The thirtieth episode of Boss Analysis.
Yoshi's Story isn't the most beloved of Nintendo games or even among the Yoshi series, and I can't say I'm very fond of the game myself.
And perhaps one of its biggest weaknesses is the absolutely pitiful gallery of bosses on offer. Most of them are severely lacking in challenge and are instantly forgettable.
But having said that, there is one that remains in the memory of all that meet him... the not-so-dreaded Cloud N. Candy. What could I possibly have to say about this guy? Watch and find out.

I personally would go with things that usually fit a Yoshi game. Let's say that we also put some effort into this thing, instead of being a quick throw-away boss. Maintaining the idea that this guy is soft and sweet and you defeat him by licking; my first idea would be to give him a giant cartoony medieval helm, which would protect him all around, instantly making him "invincible" on the surface. First it would just move around a bit, being impervious to damage, pushing you away if you touch him. The idea would be to throw eggs to his helm's visor at the right angles so it goes up, opening a spot for you to lick, and the better you aim, the more time you'll have to run at him and lick. If you aim wrongly he will only be knocked back if you shoot too low, and maybe he'll fall backwards and roll around if you aim too high, making him slightly dangerous. After a few licks, the helm would be too big for him, so he throws it away but it's left on the stage, maybe with a random position depending on when you gave it the last lick, or maybe a fixed position in the middle for later use, and jumps out of screen, only to appear with a new one, this time with spikes. Now that it's smaller, he would start jumping, doing contact damage, doing charges towards you (or the giant helm, making it roll around the stage and causing damage if you get hit), and you would need to jump into those cloud-platforms to avoid him. Some more licks later, he would be tiny. He goes away once more, but this time comes back encased in a hard spherical object, or hell if we feel cheeky, some sort of super resistant candy wrapper. Butt-stomping would do nothing, and throwing eggs at him would only make it ricochet in the opposite direction. For a bit of charm, let's say you can see it laugh at you through the wrapper whenever you try something on him because it doesn't work directly as it jumps around, trying to stomp on you. This last part would be about trying to position yourself to throw eggs so they send the boss ricocheting to the giant helm of the first phase, cracking the wrapper with each hit (and making a face whenever that happens, so it feels like a comeback for when it laughs at you), and subsequently breaking, leaving the boss for a last lick to have. Not the most incredible thing ever, but you have several classic mechanics of the series being used, it would require good aiming and timing, the first phase leaves an element to be used by the boss (and ultimately, you) during the rest of the fight, and it would also have a bit of personality, or at least more than what the game has right now. And now if you excuse me I have to go think about why I spent so much time on a goddamned youtube comment.

@@CybeastID No that is literally how the game is meant to be played. The official players guide was dedicated to the strategies of doing a 100% melon run. There are exactly 30 melons, 3 hearts and several hidden coin formations (only obtainable in a melon only run) in every level and some of the melon are permanently missable, so it actually gets pretty tough. The other fruits were just included as a sort of easy mode for children. You can't ever beat the high scores unless you do a melon run.

AdamTheGameBoy I did Melon runs for all the stages...ironically it made me dislike the game even more. I couldn't enjoy a regular play through anymore, because it felt like I was cheating for just eating regular fruit. At the same the melon runs were more annoying than challenging, so that didn't feel worth it either. In the end I traded in my game because I just couldn't enjoy it anymore.

I go for all the melons I can, but if I miss some and/or reach the end of the level, I just eat whatever fruit to get to the next world. Although going for 30 Melon Challenge makes the levels more...well, challenging, the main reason I do it is so I actually partake in the whole level: You can easily find 30 fruit before you even get halfway in most cases.

