Say what you want about Kahn, but that man knows how to assimilate. He moved to Rainey Street and he's going to die for Rainey Street if that's what it takes.
@@jaygo8917 I think you're being racist, but you're grammar is so poor I'm not sure. 1) It's spelled "y'all". 2) "Asian" starts with a capital letter. It is a proper noun, because "Asia" is the name of a continent. 3) I can't find "indordnaire" in any dictionary. I think you meant "indoctrinate". Calling Asians "model immigrants" implies they've done something wrong by fitting in to the country they are living in instead of causing problems for everyone. The term "model minority" is used by people who hold minorities to lower standards of behavior and intelligence based on their race. They insist that white people are holding everyone else down with "systemic racism". When someone points out that Asian kids have better test scores in school than white kids, they are disparaged with the term "model minority", meaning they are somehow betraying the other minorities by doing well and not blaming everyone else for their problems.
@@pseudohippie55 as the series went on Hank became more and more toothless as a parent, the plot necessitated Hank letting Bobby's slobishness slide just so something will happen, which is badly out of character for him, but at that point the writers didn't care; they just wanted wacky plots even if it meant making everyone stupider and flanderized
@@Gojiro7How does "letting it slide" = flanderization? Flanderization means emphasizing a part of a character so they're one dimensional. I swear that people overuse "flanderization."
Part of me thinks Dale would think that having speeding tickets would be a benefit to driving a firetruck since they have to speed to get to an emergency
Considering how patriotic King of the Hill is and Hank loving his propane fueled barbecues, you would except it to have more than 1 fourth of July episode
...With this, Lama Sanglug, the megachurch, the lutefisk incident, the youth pastor, the Coven of Artemis, and Junie Harper, Bobby probably has some religious trauma. (Incidentally, officialy Uncle Sam doesn't have stripes on the hat)
I had always liked Lucky. He wasn't the smartest or richest but he was sweet to all the family, as they were his wife's family, and he always did what was needed to take care of the people he loved. One of the best supporting characters there was
He also WAS a sinner. He was a cocaine user that cheated on his wife, and he died in the hotel room of an actress. I don't think the cocaine use was publicly known (search for Bruce Lee cocaine letters) when this episode aired, but it was known that he died in an actress's hotel room back then.
@@almightyk11 Because to this preacher everyone outside of Jesus and Mary is a SINNER. It could have been a picture of Mister Rodgers and he’d have said it. 😁
Heck Dorland probably had an accident that required plastic surgery that would also account for the personality change. The biggest mystery of this episode is why Peggy didn’t take her purse to church.
It’s surprising how this is the only Independence Day episode considering how gung-ho Hank, his family and the gang are for America. Thank you for talking about this episode man, I hope you’re doing well. Please keep up the great work and have a great day. Take care!
It's probably just because the standard sitcom season occurs from fall to spring, and thus episodes rarely premiered over the summer. As such, there was less incentive to use the holiday. On a similar note, The Simpsons never really had a proper canon Halloween episode until recently, although in that case it was due to Treehouse of Horror filling that role.
If the reboot ends up happening, it'd be funny to see Hank in 2026 attempt to throw his party, but realize that he spent the money years ago and screwed himself over.
Yeah people aren't immune from childish behavior, and we wonder where kids get bad behaviors from. It's very dangerous when people use politics, religion, nationalism, ect to be vindictive and petty. Admitting your mistakes and learning from them builds character.
3:20 One of the things I _don't_ miss the most about being a firefighter was having to enforce burn bans/red flag warnings over 4th of July. You get called a turncoat treasonous traitor for trying to keep people from burning their own houses down 😂
when you read this; all you hear is Cotton's origin story he didn't lose Stinky, Brooklyn and a piece of Fatty just so you can trample on the stars & stripes
Surprised they didn't use the bill dozer to just charge the base. Combined with dale squirrel tactics they'd be able to get all the fireworks and the stinky food can't effect them having poison immunity Or call cotton for back up.
I think they'd have to summon the spirit of Cotton since I think he'd sadly passed by then. Plus, Rainey Street wanted to win, but not at the cost of lives of the Miltonians.
The Bill Dozer's pretty much out of order forever after his dedicated episode... I don't think his knees could pull that off again. It's surprising he recovered enough to walk.
