Update - August 2024 - Unfortunately I have now run out of the replacement as well. I am going to the AAPEX in Las Vegas in November to talk to manufacturers about the possibility of having them reproduced.

BTW I can remember seeing the Bitter SC at the Vancouver Auto Show when they were new! Love the look of the car!

Hi! I saw the first SC at the 1983 Frankfurt Auto Show and loved them. As for the hard starting, if it is not the AAV there are all sorts of possibilities. I can only guess here. Do you have an injection system trouble shooting chart for your car? But it could be all sorts of other things that cause this, not just the injection system.

Hi! Honestly, I don't know. I have never taken one out when warm. What you might try is to see how the car runs if you pinch the hoses off, thereby blocking airflow completely. If it still idles reasonably well under these conditions I would assume it might have to fully close. But this is just an assumption, I really don't know.

From what I have seen, if working properly, yes they fully close. If it doesn't you will have idle issues. Pinching a hose simulates fully closed, so if idles becomes normal when pinched, your Aux Air Valve isn't fully closing.

Very informative video! My 84 Citroen CX "L-Jetronic" has the same aux air valve. I have the same problem of very difficult start when cold. Fires then dies, fires then dies. I took out the Aux air valve and when cold (4C) the air gap is very small, like in your video. Is this normal? How big should the gap be when it's cold. Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Hi! Thanks for the nice comments. I appreciate it. The cold air gap determines how fast the car idles when cold. If it is very small that might be a problem. How big it has to be I can't tell because every AAV type (Bosch Number) is different in gap and duration of raised idle. On my Senator in Germany which still has a working original valve I noticed that it was set up in a way that it just always had the same RPM, cold or warm. So you never noticed the job the AAV was doing. I wonder if it would help to spray a small amount of lubricant into it and move the flap with a screw driver to see if the flap is stuck and if it shows a larger gap when lubricated. I have revived some AAVs like this in the past.

@@bittersc-repairandmaintena5483 Thanks for the tips! The air gap is the same as the one in your video. I did try lubricating it and opening it with a screwdriver and it's moving freely and it just springs back to where it was. I noticed that yours was probably at room temperature whereas mine even when cold (4C) has the same small gap as yours which is warmer. my AAV is a Bosch 0 280 140 172. I did put it in the freezer and now the gap is bigger so it seems to be OK. But the car is nearly impossible to start when cold.

Die Erläuterungen und Bilddarstellung ist gut, nur schade das die Erklärung in Englischer Sprache vorgenommen wurde. Es heist ja Bilder sagen mehr als 1000 Worte, nur in diesem Fall trifft es leider nicht zu.