@whoisthisgit I have so much pity for this one boss in particular I can't just leave him like that, so suit up boys.... it's time for: RAVSO'S CERTIFIED BOSS IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM! (at least one player death guaranteed or your money back!) Not gonna lie, this is a very difficult client, but we at R.A.V.S.O. Inc. believe anyone can become a threat with smart changes involved. First off: The Arena. Cloud arena with floaty platforms in nice and all, but you're missing out on one the biggest benefits said arena gives you: BOTTOMLESS PITS! you're in clouds for crying out loud, make players remember why gravity is such a harsh mistress to begin with! so the first step on making CnC a considerable threat? add some bottomless pits, specifically on the edges of the map. Moving on: The Boss. Now CnC is a special kind of wimp, while our purpose is to make him a respectable threat, if we remove too much of CnC's signature wimpiness we'd end up with an empty husk of the real deal, so to compromise, we keep his original signature weakness, but do a few critical tweaks: firstly, keep the damage on contact but, add knockback, STRONG knockback, why strong enough to push an unsuspecting yoshi into a bottomless pit, it's been proven before, a boss that works in synergy with it's arena has better odds of landing a kill :D, secondly more HP, since we keep his weakness to tongue spam, to compensate we increase the HP by tenfold, so lick away. Now for the important part: The Boss AI. CnC is simple, jump towards Yoshi, that's it, normally this is pretty much a suicidal AI, but now with CnC's improved knockback and with the bottomless pits included the idea has more merit now, but as always, there's room for improvement: HORIZONTAL JUMPS, as seen before, CnC specializes in vertical jumps and as his HP goes down, he becomes a prominent jumper.... vertically that is, so by adding a simple horizontal leap towards yoshi we can keep CnC a dangerous threat now that he can potentially ring out yoshi with his added bulk. What's that? NOT DANGEROUS ENOUGH?! Allow us to present to you a series of additional tweaks to seal the deal! - spawn an additional bottomless pit as CnC gets smaller! did CnC fall off? no worries, just make him leap back up, he's a champ at that. - have CnC do an immediate horizontal leap if he's been licked more than 10 times in less than 4 seconds, this punishes yoshis that spam B without thinking about positioning. - CnC still not bulky enough? if he's away from yoshi, have him regen HP, should keep yoshi on his toes. And that about wraps it up! Enjoy your brand new dangerous psychotic fluffy cloud! Interested in our services? Yeah, those services work wonders!, but I'm curious... How could you improve the Eye of Cuthulu? (Terraria), I mean, the only way it COULD be a challenge would be to handicap yourself (1 HP, Merman challenge...)

@@MasterMarx King Bob-Omb is the very first boss you encounter in SM64 therefore yes we can improve him but at the same time we must keep some of his core weaknesses intact to respect the fact that he's only a warmup boss, that being said let's begin: The arena: The summit by itself is nice and flat, has natural edges and KB cannot be ringed out but Mario can, that's actually pretty nice and balanced for first boss arena standards so I won't touch this one. Moving on, the Boss itself: K.Bomb is big and slow. Granted he's 2 times your size, that's expected, and he has the standard 3 hits & you're dead rule, fair enough though we can give him a particular tweak: increased throw distance + slightly faster rotation the more damage taken, this way getting grabbed at 1 HP left might ensure a ring out if Mario is unlucky. Finally the AI. His follow Mario tactics are okay-ish in theory, but this puts KB in danger too! He's missing one important skill: SUMMON BOB-OMBS, we're talking about a king here! What manner of royalty doesn't bring backup in the battlefield of all places? By making KB summon 2-3 bombs after taking damage will ensure Mario doesn't sneak in an extra grab and gives KB some time to recover and allow better pacing. And that about wraps it up for this one boss. (Btw, to anyone who posts boss suggestions, I'll see what I can do, no promises though, these things take a bit of time.)

Incidentally, I’ve heard that one of the big reasons that this game sold so poorly is that it didn’t properly communicate its main appeal to its audience. It was intended more as a puzzle game where your main goal was to maximize your score; that’s why the game’ scoring mechanisms are so complex and discussed in such detail, and why the rest is so simple. Unfortunately, due to the general lack of popularity of scoring mechanisms in general, and especially the game’s failure to emphasize it, people didn’t really understand it, so it failed. I'd treat CnC the same way as Birdo in SMB2. Variations of the same boss fight every other world, with a new gimmick making the fight a little bit harder. In a way, you already provided an ideal difficulty progression in the order of variations you suggested. Invincibility phases that harm Yoshi as the first twist, then moving faster with each lick, and finally a giant version that needs to be reached via enemy ladders. I'd stick in an extra bit between the latter two in which CnC shoots out some of those seedling things you showed, only in this case they're bouncing about the arena and tick off a bit of Yoshi's health every time they make contact. That's really the best thing you could do to add life to this fight, I think, by forcing the player to negotiate smaller mooks to reach the main guy. It would be the world's cutest bullet hell!

I actually died to him once when he got small. If they remake this game and have a hard mode though, they should give him lightning moves, maybe he fires lightning bolts or rotates lightning like Kracko. The after a few licks he should split, so you eventually have 4 of him jumping around at high speed and shooting out lightning. There should also be pits in his arena and when he jumps he should rain rainbow torrents like in the pipe levels.

My idea is to change nothing, except that every time you shrink Cloud N Candy, you're also splitting it into two. So one boss becomes two, two becomes four, etcetera. Having multiple targets to deal with make it harder to spam-lick; or maybe it'll still be possible to spam-lick a single target but when you do you've also spawned a dozen or more smaller and faster ones at the same time.

When I first saw this thumbnail I honestly thought this video would be on all 5 bosses in Yoshi's Story, since, as the description says, they're an absolutely pitiful gallery (And hey, there's been an Alex Kidd boss analysis video already). But after watching the video, I think we can take a look at all the bosses from this game and think of ways to improve them (like, for Baby Bowser, not having the Super Happy Tree available). But the hilarious thing about Yoshi's Story though is that if you try and go for something like a 30-melon challenge, it ends up being frustratingly hard in most levels. Don't quite understand the comparison of this game with Fire Emblem though.