In the episode Just another manic kahn day. Boomhauer says that kahn has lived there for 7 years. Both this episode and the born again on the 4th of july are from season 13
I think the Bruce Lee picture is meant to emphasize that the church is being held in a rented martial arts studio, as also suggested by the trophies to the right of the pastor and the black belt certificate behind Lucky. Just emphasizing the less formal nature of this church.
True, it's a reasonable explanation... That said, I've seen some pretty "creative" choices in certain niche places of worship. You can find all kinds of famous people being portrayed as "model Christians" or even the second coming of Christ, whichever the preacher thinks will attract a bigger flock.
I havent celebrated the 4th by lighting fireworks since i was younger but they were memorable. Thanks to very rich relatives who were also very drunk, we had alot of fireworks and alot of almost going to jail or the hospital
At first I thought Peggy might be over-reacting regarding bobby behavior in this episode. But then I remember her brother, and how he did the exact same thing (stealing money from the purse and acting lazy), and I gasp!
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e not my style, besides I don't want to become one of those really crazy church people who hate everything that don't agree with their beliefs.
@@squirreltactics If we were to go by the deleted scene where it is establish the entire series took place over the course of a single year, then I guess one of the Cinco de Mayos must've been a dream Bill had. I can see why they deleted that scene.
I forgot what the plot of this episode was aside from the fireworks war. Man, was Bobby a little shit in this one. Even for final season standards, I think they got too carried away in every direction they took him. Like, there's no way he thought he'd get away with stealing Peggy's money or that Hank would "see the light" after busting up Uncle Sam.
I had the assumption that the reason Redcorn was secretive about his good fireworks because of reservation laws. Like here in Idaho for example you can sell smaller fireworks like bottle rockets, sparklers and ground-based smoke and light shows in near every parking lot. The reservations are allowed to sell the good stuff and technically you're only allowed to light em there, but that's the second least enforced law around here. Right after how concealed carry is illegal within city limits. As for Hec, well in universe it's been a year or two. Maybe he went through a midlife crisis and got in shape and dyed his hair? Still has the same face lines as the old look.
Ironically when it comes to fireworks, because of where I live, for them to be affective(the darker the skies the prettier the colors when they light off) I'd have to buy fireworks in summer, just to light them off in winter(although for summer, it's a given that the noise they still make helps scare off possibly near by bears, considering fisherman light them off every year)
I'm gonna be honestly, Bobby feels really out of character in the opening. For me, the idea that Bobby would steal from his mother so casually crosses a line.
This is the same problem Bobby has in “Rich Hank, Poor Hank” where he steals Hank’s credit card because he thinks he’s rich. Or the awful “Master of Puppets” where Bobby acts like a baby
@@freeparking301 mildly disagree, him stealing the credit card is at least slightly justified by him being a bit dumb and thinking his family was rich and that it wouldnt have severe consequences.
If milton and rainy share an alley, then how are Bill and Boomhauer from rainy street? They live across the alley from Hank and dale and Kahn. Luanne and Lucky also live across the alley. This episode always gets me with this
A picture of Bruce Lee is in Lucky’s church because the service takes place in a Karate studio. The picture was already there. They just put up a cross and said “look church.”
This title reminds me of a Soundgarden song. @10:05 I completely forgot that that movie and this show were huge at the same time!!! 😂😂😂 Also, regarding Hank and Peggy's parenting - this whole episode is about a group of adults and decorations. I understand the heat of July 4th and all, but still. No one's really an adult in this episode. 😂😂 I hope you're feeling better!
Now that I'm rewatching this, That many fireworks would have to cost around 3k or more. There's so many things they could do to make their 4th of July party better. Food, Games, music, They could even make up some games with money prizes with how much they spent on fireworks
i'd like the think that's the origin of their fued. Rainey street stole 2 houses via the alley. Heck was trying to entice those 2 back to his street festivities. until it became revenge
@@PyrokineticFire1 Can we just talk about the fact that 4 best friends from childhood bought 4 houses next to each other in a nice suburb? They already won
I’d love to see an episode on this channel where you talk about your favorite episode. It’s hard to pick one but right now for me it’s “Aisle 8A.” In my opinion it maybe the peak of the writing staff. You get classic Minh and Kahn (sure it’s not them breaking into the Hill house to do the nasty but it’s almost as hilarious), a storyline involving Bobby and Connie, Hank in an extremely uncomfortable situation and Peggy is actually tolerable. The episode is full of one liners and classic scenes and relatable for kids and parents at different points in their lives.
