Two great pedals, one great vision. The Boss Blues Driver is one of the most popular drives ever produced and is found on countless pedal boards. The JHS Pedals Angry Charlie is a distortion introduced relatively recently and it too has earned itself go-to status. Individually they're usually indispensable and rarely sold on; together they're a force. Yoshi Ikegami (BOSS) and Josh Scott (JHS Pedals) have formed a co-op alliance with their respective companies to bring us the mighty Angry Driver, a hybrid of the Angry Charlie and BD-2 Blues Driver. I for one am grateful as the results are stunning and eminently useful. Watch, listen and go get one. Cheers.

A wonderful pedal. I hated the sound of it in all the videos on RU-vid but when I tried it in a shop I instantly loved it. Needs the remote switch for optimum effect. This is probably the best video of this pedal. Well done. I lived in Melbourne in 1997, great place! Fond memories.

I love this pedal. It’s an all around great rock/blues pedal, but that parallel mode is next level when heard in person. I set my Mesa Boogie DR’s clean channel to barley break-up and then slam parallel mode into it. It’s such a full sound I don’t even use the high gain modern channel anymore. Use the external switching while in parallel and you’ve got fantastic rhythm/lead metal channels. This is a very versatile pedal. I rethought my whole board after I got it.

No more green overdrive for me. For those complaining about the "sterile" sound, Brett's playing dry. No delay or reverb. Most of us don't like that, but he's demoing just the overdrive!

It's two pedals in one. Except you need a footswitch to toggle it in certain modes so you still have two pedals. I found it to be muddy. I went back to my stock BD-2 followed by a rat and germanium fuzz. To each his own.

Can you switch to jhs or boss or any series setting via remote control? Or the remote only switches jhs to boss vise versa? What I'm trying to say is that can I use the remote in a way like having the two original pedals where I can turn one on and the other off or stack the two. That mean I can have 3 options, jhs on or boss on or both are on.

Hmmm, opinions seem divided. I used to own a BD-2 but wasn't very impressed with it. But the 'Angry Charlie', being based on a Marshall Guv'nor, is a pedal I like every time I hear it. Clearly there is a vast range of tones on tap with the JB-2 and I confess it's the first Boss product I've heard in ages that I want to try.

I've tried the JB-2. In parallel, the low/low-mid of the BD-2 with the mid/high mid of the Angry Charlie really compliment each other to make a very fat sound.

Brett, fantastic as always. Have you taken the JHS Sweet Tea V3 for a spin? I'm torn between the Sweet Tea and Angry Driver. Specifically regarding the "Angry Charlie" side, curious as to whether you have any input about whether the "tone" knob on this is overly constraining as opposed to a 3-knob EQ on the Sweet Tea.

How is it that Brett seems to make everything sound good? Normally I do not like the Blues Driver at all, yet in this demo it sounds really good. The JHS half of the pedal sounded even better, and the stacked options were out of this world ! Well done, Brett.

Thank you, Marc. Confession: I have never owned a Blues Driver or even spent much time with one. So this was really my first excursion into the BD-2 and for that matter, the Angry Charlie. All I could do was dial up some tones that I liked and go for it. It wasn't hard at all. Great pedal, in my opinion.

Haha. True! (in my humble opinion). The Laney VH100R is one of the greatest unsung amps ever. I'm not sure they even produce it anymore.

Good observation! I like Boss Pedals...for what they are, however, my pedal board is made up of Strymon, JHS, and other boutique stuff....just sounds better. BUT, the Blues Driver 'was' one of my favorite Boss pedals that sounded amp like. I have the AC and the Timmons AC. Love em both! Actually, the OD pedal that stays on most of the time with me is the Timmy pedal.

+Handsoffmatt Sure? It would be the analog overdrive with the highest power consumption ever produced. Current draw is higher than most digital Boss pedals!

Id say eithe digital control or a fair few relays which would use a lot more power then a normal analog pedal. Rabea really shows how the switching works and however that is done is definately the advanced BOSS side of things.

No, I didn't feel that. It's definitely voiced with a cutting midrange, though; that's something I'd be welcoming on stage to shear through the din.

that is a cool pedal for sure. Keeley BD-2 mod is amazing! one of the best. If they took the Keeley Modded BD-2, then married it with the JHS angry charlie, you would have a BOSS/JHS/Keeley monster.

I have watched your reviews for a long time and i am a fan of your reviews and play style, however, this review was a big disappointment to me, i cant believe that you haven't touched the tone control on either side of the pedal and have not demonstrated its range of tone. One of the most important questions is how this single tone control for the angry charlie performs in relation to the original pedals, since none had a single tone control, and how it is voiced in relation. To be honest this review is a huge step back from your regular videos.

Just save a hundred bucks and buy a distortion pedal. That's really what you want if you think this sounds good. Overdrive pedals emulate the natural breakup of a tube amp. This is not that.

Sounds horrible, I must admit. Gritty, grainy and sterile. Is this the Metal Zone fore the 21st Century? I think it's the JHS I don't like. Very common hard rock sound you hear on TV adverts all the time! It's like ZZ Top stuck in gear and Van Halen trying to push the car!
