I just wanted to say thank you for using the Walrus Audio Descent in this CTL out tutorial! You troubleshooted all of my issues with switching. I honestly was gonna go through the hassle of selling the thing and buying a MIDI capable reverb until this. Thank you so much for this video!
I'm not sure if I got it wrong, but I think the LED and the light on the amp were already synced before you changed the Min-Max thing. This happend after pressing the bank up button whilst it was on INV mode for an odd amount. So I think how it works is: You set it to INV mode, you switch it once and now it is inverted. You can go back to LAT and everything should be fine. Pressing twice with the mesa switch is probably due to it being a toggle switch and not a momentary. A momentary switch only connects (or disconnects) while you press it, so after releasing it, it is no longer connected (or disconected). The mesa switch being a toggle switch connects after pressing the first time and disconnects when pressing the second time. As the descent requires a momentary switch, it probably only changes program / bypasses after a short "on" was sent. But with the mesa pedal being pressed only once, it still kind of "sends" on, not for a short time but so long until you press it again. So not before you press it the second time and the "on" will be cut again, it won't change anything. This also explains, why the descent saves when you turn it on and off on the ES-8, as for on only a sort signal (and yes, I know there is no signal, it kinda just connects things like tip and sleeve etc.) is needed but the ES-8 sends a continous one. Maybe all that has something to do with the confusing mode things happening when your switching your presets, but that's way to complicated for me to understand for now as I'm tired as f*ck atm. What's still unclear to me is that INV works. I didn't read the manual, but INV sending a short "on" is somehow not understandable to me. I think this is way too much for my poor english knowledge, but maybe you got it. Hey thanks for this video! I am facing similar issues with the ES-8 and it is hard to figure out what is going on. The UI is pretty terrible all around, and adding insult to injury, the manual does explain the functions, it does not really talk about what the setting mean in various contexts. Anyway, these videos have been helpful for me, thank you!

If I use a 1 TRS, (from the amps footswitch), to a 2 TRS, into the Boss ES8 will I be able to change among the 4 channels?. Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi, I'm considering buying the Blackstar HT 100 Mark II, which has the same 3 channels, reverb and boost, but also 2 voices per channel, it has an official 5-ways footswitch (which I don't want to buy) that seems to work with a single TRS cable, the amp doesn't have midi output. Did you figure it out how to change your 4 channels with the boss es-8? I think I will have a very similar problem. Thanks in advance!
I have a PRS Archon amp head. My channel footswitch is for two channels only: clean and lead. But, my footswitch is not connected with a 1/4" cable to the back of the amp. It look's more like a MIDI connection. Since the external controls on the ES-8 are only for 1/4" cables, am I screwed? Thanks!
Hi not sure if you can help me but I’m at a loss. I have an Egnater Armageddon and a Boss ES-8 pedal Switcher. The ES-8 can be Midi controlled. My dilemma is getting the Armageddon to switch channels via Midi using the Boss ES-8. I have a midi cable connected to the Midi in on the head going to the midi out of the ES-8. When I hit one of the buttons on the ES-8, say patch #1, and I have the dirty channel selected on the Armageddon,I hold down the channel select on the Armageddon and the light flickers but the dirty channel won’t save to patch #1 on the ES-8. I’m not a very technical guy so I hope this makes sense but I want to run a full midi rig and I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to do this. Thanks in advance.

I have a Carvin Legacy 2 amp and was just curious if you switch the amps channels with the ES8 through the midi inputs or by going through the amps footswitch and into ES8's ctl 1/2 input?? Read on other sites you use midi but I couldn't get that to work and my amps footswitch input is like a midi one with 5 little prongs and it says nothing about this in this video, can you help please???????

this is way more switcher than i need. i think one of the joyo's would be just fine for my needs. also. based on the video's i've seen of Daniel's...the gigrig is easier to use.

Hi... Did you find out? I came to the video wondering that,. if I can actually use some kind of trigger for functions on the amp. Like reverb or whatever it is switchable on the amp. Even more, does it have momentary latching?

Hi henning. The issue you came across when you wanted inverted latch. When you did this video you demo’d it using an assign button and worked a way round this by swapping the min and max around. but if you had a patch where you wanted this but not as an assign, so just selecting the patch itself switched something, is there a way of swapping it around? I use the cnum option to kick in and out a boost so can really do it on an assign as that would turn on an off the thing I want on all the time. Boss have been really shit answering this as I’ve had an email into their tech support now for over a week and no reply at all. Thanks Andy
Is there a way to do amp channelswitching in MANUAL-mode as it is like a pedal? In PRESET-mode everything works fine, by setting the exCTR outputs. But during rehearsels I don't want to create patches while other bandmembers are waiting , hehe Just want to use the manual-mode like a sort of jam-mode and switch between effects and channels.

Just for your interest ... There are actually no stereo cables. TS have been invented as asymmetrical and TRS have been invented as symmetrical cable and later have been mis-used ... abused ... perverted ... 😂 ... to carry two asymmetrical signals by combining the two grounds and give a s* about crosstalk ... An audio signal always has its own ground, so TRS can't be stereo ...

Hast du zufällig mittlerweile irgendeine Möglichkeit herausgefunden, die Polarität des CTL 1 umzukehren und dabei noch in den Patches umschalten zu können, ohne, dass es so komisch "Blinkt" wie im Video? Habe genau das selbe Problem und wünsche mir eine simple Polaritäts- Einstellungsmöglichkeit wie beim FXL8 Pro von Harley Benton zurück (der witzigerweise 500€ billiger ist als diese Kiste).
I have a Schecter Hellraiser. Here's a pic of the footswitch. The only difference is mine has a Reverb switch too. It connects to the amp with one cable. Henning, I have a Mesa Roadster (Channels 1-4, plus reverb, FX Loop, Solo, and Mute. The roadster foot switch is huge btw). The foot switch cable is an 8-pin DIN. So how do I connect the Roadster to the ES-8? Great video by the way, it's very informative, believe it or not!
There are several devices out there. The RJM Gizmodo and the Voodoo midi switcher are two. But outside of clean cables why spend the money if you dont need to?
Would it be possible to use your normal amp switch, wire it up to the ES-8 and use it to toggle between amp channels in every preset, but at the same time have a certain channel of the ampo coming up, whenever I switch to the preset? 'Cause I totally agree it is difficult to remember where you placed that possibility without having a sign. But if there is "only" an LED-ring, you might know there's something, but nevertheless forget what exactly. And on stage you'll be f***.

Does this information also apply to the Es-5? You know, I actually bought a simpler loop switcher to use while I learn how to use this F******G Boss unit. The manual assumes you already know how to use it! I am never buying Boss again. Never. My old Laney VC50 uses a MIDI-like configuration for the footswitch. 4 options: Channel/Drive/Drive/Reverb WTF do I do?
Question about the ES - 5. I am planning on getting a switcher. My chain is the following: Tuner - TC spark mini booster (loop 1) - Drive pedal (loop 2) - Delay pedal (loop 3) - Tremolo pedal (loop 4) - Reverb pedal (loop 5) I have a dual drive pedal that I like to mod with a TRS connection so I can control my 2 pedals independed. Can I use the ext ctl to connect this via the TRS connection so i can control the 2 sides of the pedal via this way? Thanks in advance!
