Revisiting this video; great example of what the SY-1000 can do without the GK. One correction: using the Normal guitar input of the SY-1000, you have access to the DYNAMIC SYNTH which is similar to the SY-300; i.e., you have access to some, limited synth features without the GK. I use this to add a synth pad behind my guitar when playing chords, which I can toggle on and off. FWIW, I have both the SY-1000 and GT-1000, can get the guitar tones I need from the SY-1000 and selling the GT-1000. The SY-1000 does everything I need, with or without a GK (I use both).
Sounds really good. Maybe this is just a starting point for the amp modeling and the additions you're talking about will be added later. Modelers these days pretty much have to have those features to be competitive. Plus, I know of at least one Boss artist that watches your channel. 😉
I mean if you need amp modelling and nothing else, the Gt-1000 would be the BOSS unit to get. However, adding IR capability to this thing would be huge!
I think you have valid points in regard to being able to have at least a minimal library of 3rd party IR's...I've never used any on my Helix, but I have heard people online use examples online and have heard some great examples...and if you have found a few that you really love, you don't want to be blocked...having said that, programs in these units can usually be updated/ changed to accommodate the desires of the customers...hopefully they can update it in the future to be able to load IR's into it...hey, if I got one of these, I would absolutely use it 90% for the amp capability, using a 13 pin equipped guitar (I use alternate tunings on the fly when I play out, and the only way I know to do that is either with a Variax/ Variax compatible pedal (Helix. Firehawk, etc) or a Roland 13 pin pedal and a guitar 13 pin equipped (Like a GK or a Graph Tech Ghost setup with Hexpander)...anyway, so absolutely glad you are covering this pedal specifically hitting on it's amp tonal capability...thanks for making this one and hope you and yours are well!
Thanks for the video Leon, it was really useful. I am looking at the SY1000 as a 'goldilocks' unit betweee the GT1000 (too big) and GT1000Core (too small). The video makes me think it has everything I'd need. Wish they added pedalboard mode from the GT1000 firmware update though.
So…. Did you pull the trigger? Just wondering if it’s got enough built in for you or what…? (I just realized it has amp sims and other effects like an hour ago so I’m hovering over the buy now button) I’m trying to simplify and was originally thinking SY 1000 -> GT1000 or helix -> Boomerang.
@@LeonTodd Start at Patch 48-1 for the patches supplied that are using 'just' the regular guitar (via the 1/4" input) PLUS adding in the Dynamic Synth engine.
Are you still using the SY-1000? I picked one up last month since I've always been interested in synth guitar (I developed a guitar->USB interface for my engineering thesis). Would love to share some patches or ideas, there's not a lot of stuff out there... Also, regarding the initialization... not sure if it's available in the app or not as I haven't tried it, but on the unit itself you can save "variations" of every block which kind of act like the block library does on the Axe-FX.
Can I ask if any of you owners of this machine also use it as an ordinary amp/effects unit with an ordinary electric guitar? And is it working great for this purpose as well, in comparison to GT 1000 or other multieffect stomp boxes?
HHello, is there any difference in "AMP modeling" sound quality when output of standard pickups goes through GK-3 system + 13 pin “MIDI” cable (Roland GKC) to “GK in” input of Boss SY-1000 and when output of standard pickups goes direct to “Guitar input” of Boss SY-1000? Thank you very much.
Damn, I really want one of these SYs but these amps really suck, especially compared to the Fractal… or even the 2001 POD. Anyways, as usual, thanks for posting.
So completely unrelated to this vid but... there’s a model in the ax8 that you made with the atomica and it was 3 scenes with PEQ, Delay, phaser, and reverb along the top row. I was gonna ask if there was some way you could possibly make the same preset on the axe 3? It would help me a ton if not I totally understand 👍🏻 have a great day Leon!! 😎
Hey Leon , i just saw a topic in gearpage, a guy tells that ^^A fter using the SY-1000 alone for a while, I really noticed a big difference in the GT-1000, for guitar stuff alone of course--it sounds much better than the SY-1000. I even set the same amp model up in each device exactly the same way, and the GT-1000 sounds quite a bit better^^ Can you confirm this? Since i am going between them.
@@LeonTodd Thanks. Guys on the VG club say that it runs slow on their computers ( macs ) I have a W10 laptop that I put the editor on and it seemed OK. ( I dont have the pedl yet and have been hesitant because of all the issues theyve been complaining about. Good to know it works. Thanks.
Would this be an alternative to Helix? If the speaker/amp simulations are as good as Helix/Kemper, this one would have a lot of extra features for the buck. Anyone tested them against each other?
Biggest issue I have with cosm models is getting good mids out of them. All the cab and mic parts seem to focus on bass and treble. Add to that the full range speakers don't exactly pump out mids either even though they technically should.
@@volkergoldfu2272 yeah, but I kinda need an amplified signal to record it dawless. should I need an Iridium kind of pedal after it? (which is amp AND modeller). In other words, can SY-1000 fully replace it? because if it can, used price could be pretty much justified. Dawless = no use for the usb feature you mentioned.
