Note, this 5th and 6th line will only benefit the long distance trains coming from Bandra terminus. It will not affect or assist any train which goes to Mumbai Central There is an existing 5th track between Mumbai Central and Matunga which has a missing section between Bandra and Matunga , if that section is made, it will free up fast line tracks by shifting all express trains on the 5th bi directional line from Mumbai Central to Bandra terminus and then from there the 5th and 6th line will take over

@@hipnotex24 it's not empty, those are WR stabling lines between Dadar and churgate and between Dadar and Matunga, it is the central railway workshop. But the way 6 and 7th platforms are made at Dadar WR is the height of stupidity. Atleast 6th should have been connected to a through line

From my observations ,there is a line also being built besides slow line no. 1 in Malad ,so I think they will shift the lines to accommodate the 6th line . Existing slow line 1 will come to the newly built line besides it and similarly the other lines will be shifted and in this way 5th like will become 6th and existing 4th line will become 5th.This is what I think,not officially confirmed

All this could have been built long ago if someone stupidly had not shifted the harbour lines from east side to the west side. If the harbour lines were kept on east side and extended till Borivali , they could have worked for harbour as well as for out station trains, freeing up slots on the fast lines for more fast trains . Then at Mahim, there would be a single track flyover like the one at Wadala for the harbour down line so that both harbour tracks can go ahead towards cst without needing to intersect the mail lines . Now every time an up Churchgate local comes at Khar harbour line platform, it has to intersect the slow down line to come to regular slow up line ie all slow down trains have to wait till it clears An unnecessary delay caused by the current line alignment

​@@hipnotex24 no, what WR has done is, those tracks are used by central as well as western trains, After Bandra station, it shifts all Andheri slow trains from slow down to slow down harbor track, while all other slow trains remain on the slow down track. but while returning, the train comes till Khar and then it cuts the slow down to enter the slow up track. so, each time a train shifts from harbor up to slow up, it stops the slow down traffic. all this would have been avoided if the harbor tracks had been kept on the east then, as i said earlier, those tracks could have been used by harbor trains as well as outstation trains

Harbour line goes to west of western line because after bandra, there is bandra terminus on the west side near khar road

@@adityaanand9683 i wanted it to be for both (check my original comment) but since the railways built the flyover and shifted the harbor lines from east to the west side. it is not possible to multiplex long distance and harbor local trains. single track (line 5) exists from MMCT to Matunga, then a missing section till Bandra terminus and from there dual tracks till Goregaon and again single track till Borivali. even if the missing section was completed, it can still mean that a lot of passenger and mail trains can run on single 5th track from MMCT to Borivali, totally bypassing the fast local tracks. that would provide empty slots for more fast trains to be run from churchgate to Borivali/ Virar