Just make the damn thing a poison cloud. For each bite Yoshi takes, it eats at his health and he must rely on randomly dropped fruit throughout the course of the battle to survive. Dwell on that bit of sadism... >:D

Hmm...maybe have a much grosser, deadlier creature under all the fluff. So Yoshi licks away, only to uncover the true threat, and then the boss battle becomes something completely different.

Some of the ideas I'd use would be: *CLOUD N. CANDY* _(Cantankerous Cotton Confectionary)_ > Is slightly faster in his biggest form, and can charge up his jumps (hangs in the air for a few moments) to produce shockwaves that do damage and knock you back when he lands. At half health, he can leap up off the screen entirely to disguise where he'll land. > In his default/vulnerable form, he can only be licked a number of times (say, 5) before Yoshi gets so overwhelmed by the sweetness that he has to pause: in turn letting Cloud N Candy get away to prevent him being stun-locked. > Gains the ability to spit out smaller versions of himself to come after you (or be used by yourself to jump over him or turn into eggs to throw), "sour", angry versions of his smaller selves (that harm you when you eat them and explode when you jump on/throw eggs at them: meaning you have to dodge them), or big globs of sticky candy that temporarily coat the floor where they hit: slowing down your movement/jump if you stand in them, or doing damage if you get hit directly. > The side floors of the arena are no longer there, meaning he can knock you off if you're not careful. > Taking advantage of the above, he can also suck you into his mouth at medium-close range: doing no damage, but letting him spit you off the edges of the ring. While you can survive with flutter-jumps and avoid the inhale by running away from him, the lower either your or his health is, the more powerfully he'll spit you. > Likewise, he can also take a deep breath and blow outward to force you toward the edge and make you fall off (much like _Mega Man X_ and its Storm Eagle fight), which can be survived by getting behind or running toward him when he does. > At half health, he turns into an angry, brightly-coloured "sour" version of himself (AKA, *SOUR N. ANGRY* ) that harms you when you lick him (think a Warhead or Toxic Waste candy). Now, he can only be stunned by throwing two eggs at his face first (ala the Sidesteppers from _Mario Bros Arcade_ needing to be hit twice in succession): which stuns and turns him back to normal for a few moments, letting you lick him. > Sour N Angry is not only much faster, but can bounce around the arena unpredictably as well as just jump. > At half health, he also gains the ability to temporarily destroy the floating platforms or sections of the floor (they come back after about 10 seconds) with his charged jump, increasing the danger of chasing him. If the boss goes through the bottom floor, he falls down, but then immediately leaps back up. > Upon his defeat, Yoshi does a victory pose for several moments before looking concerned, and then promptly popping out (like laying an Egg) Cloud N Candy's floating, disembodied eyes (the only things he couldn't swallow), which drop down to the ground, glancing around and turning to Yoshi with a look of horror that quickly turns to embarrassment (ala the Ghosts in the _Pac-Man_ games), before hopping away quickly with squeaky noises. In short, I've probably thought about this a bit _too_ much. :v

Imagine a cloud N' candy danmaku platformer bossfight. Where Yoshi would have to dodge smaller cnc colored bullets with worryingly high amounts them used in the patterns. (so yes, Yoshi would still have to eat some of them, but will not regain HP from them)

Make it so he only takes one hit to defeat, but he dodges all of your attacks. He can quickly rack up damage, ignoring your invincibility frames. He also can shoot candy blasters and can throw bones at you. Finally, he has a glowing blue eye and has a epic theme.

If we're dealing with Cotton Candy, why not have something like "cloud floss" that Yoshi can climb/spring on during the fight? I think the fight would also be made more challenging if it was over a bottomless pit, and Candy was just flying everywhere, with Yoshi having to use platforms and such to get close enough to lick him. All the while, Candy would fire jellybeans or some other candy to try and trip Yoshi up. If we're sticking to the Cloud theme, why not give him lightning attacks too? Oh! Idea! Have Yoshi hijack a Lakitu cloud and ride it up to Candy to get close enough to lick him, that'd be cool! Either way, good job on the video, I'd love to see more of these kinds of "boss improvement" videos.

