Hey. So i've tested an MS-3 and it works int he effects loop allowing you to run Four cable method. (Just note you may need a ground lift box as there is not one inside) Simpy use one of the external loops and you can hook up your amps pre-amp into the MS-3 allowing you to route effects into the front end or the amps effects loop. If you use loop 3. Everything that comes before it in the signal chain will run into the front end and everything after will run into the loop. The entire signal chain order is switchable (you just can't add things between loops 1, 2 and 3) this means you can program the MS-3 to work exactly how you want it to. Hope this helps.

Matt Knight, does the Ms-3, in this specific sittuation of 4cm through the loop 3 you've mentioned, has the loop 3's selectable amount of send or return level/gain in order to better match this unit with real amps with parallel fx loop (like my marshall jcm 2000 tsl 601)? thanx and would appreciate so much your answer.

Exactly! Works fantastic with the BluGuitar AMP1 with 4-cable method! It shines in this type of rig. You can control the Amp1 as well from ms-3 and have multiple preamps in the 3 loops returning to your tube amp power section. Great pc gear indeed!

25 Nov 2015 - me to my friend who does short runs of electronic equipment. "The 'looping device' (ES8) needs refining - everyone needs a tuner and power supply - why aren't they built into one device? It also needs an XLR output and, possibly, 100(maybe 200) watts of power amp. A complete doddle, if you had the marketing department to sell the product." The ideas on the MS-3 aren't new - they're just 1st to market with the combination, which is a bit obvious. Mine could have been on the market this time last year, but the set-up costs, to make it look 'not homemade', were beyond us. The MS-3 is essentially a cut down Helix/Amplifire12 with more external effect loops - I'm amazed it doesn't have the option of balanced line output to desk (with cab free output to stage amp). Also - why no 9V power x3 for your looped pedals? The majority of us have centre negative 9V, low draw, pedals which could easily be supplied from the unit.

It's not even the first to market the combination of features. Units like the TC G-System did most of this years ago but it was obviously aimed at a different demographic and was monstrous compared to the much smaller MS-3. The Helix did this too. The difference is that these were effects units that incorporated additional loops for stomp boxes and did some switching while the MS-3 is a compact switcher that has built-in effects. Cool stuff either way!

Years ago I had a Boss processor called ME-X. Somewhat similar to MS3. I could use 3 Boss pedals along with the Mukti FX, all fitted in carrying case like BCB 6 . Beautiful!!

Very versatile, wow. This pedal screams buy me at the tiny-rig professionals, but I can see beginners being left in the dark due to the price, which is a shame, because the format, multi fx and pedal switching power of this alone would be an excellent starting point for many players. Still, if I was a beginner and I was going to pick one nice pedal instead of a bunch of cheaper ones, I'd go with this right now, this isn't just another multi-fx, it's sort of like a baby GigRig. Someone go tell Dan that Boss is pinching all of his ideas, he'll love that.

Oh man! I was eyeing the ES5 or 8 and determined I didn't really need that many loops with my simple set up but this changes everything! With the effects I can drop my board down to my favorite 3 OD and boost easily maybe a Dm2w if the onboard delays aren't to my liking!

Awesome Pedal ! Would it be possible to use the delay and reverb in the pedal through the effects loop on my amp though ? in other words, would I be able to use this in some sort of 4 cable method (perhaps by sacrificing one of the loops to capture the pre gain section of my amp) ?

I have 2 questions: 1) Does it have the possibility to change the order of the loops like the ES8/ES5 do? if yes, can I route the Fx (even the loops) in parallel/series? 2) Is the audio path always converted in digital? like if everything is in bypass or I only use the 3 analog loops that I have?

Hi! Thanks for the great explanation on Kemper's setting. I just have a doubt related with the stereo output of the MS-3: If you want a Stereo signal, how did you connect it from the MS-3 into the Kemper, since it just has one mono input? Is it possible or am I possibly missing something?

Nice video. I have one arriving today and soaking all info. The one thing i want to do is hook my evh lunch to toggle between clean dirty with effects also. The boss video shows just a cable from unit to footswitch on amp will do it without external switch?.if i needed and external switch why bother when amp has one.not sure what I'm missing

I was thinking of using my Xotic Sp compressor in ch1, Wampler SLO in ch 2, Catalinbread DLS and Bogner RED ecstacy in ch 3. I mostly use the Wampler SLO stortion for a solo boost for any of the other overdrives. I have a few songs where I use the Catalinbread in low gain mode and add the Bogner. But, I often mostly use the Bogner Red Ecstacy. I wonder if you can program boosts to any preset?

