I suppose we are all very used to the Sussmayer flowing seamlessly. Levin's reconstruction of the 2nd part of the Benedictus, and the lead in to the new Sanctus has the feeling of being more disjointed - maybe his intention? Depends what sources he had to work on. It reminds me of Mozart's own reworking/insertion of the last two arias of 'Davidde Penitente' whilst the remainder of the score is transposed unchanged from the Great C minor Mass. The soloists are lovely (some stalwarts of Boston Baroque here) and guide us well through the surprises. I still remain attached to the maligned Sussmayer though.

Süssmayr was a freaking genius! Who else could have made it sound better, or more like Mozart? :-)

Benedictus (from Mozart's Requiem) "Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini,1 Benedictus qui venit, qui venit, Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini, Benedictus, benedictus qui venit in nomine, Qui venit in nomine Domini Benedictus, benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini Benedictus qui venit, qui venit, Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis, Hosanna in excelsis, in excelsis! Benedictus qui venit in nomine, nomine Domini, Hosanna in excelsis, in excelsis Hosanna in excelsis, in excelsis, in excelsis, in excelsis!"

Whose completion is this, the Hosanna fugue sounds nothing like Sussmayer's?