How would I improve Cloud N. Candy? Oh, that's simple. I would make it so that you WOULDN'T be healed every single time you lick him. He's the first boss of the game, for Christ's sake! If you're trying to make a lasting impression on somebody by means of boss battles, the least you could do is make your first boss a remote challenge in some aspects whilst also trying to make it easier than bosses later on in a game! I mean hey, the fight against Krow from Donkey Kong Country 2 is a prime good example of this as he poses a threat do to his erratic attacks and the fact that unlike the first game where most bosses required you to jump onto them to deal damage to them (the only exceptions to that being Queen B and Dumb Drum), you actually are unable to damage him with a bop to his head and have to resort to throwing eggs at him. Now THAT is how you make a lasting impression on a gamer! Also, whilst Cloud N. Candy definitely is one of the easiest bosses in gaming, you gotta admit that there may as well be other bosses that are easier... mainly due to the fact that there are boss fights out there where you can literally do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (ex. Famed Mimic Gogo from Final Fantasy V) and win that way. Cloud N. Candy still requires effort to defeat considering just putting the controller down will just net you a captured Yoshi (and if said Yoshi is the last one that hasn't been captured yet, that means that's game over, and you are hereby dubbed an ignoramus because you lost to Cloud N. Candy... yes, I know what I said might be taken as an insult, but I was only just listing that NOBODY should ever lose to Cloud N. Candy).

Here's some of my idea for CnC : -he has 2 shields spinning around him, blocking your tongue from licking him. When he's halfway dead, another shield appear -he occasionally summon 2 tiny version of himself and they'll try to hit you. You can eat them, though -he'll split into 2 smaller individual when he got licked 3 times, and goes on until the 6th split

I actually have a good way to spice up the "typical final boss" idea. Basically, his hands shoot out sweet peas, which are spiky until he smashes the ground with his hands. This will cause the player's platform to slightly break, but the peas are now safe to carry. Throw the sweet peas at a finger. It'll act like a fluid and travel to Cloud's eye, showing damage done. Three peas are needed to cause his hands to be stunned and act as springs. Note that each finger can only be attacked once. The springs will launch the player up onto the head, where they'll chow down on Cloud. His mouth will chase down the player to get them off him while the player wants to eat all the pink spots glowing. Once all are gone, the boss is defeated, but the mouth is faster than the player. If it catches up, Cloud will throw the player back onto the platform to repeat the cycle. This also opens up speedrunning potential! Baiting the mouth is really tricky, but possible so you can have more time to eat the spots. Also, since there's only ten fingers, then once the player is knocked off three times, there's only one finger left. Once that finger is defeated, the boss will revive his hands to repeat the cycle and enable the player to continue to hurt him. It does waste time tho as a soft punishment for being too greedy.

I have three ideas. The first idea is that CnC would jump really high, ground pound, and then produce massive shock waves for Yoshi to jump over. The second idea is that Yoshi will be put in a "mini-level" of sorts. Behind Yoshi is an absolutely massive CnC, which will quickly pursue Yoshi, so it's a mad dash to the end of the mini-level. The third idea is that the arena is slightly larger, so that it can make room for four more CnC's, which will all quickly jump in random directions.

Turn him into a giant M&M that you have to use eggs to crack pieces of his hard shell off of before licking your self-made weak point. You then gouge a hole with your tongue to his nut to damage him directly. Removing more candy from him makes the fight easier to the point where it's just a nut you can butt stomp to death, but it would take much longer. Here a skilled player could focus just one small spot and kill the boss fairly quickly.

My idea for something like this is to have him be huge, and you have to tunnel through his body by eating yourself a path, and try to get to his weak point center. On the inside, there will be stuff like spikes balls stuck into the fluff to avoid, and he would roll around, so while inside, the gravity is always shifting, and you need to find out how to get to the center. Also there would be enemies stuck inside his sticky candy, so you can get eggs and shoot it at his core. I like the idea that the boss is just basically a giant, edible katamari, rolling around and getting a ton of stuff stuck on the inside of his candy fluff.

Make licking him hurt your health, but have opportunities to gain health back littered around the boss area. Also, make him faster and make his jump create shockwaves that stun Yoshi, like that elephant from Mega Man X. Flame Mammoth.

A couple scenarios come to mind for improving CnC. 1. Each lick pulls off a piece of its candy skin revealing a hyper alloy combat chassis underneath and once you tear away it’s eyes, they glow red, and once you finally eat all its outer skin, it pulls out a phased plasma rifle in 40 watt range and wrecks your shit, and so you gotta send a yoshi from the future back in time (possibly either the black or white yoshi) that has knowledge of its battle strategies and possible weaknesses while protecting present yoshis from termination. And even then, defeating it is questionable at best. 2. If you eat CnC too fast, Yoshi gets morbidly obese and is inflicted with type 2 diabetes.