I had been looking at the ES-8, but this seems like an option for the better control/cleaning up my signal path that I've been looking for. I just wish we had a few more loops to play with, especially if one loop ends up dedicated to the effects loop. 2 loops isn't enough for what I have in mind, even with the built in processor. I would have preferred a midi In as well so I can place another Midi board in front of it dedicated to patch switching, while leaving this unit in Stompbox on/off mode. As long as I'm building a wish list, Stereo in/out on at least one loop would be nice too. How long before Boss comes out with the Ms-6?

I have a question: could you have the 4 switches on the MS-3 set as manual mode switches (as if they were stompboxes to turn on and of on the fly the in-build effects on that certain preset, - midi cc continuous control) and connect an external midi foot controller (such as a MidiMate or others) to the MS-3 with let's say 10 switces to wich you can assign 10 different presets (midi pc program changes)? So in other words, I'll be pressing a button on the external midi controller to change preset and use the switches on the MS-3 to turn on and off the effects of that preset.

Hey Bea! I've this question in mind regarding the use of BOSS MS-3 as Kemper's footcontroller, particularly the expression parameters in Kemper. To be more specific, can we program the MS-3, and its own expression input to control, for instance, the wah or any CC parameter in Kemper, just by plugging the expression pedal into the MS-3, rather than directly connecting the expression pedal into the Kemper. In short, will the MS-3 + a short stereo jack and, of course, an expression pedal suffice, I dont want an extra long cable separately going into the Kemper. Has anyone thought about that? Any comment is much appreciated, cheers folks! (PS: the new Tech 21 Midi Mongoose has that option, I guess)

Tue MS3 cuts off Delay and Reverb trails when you change presets. There is the curnum function that allows to have only two snapshots/scenes within one preset without cutting trails. But when you change the preset then trails are cut off again. Is there a way to create more than two snapshots (for ex example in manual mode)? Or is manual mode not able to simultaneously turn on and off multiple FX by the mere push of ONE button?

I have Boss Delay DD-3, Reverb FRV-1, Super Shifter PS-5, Distortion DS-1, Super Overdrive SD-1, Metal Zone MT-2, and some pedals by other companies. Would this essentially replace most of those? I'm needing a noise suppressor, but thinking it would make more sense to get this and maybe sell on the individual pedals and only keep my non-Boss pedals?

Can you run things like compressors and volume pedals before the loops to get more out of it. What I wanna do is go guitar into volume into compressor then into the input of the ms3. While running 2 dirt and a fuzz into the loops. + expression

It can run in 4CM - Just use loop three. Everything put before Loop 3 runs into the front end, everything after runs into the effects loop. Just tried it in the office. You just need something to lift the ground incase you get some noise

In that intro piece, Reb made a few switches on the MS-3, but I could barely tell the difference. A heavy guitar put into a produced (bass, drums, etc) track just doesn't need a lot of effects. And, this thing costs $400!

Is it possible to control the channel of two amps? You can run it in stereo is it possible to change the channel of both amps? Or set one patch with both amps clean, and one patch with both amps dirty?

Rebea I heard recently it's possible to set up the loop function from the Kemper Rempote. Rec/Play/Overdub: CC#99 V125, CC#98 V88, CC#06 V0, CC#38 V1 (on press), V0 (on release) Stop/Erase:CC#99 V125, CC#98 V89, CC#06 V0, CC#38 V1 (on press), V0 (on release) Is it possible to do a tutorial on how to set up on the boss ms 3? Is it possible to use it as a midi switch and the internal effects simultaneously? As in add the boss effects on top of the kemper assigns or it's just one or the other? For example patch 1- kemper gain + boss drive and ns 2- kemper clean + boss verb 3-kemper gain + boss ns + verb + pitch 4- kemper gain + yadde yadde..?

Does it have it's own compressor? I have been trying to find a complete list of fx. I may just set up some banks with fx for my B rig and use my stereo fx from my rig A setup.

I'm just concerned about using this with my 6505 plus. Ihave a podhd500x and i get a ground loop using 4cable method...Also I lose a lot of dynamics because the analog conversion compresses my signal so much...how transparent is the MS-3?

if sweetwater had these in stock i would of already bought one. im glad these came out bc i was about to buy the JOYO PXL LIVE which is just a loop switcher and channel switcher but this is just a much better version of that yes its double the price but well worth it for all it does
