For those having trouble getting the MS3 to respond to your pedal, try going into preferences in the system menu. Choose Patch instead of system for the EXP pedal. Remember to select momentary when you assign the expression pedal, like Neil said. It works well!
@@NeilSpencerBruce 🎸🎸🙏 Thank you for doing these. I liked your faux bass idea with the ring mod too! I also heard a comment from you about the unit not having a looper. It does have the Hold feature in the Tera Echo which is good for your chord washes or a quick staccato line. I use the expression pedal to set the expression level and the num4 button to turn on/off the Hold feature in that Tera delay. Next I'm going to find a way to change the quick loop level after you engage it. The MS-3 is quite a broad palette to get your sounds with. Thanks!

@@NeilSpencerBruce Hi Neil! I just figured out a cool wah thing. Instead of using the WAH, use the touch wah, which is an old school mutron filter thing, BUT, turn the sensitivity down all the way in the effect menu so there's no touch response, Turn the peak to 55%. NEXT: go to ASSIGN and select source to EXP 1/ mode to MOMENT/ target category to FX1 T.WAH/ target. to 25 and 100 for max for I don't need that much resonant bass. Next set the active setting to around 35 and 100. Should feel like a real wah but with a more pronounced resonance. The throw of the pedal is probably specific to my pedal. It's way fatter than the fat wah. The Crybaby is okay but sounds a little weak. The Vox is all wrong. I have a Vox and it isn't that thin
Hi Spencer, great tutorial. I have the same pedal, but I have a latency problem. The Boss MS - 3 doesn't respond immediately. And it´s the same case if you use either the wah or the pedal bend or volume. How could it be solved?. Thanks again, and please keep on making more videos. What about a "wahmmy" made with the MS-3?

HI Neil. Love the channel and your ms-3 videos have really helped me get the most out of my ms-3. This video led me to question i haven't been able to solve. I have an expression pedal that I have been using exclusively for a foot volume pedal. I have the pedal set to full volume all the way and 50 percent volume "heel down". And that's all i do with it. It occurred to me that if assign an effect parameter to the the EXP, can i have one of the buttons of my CTRL IN assigned to toggle the foot volume between 50% and 100%?

I know this is an old comment but you can control other pedals with a foot switch input by assigning activation range for toe up/ toe down to activate the control out, I use this to activate the expression pedal as a volume pedal whenever my Amp is on the dirty channel.
Hi Bruce Q; I have an analog shimmer pedal assigned to L3 Loop of my Boss MS-3. I am trying to get my Boss EV-30 to control the volume/output of the shimmer pedal in L3. Can you only assign the EV-30 to onboard pedals in the MS-3? Cheers from Niagara
Hi Neil - Thank you so much for all the time you put in to your great videos. I recently got an MS-3 and want to control the delay effect level from my expression pedal (a la Andy Timmons). I followed everything you did here, and can't seem to get it to work. I have a Mission Engineering EP1-L6 that worked fine with both my Pod HD500 and my TC Nova System. DO yo think that pedal just may not be compatible with the Boss?
Hi Doug, thanks for watching and your kind words. Congratulations on your MS-3, I am sure you will love it. Just to check you are using TRS cable? There is a chance looking at the website that it might not be compatible, but I would be surprised as it is a pretty simple operation which occurs. I will investigate more.
Thanks Neil - Yes, I even tried a couple different TRS cables, thinking that the cable may be bad. I came across an MS-3 message board and asked there, and one of the admins said that the Line 6 specific pedal (which is the one I have) does not work with the Boss. I think I'll just have to pick up a new expression pedal. Thanks again for your help.
@@dougvennard2677 that is good to know. But what a pain for you. It seems surprising given that all these expression pedals are, are a potentiometer circuit with variable resistance. There are a couple of good inexpensive EP;s that you can find, so hopefully the cost won't be too much. All the best, Neil
Hi! Can the expression pedal going into my MS-3 control pedals in the Loops of the MS-3, and pedals that my MS-3 connects to by MIDI (TimeLine/Mobius/Zelzah/BigSky)?
@@NeilSpencerBruce it would be cool to effect pedals in the loops in a similar way, but my priority is being able to use the Expression/Volume (and Wah since it's a Soul Press 2 that does all 3 functions) pedal with my strymons, through midi, with the MS-3. I also want to do this with my tap tempo switch. I'm not sure which EXP jack the EXP/VOL/WAH should go in, and which one the Tap Tempo (Side Step) should go in, especially since the Expression Pedal will also be running through the Side Step. Hi Neil. Another question about the MS-3 if I may?! I use two Mesa Lonestar Specials in a stereo rig but would like to send my tremolo to just one amp and leave the other amp uneffected (wet/Dry). Is it possible to send a trem effect out through one output only?? Thanks for your help once again! Andy

You could if you ran a wet/dry set up, which would send all of you modulation and delay reverb through the effects loop of one amp. Check out four cable method wet/dry. That Pedal Show has an extensive amount of info on this topic. It's insanely complicated, but it might be worth it.
Hi Jaun, thanks for watching. I use the output on the expression pedal (both) and then either CTL IN 1 or 2 on the MS3. You need to use a TRS Split cable to connect. Hope that helps. All the best, Neil
hello, .. i have an MS3 and i am so frustrated by these expression assignment protocols... i cant make heads or tails of any of it because i try to do everything folks like you say but it never works and there are so many combinations i just think i have some thing set wrong and i cant figure it out... i am trying to assign my delay effect level to my expression 2... but apparently i keep getting it wrong... this is 35+ yrs of guitar experience here with a back ground on using countless boss and line 6 and digitech and zoom and nuux and mooer etc... multi effects pedals... im no novice to this stuff but i cant figure this out to save my life... my expression pedal works cuz it controls the volume already... but i am also trying to assign it to the delay effect level... but part of my confusion lies in deciding what delay to set it to... i have multiple choices... delay, delay 1 and delay 2... ive tried to assign all of them at one point but none of them worked... all in the expression 2 jack... i have a boss fs 7 in expression 1 jack being used as control pedals for chorus and flange... simple on/off toggles... working just fine... so i want to be able to use the expression to add and remove delay effect levels instead of simply turning it on and off... i also have a primary delay with a single slap that is my main ambient background sound.. that one i just want to remain a simple on off set at a quick 222 milliseconds with a single slap... this secondary delay i want to have a broad range of control over with my feet... i have tap tempo set up to it so i can match the tempo to whatever the song is we are playing and i want to be able to bring it forward or pull it back as i see fit during solos and general playing... but for the life of me it just wont work... is this too much for this processor... am i simply setting something up wrong... i just dont get it... or is this thing broken or compromised and i cant tell?... please make a video assigning DELAY parameters to expression pedals.... i see this vid is a year and a half old already... if you see this and can help id appreciate it... tx peace
Hi there, thanks for watching. I hope I might be able to help with some of these issues. Have you switched EXP2 FV off? (see page 31 of the manual). You can the use an Assign with Source = EXP2 and Target = Delay E level (that will be your main delay. See if that works first). You will also need to use SUb Delay under FX1 or FX2 to get your additional delay. I will try and make a video about this next week explaining it. All the best, Neil
Hello Neil thank you for all your tutorials on the Boss MS3, I'd like to configure en expression pedal to control a wah wah, but in the way the wah activates only when I touch the expression pedal, and then desactivates when I remove my foot. Would it be possible ?

@@NeilSpencerBruce seems like you can assign On|Off parameter for WAH effect with CURRENT NUMBER event in MS3. Works like - lets say youre on patch 1 with no WAH. Press 1 again - and WAH is on. Press 1 again - WAH is off