7:05 Because it’s a martial arts studio and many of them, especially back in the 00’s and back, had Bruce Lee pictures everywhere. The joke is the Pastor was either too lazy, or wasn’t allowed to take the picture down. And that he was only allowed to add his cross and all that, while the service was happening.
Fun fact, hell is referred to as the land of fire and brimstone. Brimstone is an ancient way of saying sulfur. When sulfur burns, it actually burns blue, not red or orange or whatever. So, by this definition, hell is actually blue, not red as it is universally depicted.
Heading off to a shelter in Louisiana, I'm told I won't be allowed to have my phone while I live there, so I'm using that time to watch as much of you as I can, cowboy
fun fact about the flag....the american flags at disney theme parks are not official flags as they do not have all 50 stars. this is so he flag can stand while not having to adhere to flag cod although the flag will fly at half mast for an important death and does get raised and lowered on a regular basis.
About right now the only explanation I have for Heck looking so young is that after having Hank and the gang as volunteer firefighters and decided to improve himself so that he wouldn't need them ever again. Oh yeah have you considered doing a video about the many jobs that Bobby had since that a recent interview for the upcoming reboot we learned that he became a chef?
This is just a theory but I can see lucky changing his place of worship after the birth of his daughter and maybe cutting back a smidge (not fully) on drinking Either that or he liked the energy of the place and just decided to join. It really can be anything with that guy.
Having grown up in Texas, I always thought we went absolutely ham when it comes to celebrating and fireworks on the 4th of July (or NYE for that matter), until I moved to the Netherlands and saw their NYE celebration. Despite all fireworks being banned and illegal in the country, the fireworks started at 6pm and didn't stop until 5am the next morning. I went outside at one point, in a nice quaint neighborhood, and I couldn't see a foot in front of me because the smoke from all the fireworks. It looked like a warzone. It blew me away. Then my wife came here for 4th of July, and after our big show for the city, she was like "That's it??" - really was an impotent celebration in comparison.
Pastor here, I have always loved the way King of the Hill handled religion respectfully. Being a squirrel, you have a surprisingly good grasp on preaching styles. I strongly dislike that dislike that style, it’s historically relatively new. I do wish Hank was more forgiving of the young/rocker/ tattooed church.
I do like OK KO's spin on the saying. "The Enemy of my Enemy is still my Enemy!?!" To make a long story short, he trusted people he shouldn't have assuming the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but got betrayed the minute the second enemy in that scenario was defeated.
This episode has literally everything american. Fireworks, evangelicals, Uncle Sam neighborhood conflict, illiterate schoolchildren, firehoses used on civilians and at the end of the day everyone gets along fine damn I love this screwed up country
Speaking of Heck Dorland's fire hose, from what i got out of Google, it was most likely a single jacket hose, used for cleaning equipment. Because if it had been a double jacket hose, Dale would've likely needed to go to the hospital for some rather nasty injuries. A single jacket hose is about 125-250 PSI whereas double jacket hoses (used for fighting fires) are around 300-400 PSI.
It always surprises me just how few holiday episodes King of the Hill had throughout its run. While some animated shows will do episodes for certain holidays every year, KotH was pretty lax with some of them.
Hey squirrel tactics, long time watcher here. You should do a video on the Hill's house itself. If you can find it you will spot that it's layout changes constantly. In this video it shows that Bobby's room is the first one in the hall on the right. In season 4 episode 22 - Flush with power, that same room is shown as the bathroom
depending on where you live in texas, mornings can range from high 60s to low 70s out in the desertish panhandle and the northern plains to yeah about 90 degrees. humidity is really the issue for south and east texas since we got the gulf
Pretty much people who don't live in Texas is really strict on fireworks do to dry season and only allow fireworks if the week had a good rain days people can buy fireworks but you have to hide it very good
I remember seeing Bobby's preaching out of context in an Adult Swim commercial as a kid. That was the most I knew of King of the Hill until recently. XD
I have an enamel pin of ‘slothful Bobby’ I bought at my state fair two years ago. It’s one of my favorites. 😂 I display it on my acrylic window backpack during July along with my other patriotic pins. 🇺🇸