Here's how I'd change the boss: So, instead of actually trying to hurt you, Candy actually gets scared and runs away. You then have to chase him through a platforming gauntlet where you try to lick him as you chase him, whilst making jumps and dodging obstacles. I think this could make both for a good opportunity to really test the player's platforming skills up to this point, it could be a nice change of pace from other fights. You could be throwing eggs at P-switches to open doors, eating enemies to get them out of your way, and maybe there could even be shortcuts. I don't know if the gauntlet would be endless and only end when you defeat the boss or die, or if Candy would escape at some point, causing you to start over. Either could really work. I think this could really make the fight not just a better fight overall, but a quite memorable encounter. Of course, it would have to actually be designed well to work. Anyway, yeah. That's my idea. Does anyone have any thoughts?

here a couple ideas to improve cotton candy 1. Throughout the fight, he'll regain his size, meaning if you don't take him out fast enough he'll undo your progress, though the healing process is slower the bigger he is. 2. The old classic shockwave attack when he lands from his jumping attack (which would make his faster jumping in his smaller form more of a threat). 3. Thirdly, eating too much of him at once will go from healing to not healing Yoshi, to finally damaging him, though the resignation ability mentioned in 1 would have to be tweaked to compensate. 4. Maybe give him a rollout attack that, like a few other attacks in video game history, make him invincible while he does it. His regenerative abilities would be off here, but he'll use it more often the smaller he is, maybe even using it mid-jump as he gets really low. 5. Have him use that mouth for something and use it to eat you. Maybe use it a a lunge attack in the bigger form while the smaller sizes get rollout.

About Wall N. Candy, yoshi can't wall-jump, so Wall N. Candy will shoot little cloud to another side, shooter WnC will become smaller, receiver WnC become larger. Yoshi will need to jump on this clouds and lick

Well, this boss could've easily been more challenging just with a few changes. A great idea would be flying and throwing stuff. Another idea would be lick-spam prevention with the addition of 1-2 second invisibility after he gets licked every each time.

I had an idea: They could make him jump into the water nearby to become Water N. Candy when at low health, he is really invincible right now. You'll have to dodge his water attack until he evaporated into cloud(at full health) again. And then you can finish him, once and for all.

Awesome video Git! if Cloud N. Candy returned as a boss in Crafted World (if he's not in it that's alright) which is released on 29th March 2019 here's what me idea could be! He would be made out of cotton balls instead of clouds (Cotton N. Candy) to fit the cardboard theme and there would be 3 phases and the smaller he is it gets harder and difficult: PHASE 1- Stomps the ground with electric shock-waves and sends out Shy Guys, maybe he could bounce each time he jumps. Defeat him and Phase 2 starts PHASE 2- Gets spikes all over his body and tries to roll into Yoshi if he dodges Cotton gets stuck to a wall and throw eggs at him, again do this and third phase begins PHASE 3- He transforms into lots of storm clouds and tries to shock you and shoots lasers from their eyes and summon lightning bolts which gets harder, pelt with him with eggs and you win INTRO: "We meet again Yoshi remember me from last time now that i'm strong and tough i will destroy you! Muhahahaha!!!" DEFEAT: "NO! You have defeated me once again i will be back YOSHI!!! i will and be back! (He turns into smaller clouds which float away)

i want to share my idea of making CnC slightly difficult but to keep his difficulty as "first boss" but still able to see if you are able to understand all you learnt trough the first sections 1) The boss design: CnC looks good as a first boss and his weak point is quite perfect to give him different strong points. we can deduce that CnC is made of Cotton Candy and it's very sticky,so,have CnC drop down the arena sometimes and make a shield out of enemies or traps that can be found in the past levels,eating an enemy removes that shield,but eating a trap removes health unless you use a egg that you get from enemies to remove it 2) Arena: Instead of random clouds sprinkled around we need 5 clouds, 2 to each side and 1 in the center,this will allow yoshi an advantage on CnC to aim his touge better BUT CnC will use this later on (i will talk about this in phases) to make some attacks. 3) Phases: The first one is the classic battle,jump,lick and so on. Phase 2: when down to 50% hp CnC drops from the arena for the first time,making a shield of both shy guys and some traps,the traps are pretty big so they are easy to break down with eggs,there are 3 shy guys on each side of him while the traps are on the 4 edges,you can remove the shy guys and eat him without destroying the traps Phase 3: down to 25% hp CnC comes back with 3 shy guys on each side and full of traps everywhere else,plus,he's pretty fast and will jump from each cloud in an order,after 7 jumps the last one will lock on yoshi,if dodged he will be stunned of 2 seconds,removing a trap will remove weight from him,so remove only enough traps to eat him,it will take about 5 licks. And that's my idea PS i'm slowing becoming a game desing and i would love to hear your opinion on my idea!

here's an idea: the poison/sweet mechanic, but make it a double boss. one sweet cloud, and one dark & stormy sour cloud. the boss would be named Sweet N. Sour! the sweet cloud would work pretty much exactly like cloud n. candy, but instead of health, you would get an egg for each lick. also, invulnerability frames to prevent you from melting him. the sour cloud works more like a regular foe, only being hurt by eggs, and licking/ground pounding him hurts you. you'd have to get eggs from the sweet cloud. honestly, it still wouldn't be tough, but itd be fun.

