Bored turtle? Today we're talking about different ways to enrich your turtle care and stimulate your turtle's activity and senses. This list includes things like feeding live food, having fish in the turtle tank, taking the turtle outside to bask, and using decorations to improve the enclosure. We've done all of these in the past and they work well. We also added two small aquarium skull decorations that she loves to push around the bottom of her tank.

I’ve been looking for ways to enrich my turtle since really the only enrichment I have for him are these colorful pebbles. This helped me a lot. Time to get Jean some decorations and a ping pong ball.

Also you can get puzzle feeder toys! My turtle doesn’t play w ping pong balls or anything like that but he loves the puzzle feeder I got for him because playing with it leads to food. I use it every couple of weeks for him.

I bought my midland painted some guppies 6 months ago for entertainment/food, and he doesn’t even mess with them. He did for a second when I first put them in there, but he couldn’t care less. There is one ghost shrimp and 4 guppies in the tank with my turtle and they all just live their separate little aquatic lives in there. The turtle does his thing, the shrimp does it’s thing and the fish do their thing and they all just leave each other alone! I’m trying ping pong balls for the first time today and he has not shown any interest in them at all. Like right now he is right in front of them and is seemingly totally oblivious! 😆🐢💕

I just redesigned my African side neck turtles tank he doesn’t like to go outside much in the grass but he likes to walk around near the rocks and stuff because that’s what he’s used to but thank you for the tips he’s been really Non-active and I redesigned his tank and I moved some things around and I took him outside and I even gave him some new food and he’s been doing really great so thanks

I made a big turtle outdoor pool from a big old plastic container. I pit a platform in the middle and live plants in it. The turtles love it.. sunbathing in the natural sun, and have lots of space to swim. Just make sure the container has smooth sides so they can't climb out and walk off... and if they are small turtles, cover the top with strong wire mesh so birds and animals can not come and eat the turtles.

And those who aren't doing it already, a cuttlebone! The ping pong thing reminded me of it. It floats around on the water, and it's great for enrichment as well as provides them healthy minerals!

Which snake are you getting? Maybe a ball pyrhon. Excited for your snake! I have a question, what to do with the water used to feed them outside the tank? What if the water level decreases since we are using tank water to feed them?

My turtle bites at the sealant in the corners of his tank.. I'm glad you made this video, I think he's just bored. He never bites off a chunk, but the little snap noise drives me bonkers 😂 My other turtle is enamored with his little tiki statue, it's really adorable, he just stares at it like he's never seen it before and has a tendency to try and.. ahem.. get freaky with it 😂

We installed a new filter in our tank and have noticed our slider playing in the water. He swims up to where the water pours into the tank and lets the water push him back under the water. Then he swims back up and does it again. Is this normal?

I bought 2 Mississippi map turtle. Had them for 6 days now. They are both 5 to 6 inches. They are not very active and hardly eat. They seem to sleep all the time. I have a 75 gallon, live feeder fish, ghost shrimp, fiddler crabs, pellet, veggies, frozen shrimp I've tried to feed.. I've seen one of them eating the frozen shrimp, but that's about it,, (and a catfish pellet).. but they sleep majority of the time. They haven't even adventure the entire tank yet.

Can someone please help me, my box turtles skin in turning white (originaly brown) and its spreading fast, I coudnt figure it out until I noticed that when it started is when my mother changed out the UV bulb for a LED bulb because the UV bulb lasts about 1 week and they are very expensive.....Is that the issue or is it something else. Please let me know asap.

Mine loves his cookie cutter. I tried rubber ducks but didn't even look at them. Cookie cutter though he loves. He will float around on it or drag it to the bottom.

With the basking you need a thermometer to get temp right. Water level depends on how big the turtle is really. If you just double the lenth of turtles shell if it was standing up in tank is a good start.

I put a ping pong ball in with my red eared slider terrapin and he just ignores it, but I leave it in his tank as a "familiar" item hoping that he might eventually notice and interact with it. Like a normal terrapin, he is a landscaper by trade- now if I could just teach him how to mow the grass. Trying to figure out how to "play" with my little guy but he doesn't seem to want to play, but he likes running back and forth on my bed.

I put 30 minnows into a 160 gallon tank with my 6 inch red eared slider and she ate all but 7 and sence then she has been fine no problem. And she also befrended the last 7 minnows so i cant say annything about feeding minnows but i can say that it should not be a evry feeding thing their should ve a variety of food like pellets cockroaches and worms

I was wondering if you had any ideas for getting turtles to become for friendly and used to humans. I volunteer for an animal room at a local college and some of the turtles there don't really like humans at all. I can't spend a ton of time there but I wanna see if I can do something. The way that I did it with my turtle is to hand feed it. Once you get it to eat out of your hands and it realizes that you are giving it food it's pretty simple. The more often you do it, the more responsive they will be. Be patient though, it takes some time -- especially if they're the sketchy type.

I'm not able to play with my turtle because of busy schedules. I don't want the rest of his days to be sitting in a small tank, so i'm buying him a larger tank and some toys today. I'm hoping this works. Also do you have more recommendations to do for turtles to be less bored while your dealing with assignemnts, etc please? I really feel guilty for him at the moment but i'm not baving enough money or time to help him.

ADVISE NEEDED- my 3yo RES appears to be so mischievous 😏 I come home from work and her filters are in the middle of the tank almost every day! How can I keep her occupied/entertained & from destroying my encloser setup??

Hmmm.... really there isn't much you can do. Like I mentioned, turtles are naturally inclined to explore and interact with (and sometimes rearrange) their surroundings, so it would be kind of hard to discourage them.

Nice video, but i have to disagree with #7 - take them outside. 1) Take them and change their place is kinda stressfull for them. It's OK to do that if necessary or if you have outdoor small like (one or two m3 of water, protected, something like summer camp :D ) 2) Yes, turtles can walk, but they are not used to it very much, so if you put them outdoor, i woud put them i small lake (as i mentioned above). Running turtle on the ground is no sign of happines but sign of stress (find the water!) by my opinion. But other tips are nice, glad to watch the video! :)

Hey i have a question; so my turtle sleeps alot of the day, and i always thought it was cause hes bored, but i tried to give him things to do and all he really likes to do is fight rocks and watch this goldfish he was supposed to eat but spared and now theyre friends swim around… is this normal?

I don't own a turtle but I've done alott of research on them as i may get one a few months later. So according to my knowledge, about the sleeping thingy, turn all the lights off at night and on during the day (if you are not doing it already) so they can differentiate between day and night. Maybe your turtle stay awakes at some part of the night and sleeps during most the day.. Also about the goldish and turtle being friends is soo cutee and its completely normal ♡ And again i dont own a turtle so i Apologize if the lights part doesnt work

my turtles use to sleeep a lot too, but they get active with time . i guess its just a phase. also try feeder fish . goldfish doesnt attract my turtles too but they like chasing feeder fishes

I dont like putting decorations because my turtle's tank is always getting so green! It gets so annoying sometimes. I end up throwing away the decorations after a while because I just dont like how green they get :(

Maybe try an algae eater to help with the green...more frequent water changes might be beneficial too!

Honestly the fish can be faster than the turtle. And if it becomes an issue, I can just feed the fish when the turtle is eating in his separate container 😉
