Bose Lifestyle 20 Music Center Display Fix Walkthrough 

Great video, just watched your one on remote control RF transmitter fix and yes the coil wire had come loose, I soldered it ,cleaned the PCP and contact pads and all working fine. . I shall now buy the 5 capacitors and fix the dim led display, man you've saved me some serious $$. I spoke to Bose and they told me to chuck it and buy a new one . Cheers for your excellent video

Thanks so much for posting this video. I have just spent over an hour on the phone to Bose Service centre who have advised that Bose no longer stock parts for this system. You have nailed the issues with my System, and now I now at least how to explain it to the service guy at my local electronics shop. Awesome and thank you.

Fixed my favourite systems with your help, thank you so much! In my system, the C27, C24 and C21 capacitors were originally 63V 100uF. Replaced them with 50V 100uF and it works

Great tutorial all in all. After having seen your video and another which I followed I ended up with four capacitors replaced and black display. Looking through yours again I realized there might be a fifth that I would need attention and replacing this made my day. Thanks a lot!

Thank you nice and easy to follow. Two of the caps were dying reading 50uf and 75uf (should be 100uf) with high ESR. Have replaced all 5 and working great again. Thanks

Thank you. The disassembly was exactly what I was looking fo. Just pickup one of these from a dump yard. When plugged in only motor noise from the cd compartment can be heard . Nothing turns on. If I don't break it burned or don't get bored while working on it, I think I can fix it. The first tool that I used was my table knife

My system's display was COMPLETELY out, but after following this and using 5 replacement capacitors I picked up from amazon, it's back to life again. I wouldn't call it "bright" but it's visible enough. Certainly better than pure dark. Couldn't have done this project without you. Kudos, Luke.

It's so amazing to find this excellent video! I knew it was going to be a capacitor issue! I have a lifestyle 25 and I will try this. I read in the comments that it won't come back to full brightness but it's worth doing anyway. Thank you so much for posting this! I purchased the capacitors. I hope it works. Could it not be coming back to full brightness because some other capacitors in the circuit wore out from overuse trying to compensate for the ones that died? If you find any other fixes please post them because I want this stereo to last at least ANOTHER 23 years.

Fixed my parents in law systems cd drive and saved their cd's with your help ;).

FYI, you don't have to take the door off or unhook that spring, it will come up with the frame after you take the two screws off.

I found c13 but it wasn’t a capacitor. I did see c18 is a capacitor. I replaced c18 instead. Your tutorial did work and I got my display back, but not as bright as before. It was dead for a few years with a stuck cd magazine. Do you have a fix or replacement gear for the worm drive mechanism? Thanks

Thank you for the video. I just bought one of these on eBay and it showed up damaged. I was hoping to be able to fix it myself but I cannot see well enough to do any soldering. I wondered if you could tell me if I can upscale the same speaker and sub system that came with this console to anything newer?

I replaced just the one capacitor on the top (c27) and the display is much brighter. We shall see how long it lasts and hit the other 4 if necessary. Thanks!

It worked! And it came back to FULL brightness after being completely dead for 1-2 years! UPDT: I also fixed my CD player. I have a Lifestyle 25 and here is what I found with my multimeter as I pulled the capacitors out. C27 =10.0 uF, C24 = 97.4 uF, C21 = 98.2 uF, C20 = 99.9 uF, C18 = 98.7 uF. So basically just C27 on the top side was bad I guess. I read several people say they bought a 5-pack of capacitors on Amazon. I saw those blue ones too but I bought a 20 pack of 105C off of ebay for cheaper instead. Maybe those amazon ones just aren't good and that's why you aren't getting full brightness back? Just a thought. I protest amazon anyway as destroyer of the world. The sad thing is the CD player doesn't work at all now. It's been years since I last used it though so maybe it wasn't working before I fixed the display just now. It tries to read a cd and just can't read it. I think I remember this happening years ago so maybe it finally totally died. I tried to reach in there and clean the laser with a Q-tip but no luck. I don't use the CD that often anyway on this but it would be cool to get it fixed. UPDATE: I just fixed the CD Player!!!! I found some youtube videos online about a potentiometer on the laser. If you pull the CD player out and flip it over. There is a tiny brass potentiometer on the laser assembly. Rotate it only 1/8th a turn counter clock wise, set the CD player back down, plug it in and try it. If it still doesn't work unplug and rotate another 1/8th. It took 1/4 turn from start to work on mine. Just a little at a time until it works. It felt like there was resistence after 1/4 turn. Keep track of your turns and be careful because these things strip out so easy! Also unplug it each time you adjust it. Thanks so much for this! It really helped save one of my best non-sentient friends :) and is a life saver since I use this system to mostly play white noise to help me sleep when my neighbors are so noisy. It's like new now after the CD and remote is now fixed. I'm so happy!

Hello Luke I did replace the 5 capacitors and still the display is not coming on, what can be the other problem with it ? Please help.and one more thing is it c13 or c18 as the 4 capacitors which are near together it's c18 please confirm me thanks.

Hi! Thanks a lot for your help. But still have some problem. First the display was dark, then chance like you say. Chance to 50v 100uF Capacitors (my stereo is a Bose lifestyle 25, like yours in the movie, chance all 5 Capacitors.) Got the light back but its not so strong. What can be the problem? And then there is a problem with the cd player. I can put in the magasin (6cd) it take 1 cd and goes in and done but after some seconds it comes ut and take another disc and do the same proceeder again. If i turn of the player its keep going so i have to take the magasin out and then it stop. Can you help me? I love my old player...Thanks.