My idea would be that he forms into different things such as common enemies, people who you already met, and other bosses. Essentially, he can look like anyone from the game and use tricks to try and make you think something happened, while actually, he just pretends that happened and if you dont notice that, you lose health, i.e. youre in the boss fight, he shapes into some enemies and at some point he randomly dies by falling off the clouds or something. Then some other yoshi or a friend comes and thanks you for defeating him, before going into hysterical laughter, shaping a box out of himself and crushing you, unless you lick him while talking. However, there would be some indication that its not another yoshi, for example being yellow and smiling like he does. (Note that when impersonating enemies / bosses, the behaviour is the same.)

Your idea with making Cloud N Candy intermittently poisonous has one huge flaw: the black and white Yoshis like the taste of everything, even stuff all other colors hate. It might be better to have to eat through shields of enemies and make him vulnerable, first. :3

I think if he spilt up every time he jumps, that would work. Though the little ones would be easier to dispatch of, the sheer chaos would make it difficult to attack without getting hit. And of course he would reform eventually. To add to the chaos, some of them would be inedible spikes.

Cloud N. Candy could have only the part you lick shrink, and upon eating all of that part away, it reveals spikes that are dangerous to lick. Once all the cloud is gone, he has no sticky puffs holding him together, causing him to fall apart.

Good idea. Everytime Cloud N. Candy gets licked, he releases a cloud. If Yoshi touches it, he gets hurt. The Cloud goes in a random direction and bounces off the walls and floor of the arena. Also, Cloud N. Candy SUPERJUMPS, like ABOVE THE SCREEN.

This is how I'd change CnC: The first phase would be the same battle as usual. But once Yoshi eats up CnC... Yoshi coughs up a piece. "Hehe... did you really think it would be _THAT_ easy?" CnC grows to a gargantuan size. Yoshi still licks him to deal damage, but it doesn't heal Yoshi. Also, bits of CnC would break off and shoot down bolts of lightning and acid rain. Once CnC gets small enough, it would split into 8 pieces and start bouncing around like a lunatic. Eat those eight to win.

My ideas for cloud n. candy: 1. Have no time on the ground, constantly be jumping. 2. Jump super high, and off-screen. (distance remains the same when he gets smaller) 3. Not heal you 4. Spawn 2 enemies every time you lick him, forcing you to defeat those before you attack him again.

Cloud N. Candy just jumps around... but we can fix that. Hope you like the idea!. First Off:The story to the boss So the battle starts off normally. You lick Cloud N. Candy until he dies. Pretty normal battle. When you beat him it cues the regular boss defeated scene. But when it is almost over, it goes back to normal and zooms out on Yoshi. He spits something up. Then it starts absorbing the clouds untill Cloud N. Candy is back. But this time he has spikes that can eject and fire. The spikes are made of Cloud N. Candy. You can't lick through the spikes and they hurt you 2 damage. Secondly:The Game-play This time the jumping is different. First he jumps normally, but then as you lick him once he starts jumping vertically and can jump higher. Once you lick him a few more times, he starts creating shock waves that stun Yoshi so he can hurt him. You can lick Cloud N. Candy when the spikes get released in an attempt to hurt you. But you can only lick him once per release, and for him to release the spikes you need to wait for a lot of jumps, not only that but this is only the second phase! Thirdly:Phase Three So you may be asking, "What is phase three like?" Well, it is after you lick all of the spiky Cloud N. Candy. After you defeat phase 2 he starts collecting more clouds. This lasts a second or 2 because the clouds just come to him. He then starts to become poisonous AND spiky. Same rules as before, but now the more you lick him he becomes faster. When he is almost licked all the way it is almost impossible to hit him because he is too fast. And at that point he always creates shock waves when jumping. Also he flashes between poison and normal. The poison ALSO deals 2 damage so this battle in 2 hits you are defeated. Fourthly:Healing This time, Cloud N. Candy doesn't heal you phase 2 and on. During these phases you are forced to eat fruit lying around the stage. The fruit comes from propeller-guys that join the battle sometimes. Also over time Cloud N. Candy slowly picks up clouds, so you have to try to lick him when you get the chance an in order to stop him doing that you have to fire an egg at him because it makes the regeneration stop but he still jumps. You pick eggs up from the fruit, Cloud N. Candy when you get to lick him, and the propeller-guys. Finally:Music The music at the first phase is normal boss music, but in his second phase it is a little more intense theme, and by the third phase it is a remix of the regular boss theme. When he is defeated the music just stays the same as he speaks "No! Not Again! I spent so much time planning a way to defeat you and you foiled it!" Then a cut-scene starts with Yoshi licking Cloud N. Candy one last time. He disappears and then the regular boss defeated scene plays an you go on to the next level. What did you think of my idea? Was it good? That is fine if it wasn't.

