How does it work with the F1 cars? Do they pick the most recent one they have scanned?

@@QuimFreecss At the moment it’s the W13 from 22. I was hoping they’d bring the W12 back for this season as it only ran for a year and was comparatively popular. None of the other F1 cars have been retired (legacy content) so there’s a chance any one of them (albeit slim) could come back. Williams FW31 (2009), McLaren MP4/30 (2015 and arguably the best FFB of them all) and the fan favourite/ fastest circuit car on iRacing; the Mercedes W12. Short answer; it seems to be whatever the newest one is 😅 All of them are available for AI races.

Super Formula Lights uses the Dallara 324 car, which is an update of the Dallara 320 car used in Euroformula Open, so not exactly the same car, but almost. Super Formula 23 is indeed quicker than F2.

As someone coming from F1 games (although I played only single player, haven't played multiplayer due to chaos and carnage from immature players) I agree the bad F1 players are giving normal players a bad name. It's really frustrating that you're placed into one bag with players like that. I try my absolute best to race as clean as possible, of course mistakes happen especially if you're just starting (been playing iracing for less than 2 months, so still fresh) and still get toxic comments like: go back to playing shity forza, leave the game for professional players, we don't want you here. I actually had a situation yesterday, during a practice session they were chatting a lot, someone said that they enjoy F1 and GT7 games as well as iracing. I commented on that saying that I really enjoy both titles as well. Man, the unpleasant comments and overall reaction from others in the game towards the person and myself was really off putting and kind of ruined my evening for me. Of course I'm not speaking about every iracing players. I have met some fantastic people that would share their builds, wheelbase settings, provide tips and even had a guy in practice session drive in front of me for 15 laps for me to learn the braking points of a track when he saw me struggling with them. There are amazing and really bad players in both games.

You’re generalizing entire F1 game community player based on 1 dirty 8yo. You think you guys are the cleanest drivers? You guys never play dirty. The fact is, there will be bad apples in every aspect of life. I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just pointing the obvious

Cute liveries are hardly a replacement when sacrificing multiplayer quality.

Just start from the pits for a few races to break the rookie curse. It will hurt your iR but once out of rookies you can then refocus on your iR again.

Don’t worry about getting out of rookies fast, it’s called rookies for a reason. And I’m aware not everyone is willing to do this, but I wake up at five AM every morning to make time to practice before I start work at 7:30 or start my day with my family. I usually practice early morning and race some evenings but I’m really anal about my driving standards and spend way too much time in private practice and not enough racing. Getting out of Rookies is a good thing, so you can be placed on higher splits but don’t worry about rushing it. The MX5, Formula Ray and Vee, all teach you how to control a car on the limit much easier than their higher classed counterparts. The more time you spend practicing these cars, the less time you’ll need in the faster ones. Consistency comes by forcing yourself to drive slow enough for your current ability. If you’re regularly going off track or making mistakes, you’re going too fast. Forget racing and work on decent practice. If staying on track means going ten seconds slower a lap, do it, force yourself to be clean by going slow. You will improve A WHOLE LOT FASTER by going slow. It will also, highlight to you the mistakes you make and will make how fast you can take a corner a lot easier to gauge. Don’t feel like being in Rookie class is a bad thing because you’ll soon discover A-Class can quite easily mean Rookie. Don’t aim to be the fastest, aim to be the best and the speed will come.

It is sad, but I honestly think it’s more the car than the series itself. When the W12 was being used, participation wasn’t fantastic but you could race it every day. The W13 is an entirely different car, and harder to drive in some ways and people just don’t have the patience to stick to it. I’ve heard people say the W13 is rubbish, it’s not at all, neither’s the IR-01, but again, it’s hard to drive so people don’t stick with it. I don’t believe there’s a single bad car on iRacing (imo) and I can’t stand it when RU-vidrs say “don’t buy this car, because people don’t race it” which just exasperates the problem. Anyway, I agree, it is sad, it sucks, the W13 is great to drive!

Its a huge difference. Official F1 games are more focused on gimmicks but due to licensing stay current with the F1 as a sport. The downside is that to be current, they will release new one every year, with minimum upgrades. iRacing is more geared towards hard core sim racers and puts the emphasis on tracks and physics in order to simulate racing as best as possible. Learning curve for F1 game is not very steep and helps you jump in and drive with plenty of aids. iRacing requires commitment and lots of practice to stay on track let alone be competitive. It is hard, very hard, and the learning gets even steeper as you try to gain the last second of lap time The biggest advantage for iRacing is that its content spans across a huge variety of racing series so you are not limited to just F1 for example. There is a very good reason real world drivers mainly choose iRacing and why in reality, their talent perfectly translates to iRacing. Hope this helps.

