My mom had BPD. She was an increibly loving and caring person but she would lash out on those she loved. She never lashed out on me because I understood her and we were really close but I've seen (emails) and heard some of hte stuff that she's said to others and it's like looking at a completely different person.

@angelinag4116
@angelinag4116 7 месяцев назад
BPD is post-traumatic stress syndrome following narcissistic abuse (usually from growing up in a narcissistic household or after being married to a narcissist). I don't know what the stigma might be? Why does society not care who narcissists are? A covert narcissist is a true psychopath at his core. But nobody cares. People are stupid.

Then after you've ruined so many romantic relationships you don't even want to try again because the pain just isn't worth it. This leads to the absolutely devastating loneliness.

She ended up giving up all together and became a recluse. She ran away from our family to FL and lived out of her mind for 10-15 years before realizing she had end stage cancer and died at alone at home in hospice care. I did what I could for her and it was extremely hard to watch. I wish you the very best and hope you can find meds that will work. Just don’t give up like my mom did. (Florida resident) My ex partner was baker acted and taken to the “hospital” by police. When I called them the next morning I was told “The doctor will be in on Monday and then you can talk to them about a possible release date.” He had a learning disability and I was terrified of them sticking a pen and paper infront of him for voluntary 6 month hospitalization. I called everyday letting them know that his “72hour wait” ended on Tuesday morning and he will be released then. They tried many times to manipulate the situation with iffy wording like “we’ll see,” and “soon.” I myself have been voluntarily baker acted when I was a minor, was escorted to hospital by parent. I was given a cocktail of different medications to try, some almost caused severe symptoms like passing out/vomiting profusely. There is a huge problem with money hungry psychiatrist and “hospitals” 4:44

It’s a disaster everywhere in this country though. In CA we don’t have a “baker act”, but the Los Angeles county jail is known locally as the largest psych hospital in the state. Our jails and prisons here are packed with mentally ill and developmentally disabled people. And as for being restrained and injected with sedatives against your will, it’s exactly the same in CA. In the hospital it’s called a “Dr strong” and happens every single day.

When she was talking about people with mental illness being failed I felt that. Especially those of us with Borderline Personality Disorder. I got diagnosed in 2019 and I live in East Tennessee, finding a therapist who is qualified or willing to work with a person who has BPD is nearly impossible. On top of that, there are no medications that are FDA approved to treat a personality disorder. I do my best to handle it but i’m 38 years old and I’ve had over 120 jobs since I graduated high school because of my paranoia, I think everyone there hates me or I have issues interacting normally with people or I get into an argument with someone. Sometimes I have bad splitting episodes and I will destroy things in my house and cut or stab my arm with knives. I have issues with binge eating and reckless spending. BPD is the most painful, isolating thing you can live with. Even someone canceling plans with me or not texting me back feels like someone died, I will literally grieve for days and I can go from adoring someone to hating their guts and everyone associated with them in a split second. I feel every emotion times 1,000. My husband is my FP and he has been a saint dealing with this. There’s a reason why so many borderlines have at least one SA, it’s because we feel so alone like no one can understand us or help.

Guess what. I have bpd, psychiatrics are handing it out like hot cakes and its having a huge negative effect on society. Maybe BPD is real, it feels real doesnt it? But look what it does to you, youre so pathetically sorry for yourself and you think a pill will save you? You want a pill to define who you are the rest your life? Either way, that's impossible. Your faith in that pill will be what defines you. Not the pill. Instead of relying on a pill, i suggest to try and heal on your own. Go against the stream and find a path that doesnt make u so miserable. Somthing brings you comfort, pleasure and joy. With all the jobs youve lost and the realtionships that have been destroyed, youve probably buried all your hapiness under such negative weight and thinking. Being bpd doesnt mean hopless and doomed to fail. people are too quick to feel sorry for themselves. It seems impossible cus facing reality is hard and straight up terrifying. But letting go of the pills, the labels, the abuse and trauma, and figuring out what your issue is and why youre hating yourself and holding grudges. Your life is comprehended through your own lense, not anyone elses. No one see's life the way you do. The brain is so complex, dont let bpd be the thing to inhibit you from growing. You, just like EVERYONE ELSE will die and we dont know where were going. We like to imagine things, but thats by faith. The reality is nobody knows, not even science, so why not just make it worth while and try to discover meaning yourself, and not through the lense of a pill that will masks your unique understanding on life? You have BPD, own it, get to know it, why are you so afraid of it? your abuser cant give your innocence back. There's no sense in dwelling on it. But if pills havent worked for you try somthing else

A lot of therapist don’t really like diagnosing patients with BPD because the symptoms are so similar to Bipolar Disorder. I got diagnosed last year and have been taking Lamictal. I feel like its has been working at first, but now I still have symptoms, so I asked my doctor to increase my dosage soon. It has been so hard to manage a relationship with friends and family. My husband refuses to give on me and always tell me that I don’t have to apologize. I have emotionally abused him and have episodes where I even hit him. My episodes usually last between 2-7 days. Depending on the situation, my favorite person will come and go. When I’m anxious, I will buy things without thinking or make plans that I end up regretting later. Rejection and minor misunderstandings will trigger me into an explosive episode. I absolutely hate misplacing things and will go off like it is the end of the world. When my episodes are over, I feel like a bad person and that I don’t deserve to be in other people’s life’s. I am too afraid to hurt myself and think about how my children would feel if I did. I pray that one day I can be normal, whether on meds or off of them.

