Bored of Vintage 30s? Why not mix it up! V30 bottom, Creamback M65, H75 or Redback top.

Thanks for this, I have the STJames 2x12 cab with the Celestion Zephyr’s which is ok, my plan was to change out the top speaker with a Celestion Creamback M65, I play mainly heavy Rock/Blues. But I really liked the Redback

That was a really nice test, thank you for the effort! Wow! I liked the Redback here much more than in any other review I checked before. Not so surprising since I'm a Greenback person, I preferred the H75 for rhythm with humbuckers. However, I know I struggle playing H magnets, and I always end up with M magnets, compensating the high end the way I pick and use my guitar controls (that tone knob, forgotten by many). With the Strat I preferred the M65 each and every time. When I combined a V30 with a Greenback I felt more grit, and perhaps more clarity, but mids were nicer, and the top end was smoother. Kind of what I also heard in your test.

Speaker blending is fairly common, all 3 of my cabs are blended. Celestion V-30s and Greenbacks in 2 of them and Eminence Governor and Man 0' War in the third. Some commercial maufacturers do this as well, Friedman in particular.

I have a Dreamaker 2x12 wich has a v30 mixed with a celestion Hot100, combination selected by the builder, pairs up amazing!

I mix the creamback M65 with a vintage 30 . The M65 is in an open back combo and the V30 is in a closed back 1 by 12 and it sounds amazing .I love mixing M and H Speakers especially where one is in an open back and the other in a closed back with the M being in an open back setting and the H in a closed back which is kind of counter intuitive as M speakers are considered to be more effective when in a closed back cab anc the H being the better choice for an open back compared to M speakers but I like the M in an open back more when pairing with an H speaker . I pair the creanback M with various G12H30 variants as well.

The M-65 and the Redback are my favorite speakers. I like the darker sound of the M-65 and the Redback for it's brilliant lead sounds. If I could choose only one speaker I would pick the M-65...🤘😁

Redback extends the furhest into the low end and the high end, being the higher "headroom" speaker. Possibky explains why sound so good clean, but both punchier and less cohesive/musical in the midrange. Creamback H75 has the most musical and complex mids for me. Great for dirty sounds and clean stuff down the business end of the neck but maybe a bit nasal for clean stuff up high on the dusty end of the neck. Creamback M65 has a lovely warm sound that's a little lacking in power for me overall. Musical but weaker in the mids and not enough harmonic content for higher gain stuff but very intimate for at home/ smaller room stuff. Great work, lads!

Thank you for making this video! I guess I'll be writing to you soon for instructions on how to move the redbacks to the top - or can I just flip the cabs on their tops? I saw the cabs shipped yesterday! You guys are the best!

We also liked them with the V30 on top, we just felt the difference comes across more with the custom driver on the top. Turn one cab upside down and A/B to see which you prefer! There’s a video on here about how to swap drivers if you decide you want to. Thanks for ordering such great cabs!

Even as a bassist, it was fascinating to hear the comparative differences between the guitar speakers', in the same cab. Even more eye-opening is the drastic change in sound, between the single-coil & humbucker guitars' inputs. Video production note though: I still had to ride the volume controls to hear what you guys were saying, while not bursting my eardrums when either guitar was played...! Would you please re-state why the 2-different-speaker cab concept is not so suitable for bass guitar? Thanks & cheers.

I love that you are still learning. We do this stuff too, but it takes 30 minutes between each sound as we swap out speakers, and the time and the fatigue makes it a lot less precise. Now I'm curious about what the V30 is adding in those sounds. Maybe have the ability to turn the bottom V30 off/on in each cab so that difference could be evident.

Interesting. Do the AVD ports work well when the cab is that close to the rear wall? - Ah answered at 18 mins - work at 8" away - thanks!

This was great!!! Thank you. Please do more! How heavy is that redback because it is surprisingly good sounding both clean and dirty.

The Redback weighs the same as the V30. There aren’t any Celestion guitar twelves that weigh more than a V30, it’s a hefty beast!

Sometimes a light cab is best, but I know they sound different. Maybe a neodymium loaded cab vs stock V30s?

They’re all light, it’s just a question of how light!

Hi Alex, I really enjoy these videos. Only Celestions? I used Fane Studio12L and Medusa100, they are my überfavourites. Eminence and Warehousespeakers have some amazing speakers too
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio Год назад
It comes down to logistical practicalities - I think we offer a wider range of guitar drivers than any other manufacturer, and if someone wants a non-Celestion speaker we’re happy to make them an unloaded cab, with the baffle custom machined as necessary (because not all 12” drivers are the same size!) Glad you’re liking the videos!

Nice work, you guys think H75/V30 mix would work for a Bogner Shiva EL34 amp?
@rockzilla5150
@rockzilla5150 7 месяцев назад
Yes they would. Speaking from experience. V30 has a 444 bass cone and Cream75 standard 1777 cone. Both have H magnets. It's a nice combo speaking from experience but greenback m with V30 has a nicer 3D quality to it. Goodluck.

but how do they sound if you put the cabinets on a small pedestal, say 6-12" so that the bottom speaker isnt just generating sound for the floor?

Love your videos, but you need a lavaliere mic bad. I know it will add some time to production to combine the audio to the video and rode mic, but these last couple vids are almost unwatchable

@@BarefacedAudio I mostly just listen to videos anymore while working, etc. Usually with the screen off as well. That would be a great suggestion if anyone else is experiencing the same thing though and watches like a normal human being instead of what I do

Were these 8 or 16 ohms speakers, mate? I'm kind of surprised how the Redback has more bite here than the other two. My old 8 ohms Redback was a bit on the darker side...
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio Год назад
If I remember correctly they’re 16 ohm drivers wired in parallel to make 8 ohm cabs.
