Tyreen and considering it was the voice actors first real role she did it very well, but Troy bugged me for some reason that I've never quite figured out, maybe he was just written badly or they chose the wrong actor for the role. I could go on but it's turning into a rant and even that bugs the shit out of me.

I bought BL2 in 2014, THEN I bought BL1 in 2015. I bought BL3 on the very day it was released in 2019. Indeed, sir, BL1 is infinitely better than BL3. PS: I will NEVER buy BL4, I am done with this franchise! Have yourself an excellent day!

I played through bl1 with every character, through bl2 with every character twice, through the pre sequel with 3 characters, and through bl3 once with the only character I didn't despise. BL1 has the best look as far as crap on the screen goes. By BL3 it's just a mess of effects and blooms. The character movement and gun mechanics were overall superior in 3, but soulless. With the annoying characters and dumpster story the desire for replaying was gone. None of my crew even thought about getting wonderlands after the disaster that was 3. We gave them another chance after the massive disappointment that was the pre sequel, and won't again.

Unrelated comment .. Half-Life 3 .. looking at the 3's that came out over the last view years... BL3, Diabl3 and now 4 .. the 3rd Fallout made by Bethesda .. ( add examples if you like ) Prince of Persia 3 and everything that came after None of them were good .. So Valve is doing the right thing. Just Don't .. do something new, do something good.

i agree, as i played 100% bl1 and then bl3 immediatly after and i played both before but then it dawned on my that its just better i could actually finish the first game without being bored bl3 keeps you fking prisoner sure endgame is a decent bit worse in bl1 it however has better shit to farm for also when i played bl1 my first legendary was at lvl 24 and the next 35+ in bl3 my first legendary was lvl2, my second lvl3 then i got 6 of them at lvl 7 i steamrolled bl3 until i simply ran out of steam for the game, cuz dear christ the story is such a slog and weapon generation is way better in bl1 it just is somehow the system gets worse from game to game because gbx keeps limiting it down since bl3 we have several guns that are 100% fixed and even added fixed guns to bl1 afterwards pathetic

I love BL3 and I’m still playing it. BL1 is nice but extremely outdated, BL2 has an incredible story but is outdated as hell and the gameplay is nowhere as good as BL3. BL3s only downside is the storyline of the base game, the expansions are fking awesome!
