Following my first demo, several viewers asked about a further low-gain demo, so here it is. I've chosen a Strat with Kinman pickups and tried to keep both Gain controls below noon. The original demo can be viewed at • Boss & JHS Pedals: JB-...
Two great pedals, one great vision. The Boss Blues Driver is one of the most popular drives ever produced and is found on countless pedal boards. The JHS Pedals Angry Charlie is a distortion introduced relatively recently and it too has earned itself go-to status. Individually they're usually indispensable and rarely sold on; together they're a force. Yoshi Ikegami (BOSS) and Josh Scott (JHS Pedals) have formed a co-op alliance with their respective companies to bring us the mighty Angry Driver, a hybrid of the Angry Charlie and BD-2 Blues Driver. I for one am grateful as the results are stunning and eminently useful. Watch, listen and go get one. Cheers.

Software: Logic Pro X, Waves L3-16 Limiter (to keep levels in check at output), Apple Final Cut Pro X (video editing and RU-vid compression).

So far the best video I’ve seen about this pedal. Most guys are metal heads that just crank it up loud. You bring out the subtle nuances. Great job

I love this pedal. I got it a month ago and I’m never taking it off of the board. Fuzz and distortion sound mean as hell in front of it too, but the low-gain is sweet ... as demonstrated well here! ☮️

Brett plays that riff, and even the funky chord pattern at times, quite often when demoing low gain with a Strat. It is great to hear any nod to that track or even that album.

Amazing tones! The blues driver sounds great, then the angry Charlie comes in, both sound amazing, perfect choice having both in the same pedal!

I watched all the demos last year and didn't like it. So when I tried one two weeks ago in a music shop I was instantly blown away. I bought a used one in mint condition and I love it.

Nice demo Brett. The 'Blues Driver' side sounded really good when giving the Strat a little bit of extra push. I suspect that stacked into the 'Angry Charlie' side set with plenty of juicy drive would give a glorious lead tone.

AWESOME blues tone pedal! How did Boss NOT make the color of the pedal BLUE,...in keeping with the Blues Driver theme and respecting Josh Scott's love for the color blue?!? I was going to get the JHS Bonsai as my first JHS pedal,...but now MUST HAVE this BLUES TONE MASTERPIECE!

I have one, love the BD-2 more than I thought I would, but the Angry Chas side is too gainy for me. I would actually prefer to have an "old Charlie" and use the BD-2 circuit to push the Charlie in series mode... almost enough to flip this pedal for a BD-2, but I DO like the space-saving part. Humph. 1st World problems, amirite?

Boss has to make a deluxe version with 2 footswitches and choice of which pedal first.

I have one, the best sound is parallel with a lot of angry Charlie and a hint of cleanish bless driver, which on its own sounds like total ass at every possible setting, but there's literally no other way to get parallel od/distortion without bringing two amps and having two paths!!

Are there two separate volume controls for each mode? So one mode would be a rhythm channel while the other can be activated for more volume lead channel? If not .. why don't they bring back the {SD-2} Dual Overdrive pedal - it was their best one they ever made as it had two separate volume controls for lead and rhythm.

Each pedal mode has its own volume, so yes, you can use it like a 2-channel amp in that way.

They have to be noiseless pickups and low gain. I am going to be returning the one I got, the hum is unbearable once you add some gain when using single coils, specially on the angry charlie side.

Current draw on its own doesn't tell us very much. After all, the JHS Angry Charlie draws 100mA according to the company's manual and that pedal is all analogue!!

+Kevin Betts Yes I've seen that, too. But that's a typing error or a loose recommendation, as that circuit (Angry Driver, Bluesbreaker, Marshall Guv'nor, MI Crunchbox, they are all the same) works well with 10 mA. 50 mA is too much for an all analog pedal. If there are no digital parts in the signal chain, they might be part of the switching system. Boss doesn't say anything about it, which is a little suspicious...

I'd agree that it's very high. I just wonder whether Josh Scott likes to play very safe with his recommended current draws and has insisted Boss set it high for this pedal? Alternatively, if this is actually two pedal circuits in a single enclosure 50mA wouldn't be too far out of line. Boss rate the BD-2 at 20mA so both circuits stacked could pull close to twice that. I don't know, obviously, as there are other factors to consider that I'm ignorant of. All I'm thinking at the moment is this pedal has some very nice tones in it and exactly how those tones are generated isn't something I'm worried about, interesting though it is to discuss.
