Boston Baked Beans in a Ditch or Something 

I see this video has already lost a subscriber! Any guesses as to what drove them away? 1) It wasn't technically a ditch? 2) The fake bacon? 3) The music during the tarp setup scene? 4) Tring? 5) The shocking declaration that I can't be bothered with straight horizons...?

Tweedy - sorry to hear you're in the mood of "what's the point". The point for me is that you take me into the English countryside and pubs with your unique and interesting viewpoints, which is wonderful. I truly enjoy your videos. That was quite entertaining. Who would've thought watching a tweed-clad gentleman cook baked beans and drink wine between fields would be.

Paths or roads with tree cover growing over are often considered haunts of the devil in Ireland. My grandfather's cottage had such a tunnel of vegetation nearby on the road between Lisquinlan and Ballymacoda. My Grandfather's brother Pats called in one night for a few whiskeys. He left the cottage and returned almost immediately having been accosted by the devil in on the road. He needed several more whiskies before being strong enough to venture home, escorted by my grandfather who carried a blackthorn stick to ward off any more devils.

I've been watching your London pub stuff for ages, then, after becoming unwell (definitely not related to your channel!) found myself bedbound for a week. The outdoors and wine channels are brilliant. I find it very entertaining when you pair a very decent Burgundy with something cooked in the Billy! Keep up the fantastic incongruity. Wine first, grub later always been my motto. My preference is for a left bank bordeaux; enjoyed a very pleasant, if a bit strange, trip to Fronsac before covid. Ended up taking plenty of really good stuff back with us that's drinking well now. If ever you're in Woking, I'll dig a few Fronsacs out and we can do a walk. Oh, another thing that intrigued me: Pangbourne. I worked there, too, ages ago. 2004. I probably either worked with you or drank with you!

Bacon , beans and Hendersons match made in heaven. Being a Sheffield lad I used to get this for lunch on toast at least once a week.

Looks good Tweedy. When I was a teenager I just added something like that to two slices of bread and smothered in grated cheese! Good all round meal! 🇬🇧 🇳🇿

Sorry to hear that the pubs videos aren't performing as good as expected yet. Personally, you are inspiring me and the missus to drag ourselves from our local (The White Horse or "Nellies" in Beverley), to tour the London/Lewes, etc. location's. Don't forget, on occasion you have beat Jooles Guides to it in several videos. Anyway, I would hate to think that the brolly would be redundant in any way. Seriously keep it all going and cheer us all up during these dodgy times. P.S Look up Nellies, apart from the Sam Smiths thing, it's a bit of a find.

Thoroughly enjoyable as ever, despite not being a day long adventure. It is a good illustration of the importance of getting out into the countryside for a bit of a reset. I must admit though, whilst you were sitting in that long grass I was nervously cuddling my tick twister...

I ploughed my way through all of your vlogs last week. Extremely entertaining, occasionally quirky but that's what makes it different. I also tend towards the more classic wardrobe whilst out in the hills (Central Scotland), occasionally get strange looks when you're the only person wearing a waistcoat on the West Highland Way with a pair of sturdy brogues. More of a malt whiskey man myself though ...

As ever I learnt something that would help me if I ever went wild camping. Which I won’t, but it’s still good to know! No idea that you couldn’t cook in a tin anymore due to plastic linings. It’s health and safety gone mad! I liked your wild luncheon spot - it looked very wild, in fact. Sometimes it’s hard to leave spots like that!

Hi John, to hell with horizontal horizons!! Wonderful piece of panning to the sky!! This what I like about you and your channels you don't take yourself too seriously and yet you express yourself perfectly throughout and provide us with a wonderful dose of humour, I learn a lot as you go along too. I think bean stews are my favourites we often eat cocido, which is with chickpeas and fabada which is with broad beans. My favourite paella also has a bean in its recipe, the garrafon. The fabada uses smoked chorizo, smoked belly pork and smoked black pudding, you cook it with a whole head of garlic (just peel away the outer skin). I must say I liked the mix of ingredients in your stew, maybe not the 'bacon' but it sounds like it had good flavour. The good thing is that you can cook it on the go, I use a pressure cooker for the stews I mentioned and you would need a larger stove (or a camp fire). Im off to hear the tasting notes and see the other video. All the best!!

We were both on different parts of the Ridgeway this Tuesday, but it's a bit of a misnomer for the stretch between Wallingford and Goring that I was walking, and which broadly follows the course of the Thames; and incidentally is a much nicer path between the two towns than following the Thames Path proper on the opposite bank. Don't worry about straight horizons, with the curvature of the Earth are any of them!

The only thing missing would be the bit where you whip out the cutting board and chop the onions and variety of peppers. Baked Beans in a Ditch. I could manage that. But yesterday I was on a Notting Hill London Walk and Pubs with my brother. All very Good.

Thrilled to see this being cooked as I went to Texas for the eclipse and brought back a tin of Ranch Beans. I'm going to make this recipe, as soon as I find out what mollases are.... I was also feeling oddly sad yesterday and how right you are about getting outside to sweep away the ennui....is that the word?

Enjoyed that, nothing wrong with a short walk in lovely countryside and cooking something. Could improve it only by using a Trangia :)