Brianna, Your resilience is astounding 😳 You are an amazing human. I live in FL (Ormond Beach) and I wish I could treat you! I am a year away from obtaining my PhD in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in forensic psychology. One of my practicum rounds was in a state hospital so I understand your concerns about the treatment of residents and where your future goals are headed. Your auditory hallucinations (hearing voices at work - Symptoms of Schizoaffective (instead of saying you have Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, and bipolar b/c Schizophrenia + Bipolar = Schizoaffective, you can just say “Schizoaffective” if you want ❤️) can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The gold standard therapy for BPD is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). This will help with regulating emotions, changing unproductive emotions, creating positive emotions, and so much more. Finding a therapist (we ALL need one - I have one): 1. Check with your insurance. Get a list of people in your area. SHOULD BE SOMEONE WITH A PSYD OR A PHD. Not to an A-hole, but masters level individuals are not equipped for your level of awesomeness 💫 2. Read the bios and see if you think you can build a therapeutic rapport with this person. 3. Do they know about CBT, DBT, or other therapies that interest you? 4. Anything else you can think of. You are interviewing them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Good luck to you ❤❤❤

A lot, but not even close to all. I recommend reading Dr. Hare's book about psychopathy/ASPD "Without Conscience etc" Plenty of cases in there of ASPD/psychopaths who didn't experience any significant emotional trauma, abuse, or the like. Fascinatingly, there is a case in there of identical twin girls with a loving home life, one twin was clearly psychopathic and the other twin clearly was very non psychopathic. It may be hard to accept, but some people just come in, for a lack of a better term, evil. This only really relates to psychopathy though. But yes, a lot of people with NPD, BPD, and the like tend to have gone through major trauma, especially during childhood.

I have borderline and ptsd and am in a stable relationship for almost 8 years, a job, a home, and a family. I have been (and currently am) in therapy for many, many years, and I will always continue to better myself. I often don't talk about it because people often assume the worst. Meanwhile, I have good, solid friendships for 10+ years and longer. Have I made mistakes? Yes, absolutely. Did I learn from them? Yes, absolutely. I will always continue to better myself and do my best for my loved ones. Please be aware that we come in different ways and different levels.. not every person with BPD will be dishonest, manipulative, etc. We are human as well. If you have BPD, get that help if you can, learn about yourself, and find your good and bad sides. Teach yourself how to control it and deal with it. BPD is painful, it's rough, and you will take it to the grave, but you can grow old with it and have a life with it.

My ex-wife has borderline personality disorder, but has refused to acknowledge (blames others, justifies her behaviour, etc.). She had a traumatic upbringing and it definitely negatively impacted her ability to be in stable relationships. After many years of chaos and uncertainty our relationship finally imploded. I honestly tried……. In retrospect I wish I knew more about this debilitating issue back then. I don’t think it would have changed the eventual relationship outcome, but it would have made my understanding better and increased my sympathy towards her. The human mind is so fragile….😢

I hope Brianna keeps seeking until she finds her own solutions. She has creative abilities that I hope she will pursue. May God bless her and guide her. Thank you, Mark, for showing how mental health issues are prevalent and we have to accept and help those who truly need compassion and not judgment. Sometimes people give up on you -- that's because they don't understand you. You're bright and intelligent and you can make a difference, especially helping others who experience the disorders you do. It’s so disappointing how the stigma still exists even with mental health professionals… Yes, they have a textbook and clinical understanding but they will never truly understand what it’s like without having experienced it themselves. The best psychologist I ever had was someone with lived experience of mental illness. I wish there were more like her.

It should be said that people who suffer from BPD also have high rates of perpetrating abuse in intimate relationships. I was seriously abused in an almost 10 year long relationship with a woman who had BPD. The abuse was physical, emotional, verbal, consistent and systematic, and highly manipulative. The experience inspired me to become a psychologist. I have great empathy for those who suffer from mental illness but folks with BPD are still hard for me to work with and even talk to.

Her desire to advocate reform in the mental health system or at least highlight the lack of care is commendable. Mark I do hope you / we can help facilitate that somehow. Thank you for sharing beautiful soul. ❤ Your mental health journey reminds me of my own in some respects. My mental health struggles when I was your age were almost unbearable. I have bipolar 1, CPTSD and borderline traits but I didn’t know it back then. My depression was so bad it felt like my brain was actively atrophying. Now I’m 40, married with kids and have a stable life and a good psychiatrist and good med combo and I’m gong to graduate college soon. I also have physical illnesses that complicate things but they’re well managed. Most days I don’t even feel like I have a mental illness. I never could have imagined how much better I feel now. I’m just saying that to let you and others know it’s possible to feel worlds better, better than you can imagine when you are in that dark place. Glad to see you are on a good path and your mindset is right. You are doing good things and will do great things that help others in big ways, I can tell. ❤

Her story hits hard because this is happening across the country. We are 100% in a mental health crisis. Much of our societies struggles with violence and drug addiction are symptoms of mental health troubles. If we had more affordable housing and better healthcare and educational systems, it would dramatically improve everyone’s quality of life. Unfortunately, our country makes a financial killing off of the struggles of its people.