Lol his reply does sound straight from iRacing's marketing department, but it's correct though. Also, the quality of racing in iRacing is unmatched by any other racing title.

Quite a silly take. How do you know its the same people? Because last I checked many many MANY more people are NOT paying for all those services. And they are not ok being milked and a game trying to do the same thing. Seems to me that those that are ok with paying for something like this are the ones ok with paying for those other services. So drawing a non existent correlation is just trying to force a narrative and excuse the money you payed on a title that is not worth it. The few cases of people paying for these services and complaining about iRacing are, as I said few, and most likely are paying for those services because they are enjoying them with other people like family, partners, what not. Adding yet another cost on them for no reason at all is just sad. This game is not worth subscriptions. Not by a longshot. Its a joke. And people defending it are simply making excuses to feel better about the money they wasted on it. Each to their own, they have a right to do whatever they want and all is cool. But don't come strolling about trying to justify it. Keep it to yourself and your iracing buddies that feel the same way for wasting all that money.

You dont really buy all the tracks at once. Rokiem series take place on free tracks, and then there are 12 tracks for full season of racing.

That's probably a typo: F1 cars have 1.6L V6 24 valve hybrid engines.

and that one off investment will be around for years... unlike the 70 dollar f1 game which releases yearly and isnt even a sim.

If you can't afford it, just say that. Servers cost money, sending people around the world to scan tracks and cars cost money.

@@tylersaidgg1807 Oh trust me, I get that, but I disagree on needing it to be that bloody expensive. For the average person, thats just too much of an ask. For sim racers... Id imagine they'd preferrably want a non subscription, and as well cheaper DLC instead. If you loved it, thats great! But as of now... no way in hell is it better than just getting any other sim at a price like that. It benefits them more than the consumer, and thats just non equivalent.

iRacing is not a game, its a hobby. And its not expensive when you look at it that way. Over the last 12 years I was on iRacing, I played many games but I raced on iRacing consistently. Here’s some real numbers to help with that: over the 12 years, counting annual subscription you get with 25% discount, 16 cars and 35 tracks I bought (though didn’t need to and in reality could have done half of that easily), I spent under $1.800 in total, which is around $150 per year or less than $15 per month. I raced in many different series so needed different kind of content otherwise you can easily get under $10 per month if you focus on one area only. Average social drinker will easily go through $150 a month on drinks, for comparison. Spending is steeper at start and later it settles down to something like $5 per month. Investing in proper rig is a different matter altogether but what I found was that investment was worthwhile long-term. Initially I invested around $800 for the cockpit, wheel and pedals. 10 years in, I sold my wheel for more than I paid for it (popular wheel not available new, inflation and bigger demand played a huge role) and topped that with $200 and upgraded to direct drive base and wheel, still using the initial cockpit and pedals (load cell pedals, not too shabby). So gear was another $1000 of investment, split across 12 years, it works out to another $7 per month. In total, we are talking roughly around $22 of monthly commitment, which is insignificant comparing to other stuff we pay on a monthly basis and not enough to put a dent in any decent earning. Its not for everyone and its aimed at passionate hobby sim racers who stay on service for many many years and have no intention of quitting ;) Remember, what you are paying is a regular service in organising competition in multiple race series, across oval, dirt, sports cars, open wheel series, service of constantly updating the product as per feedback of the community and a constantly evolving product. F1 game is an eye candy that changes its wrapping and sold to you every year at the same price, with very little improvements, most of it cosmetic. There is more development in iRacing between the seasons (there are four in a year btw) than there are in F1 annual game titles. Both are good in their own right but when it comes to value for money, F1 has nothing on iRacing or other sims in this segment for that matter.

@@TheDude45 No, but their subscription model is absurdly expensive. I do believe it is possible to run iRacing via controller, I’ve seen many people use one, so I don’t think using a gamepad would affect the justification negatively too much.

Quality has its price

Maybe for some but also not really, many people have two iracing accounts or more. But to put it into perspective, with iracing you really should not try to drive everything every where. Pick one car for an entire season if not multiple season and then just a couple of tracks try to master it. Iracing is not meant for grid and go its meant for mastery. sub for 1 year, 50$ ir is 5$? , a car is 12$ and tracks are 15$, so one season with 6 tracks and 1 car is 105$ your sign up cost makes that 160$ which sure is steep but it's not more then aaa game ultimate edition. Again pick a car and a couple of tracks and master it.

@tomatesacree4795 13 weeks or 3 months, so 34$ a month and often tracks are reused... I'm not saying it isn't expensive but I don't think it's too expensive in a way you shouldn't even consider it

First impression of a game is the most important impression. I also had bad races in rookie. For now I will stick with Assetto Corsa