Cloud n candy improvement: give him spikes in everywhere but one place and the spikes will spin around. The spikes also hurt if you lick them, as well as block you from his body, so you have be at the correct side and try to get a hit through the tiny hole

My idea on making him harder: He switches from eatable form to uneatable. As he gets smaller, he also gets faster and is in the uneatable mode more often. Licking him in an uneatable form causes you to take more damage depending on progression through the fight. Once he is only one lick away from being defeated, he's insanely fast and his forms switch very quickly. Lick him while he's in the uneatable mode now and it's an instakill for you.

Not sure if someone already mentioned it, but why not give give it hidden spikes similr to that of a Pirahna Plant? The more you lick at him, the more spikes get revealed, making certain angles hard to lick from after a while, unless you can hit it in between the spikes.

I like the giant idea, but instead of specific weakspots, how about a massive amount of obstacles that guard him, like say a ring of spike balls circling him with only a small gap. You'd have to get through the obstacles and lick him as many times as you can before retreating to safety. As you whittle him down, the wall of obstacles get more and more complex, but you can get an easy refill on health from Candy should you make a mistake, as long as you aren't too greedy.

There's a boss that goes down even easier than Cloud N. Candy: Geroppa the Toad, from Kung Fu Kid on the Master System. He's literally just a big toad that doesn't do anything except hop around. He freezes when hit, and while frozen, he's still vulnerable. You can take him down in about a second if you're fast enough!

If they are ever going to bring candy n.cloud back, they could just make him an angry thundercloud. Imagine him looming above yoshi while throwing thunders and trying to squash you. You'll have to lick him while he has calmed down, but after you lick him, he becomes faster and more aggressive (or even duplicate himself!).

Idea: Mabey Cloud N Candy can only be hurt on the bottom, he could have a bitter outside that hurts if you lick it. You would have to risk being smashed to do damage to him, and when he is too small for weak spots, he goes full Spelunky shopkeeper and goes berserk attempting to outmaneuver you.

I have an idea, though I like most of whoisthisgit's ideas, and they may even be better. Nevertheless I have an idea that may be a bit complicated: Have Cloud N Candy (CnC) start out as an invulnerable cloud that stretches the top of the screen that looks slightly different from the platforms to differentiate. In this form, CnC will scatter projectiles in the form of lightning bolts. Furthermore, if a lightning bolt hits a platform, the entire platform becomes an electric hitbox for 1 second. Dodge the lightning attack for 5 seconds to make CnC condense and appear in his familiar and vulnerable form. Lick him to damage him (once, no rapid fire) and send him back to his cloud form. 5 hits gives you the victory. Each hit increases difficulty as follows: After first hit: You must dodge for 6 seconds to make CnC become vulnerable. In his vulnerable form, whenever he lands from a jump. the platform he jumps on becomes a electric hitbox and sends a lightning bolt downward that turns the platform it hits into a hitbox, and so on, down to the floor. Yoshi has 15 seconds to land a hit, otherwise he returns to his cloud form. After second hit: Retains all previous abilities. Dodge duration increased to 7 seconds. Added wind effect from left to right. Vulnerable form flashes between white (safe to eat) and gray (deals electric damage to Yoshi) on 1 second intervals. Yoshi has 12 seconds to land a hit. After third hit: Retains all previous abilities. Dodge duration increased to 8 seconds. Wind effect is stronger. Yoshi has 9 seconds to land a hit. After fourth hit: Retains all previous abilities. Dodge duration increased to 10 seconds. Wind effect now changes direction and gusts. When CnC becomes vulnerable, he spawns a small tornado that homes in on Yoshi. Yoshi has 6 seconds to land the final hit to defeat Cloud N. Candy.

This has probably already been suggested, but as far as Cloud N. Candy goes, what his stage needs are obstacles--give Yoshi some gaps to jump across so he can't just camp out near CNC, and perhaps give the cloud a breath/wind attack to blow Yoshi away and toward said gaps. (Hey, it worked for the clouds in Mario 64.) It would mitigate the multiple-hit problem and make the fight more dangerous; as for limiting the number of licks Yoshi can get in, instead of poison, Cloud N. Candy could periodically charge his body with electricity like Huff N. Puff from Paper Mario. It would help demonstrate clearly that touching CNC is dangerous, and they'd learn more about timing their attacks. But that's just my two coins, of course, I'm sure there are plenty more ways this big ball of fluff could be more challenging.

Call him Hard Candy to start with. The outside shell males Yoshi disgusted, punishing you for trying to lick it. He has a gooey centre that is only exposed after breaking open the hard candy shell. Breaking open said shell is not nearly as easy as tossing eggs at it, but rather you, the player, have to bait him into doing a super attack. If you dodge out of the way the attack, the impact of hard candy in then ground/wall etc. cracks his shell, which you can then break with an egg, which allows you to attack the gooey centre within. Hard Candy then sucks in his shell, becoming smaller and covering the broken area. His attacks change up from simple contact attacks to ranged and body slams. He also no longer does the super attack. You have to reflect one of his attacks with an egg back to him to crack his shell. . After shrinking him again he is even smaller and faster. Now he does every attack, even the super attack, but nothing seems to crack his shell. You have to force him to do the super attack multiple times, after which the shell will break off entirely and you can lick him to death. Yes I have thought about this way too much. Feel free to judge.

How to help cloud n' candy: make him a cloud. Yoshi's tongue will go right through and it will take forever to drink him with only a tongue

I might make it so that rather than licking him directly doing damage, licking him will shrink him and spawn a tiny cloud n candy. licking up the tiny cloud n candy will kill it, but if they make it back to the original boss, they recombine and he regains health. the only way to defeat the boss completely would be to eat all the minions. that way licking him fast is an option, but you'll have lots of enemies to deal with. Maybe there could be a time limit of some kind, like having the clouds you're standing on break apart eventually, leaving you to fall to your death. That way, you'll be tempted to lick faster and, thus, make the battle harder on yourself. You'd have to find a balance between beating him fast enough to beat him in time, but not so fast you overwhelm yourself with enemies.

Well, he could be wearing some giant shoes to prevent you from licking him from bellow, making him super sized and boom, you have to platform as he slowly jumps around till he shrinks and you have to play catch with this candy cloud of heals

Hmm, I've got an idea for a great boss fight! How about we give him a screen nuke that he'll use every time he lands after he jumps, and the only way to stop it is to lick him, and the he'll jump again and reset his pattern. But that would be to easy since he's so big, so let's just make him small, about the same size of Yoshi. He won't shrink either, so let's just have him be defeated after about... 28 licks? Yeah that seems fine. To make sure he isn't eaten in seconds, let's give him some invincibility frames, just enough that he'll be invulnerable during, but not after his jump. Those platforms gotta go, too. It'd be too hard if he jumped on one and you couldn't reach him. Same about the wide rooms. Can't have him go off screen now! So, now he's in a small, confined room with walls. Yeah... but one thing I don't like is his name. Cloud N. Candy? What does that even mean? I have a far better name for a boss like this... Toad Man.

I made a comment on this video outlining my ideas before, but I sorta ripped off another commenter, so my older comment is gone. To replace it, Boss Fight Academy is back in session! *Arena* For the arena, I'm thinking it should be in two phases. The first is CnC himself plus some clouds, and once you get him small enough, I'm thinking something on like Propeller Knight (Spectre of Torment), with an arena built of rising platforms. Bottomless pits are definitely prominent. *Phase 1* In Phase 1, CnC is absolutely massive, with sweet (damageable) and sour (harmful) spots. He should be roughly twenty Yoshi tall. As he gets smaller, the sour spots get larger. Damage him 40 times to end the phase. *Phase 2* Once you lick away all the sweetness, CnC will split into eight smaller CnCs, and begin bouncing around in a frenzy. Hit them with eggs to damage them. Each CnC takes three hits. Aside from bouncing around the screen like maniacs, they have a few other attacks. Ricochet Spear - All CnCs bunch up on a platform, then rocket around the screen for five seconds before breaking apart. Sour Tower - Stacks of four CnCs will assemble, wobbling across platforms towards Yoshi. Sweet Wheel - All CnCs form into a circle, rolling across platforms, affected by gravity. Kill all Mini-CnCs to end the fight.

Here are my top 5 suggestions to improve Cloud N. Candy to make him not so Easy Egypt. (I rank them based on how much I think they're funny and effective) 5. Have the fight take place with a super strict time limit like in Asterix. 4. Give him the moveset of the Death Egg Robot from Sonic 2 and Yoshi has 1 hp during the fight 3. Have 2-3 Cloud N. Candies 2. The fight is normal until Cloud N. Candy has 1 hp left where phase 2 of the fight begins like how you perceived it in 8:30 as Kamek uses his magic to grow Cloud N. Candy to be huge. 1. Give him the moveset of Spikey Tiger from Secret of Mana (complete with the game's boss theme and the aggravating glitches from Spikey Tiger's fight) or... 0. Just apply everything I say to Cloud N. Candy

Maybe if his health gets too low, C&C could roll around on the cloud ground and stick it to himself, both healing and making the arena harder to navigate.

Question, why the health bar looks bad than usual ? There should have 8 health points when you are full health.

Maybe one way to improve Cloud N Candy is if every time Yoshi licks him, as well as shrinking a little CNC appears as a regular enemy, meaning by the end you have to dodge loads of them trying to get the real one. Yoshi merely takes a chunk out of him instead of eating it so he can't restore his health too. I admit it's a little similar to Marching Milde from Yoshi's Island, but it might be a good idea.
