@@daveking9393 Boston actually put out 6 studio albums plus a greatest hits . The first two are the best , then some members left and others passed away. I have all of these albums. There were also some side projects from some band members . Orion the Hunter was one project
The vocals on the album tracks blend so well because Brad was singing all the parts on the first two albums at least. Very talented vocalist, and as has been mentioned, a tragedy that he lost his life to depression and suicide.
I keep tellin' you, man!: There is no "they" when it comes to the vocals. That is ALL Brad Delp! ALL of it!!!!! ...Delp harmonizing with himself, doubling his vocal tracks and creating sounds that you think are made by guitars and other instruments, but using his vocal cords, head and resonant body cavities/spaces. !!!! ...I'm not sure how they did it live [I think I recall that Barry Goodreau and Fran Sheehan, both, sang some backgrounds ...maybe I'm off on that 🤷♂️🤷♂️] ...but: "studio-side"???: It was ALL, 100%, Mr. Bradley Delp. "Beam me up Delpy": Vocal transporter mechanism: engaged! 🤘😛🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
T. Andra Brad Delp, Sib Hashian, Barry Goudreau, and (sometimes, most early footage I’ve seen) Fran Sheehan all sang for that beautiful harmonic vocal sound live! Even Tom Scholz had a mic and would join in on some of their choruses live, like “Party”. I still maintain that the original Boston lineup selected to reproduce those amazing Scholz studio recordings was one of the most talented line up of musicians! Their live guitar and vocal harmonies were SO GOOD!

@@n5g22 Hey!! Yeah! Now that you mention it, I believe I DO recall Hashian singing too (one of my favorite drummers, as well. ...and the first Armenian-American rocker I ever heard of!! 😁😁👍)! Thanks, man!!!! - I had never, really, seen them play in this time-period ...and, although, I knew that Delp was (99."x"%!) the only guy singing on the recordings ...I never, really, considered how they might have done things in a live setting (esp. with a perfectionist like Scholz leading the charge!)! Cool!!!🤘🤘 - And there is NO question that the musicianship of that band was ...often, not given due respect. A lot of musicians (& particularly: generally, less musically-educated/-astute fans!) only considered "hard-core" prog.-rockers, along the lines of, say🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ ...the players in: Yes ...King Crimson ...Emerson, Lake & Palmer, etc. to be "real musicians" - "upper echelon skill-level" and so-forth. ...or, maybe, guys like Ritchie Blackmore, who, really brought neo-classicism to the table, as far as rock guitar is concerned! ...More "radio-friendly," mainstream bands, such as Boston (the band SO cool they named a city after them!" 😜😂😂😂👍👍 - Always loved that one! 💜😁) and their ilk, were, generally, NOT thought-of in the same manner/offered the same respect. - NOT that they weren't DESERVING!!! ...but the melodicism of and "easy-to-swallow" popularity and "commonality" of the music, at surface-level (esp. @ a time when: Rock 'n' Roll or "Rock music" was, still, considered, in MANY ways: "a fad." "A passing trend." "Something not worthy of great respect." ...a part of youth-culture and teenage "silliness" ...only useful for: marketing or "the frivolous pursuits of childhood" ...or, even: "dangerous" -esp. as: the generation who had, with force of numbers, essentially!, "brought it out of the woodwork" were seen in many corners of the nation as, solely: "radicals," "hippies," etc. ...and representative of everything that had "gone wrong with the nation" & representative of a threatening & useless "counter-culture" or other perspectives. 🔥😛- ) led to, both: the average listener and the reviewer/"cultural analyst" to, often, not look much further than that "surface level." ...plus: in some ways, the other musicians (to some degree, due to Scholz's -then burgeoning- ego; also!) were, sort-of, "invisible." As a kid who read & studied album covers and absorbed radio D.J.s information & conversation, ...I could have named most, or all, of them, on a given day 😜😜 ...but ask any average person on the bus if they knew who Boston's lead guitarist was?? Likely they would not have ...and IF they had said anything, they, likely, would have said "Tom Scholz" (not: Barry Goodreau). ...so, yeah: as popular as the band became ...it was easier to be "a little invisible" in the public eye, back then!!😛😛 [Also: "Celebrity press" and the entire surrounding miasma -which, NOW, seems an "everyday part of life"🙄🙄🤦♂️ (sadly!)- was, actually, not, really EXISTENT when Boston appeared. Sure: Celebrity magazines & all of that "Hollywood" stuff had existed ...even back into the '30s & '40s ...but it wasn't "universal" or widespread! ...it was relegated to a tiny, disrespected corner, for "bored housewives" and "weirdos" - pretty much! It, ACTUALLY, exploded into prominence, with studio 54 ...circa: 1978 (& up) [arguably, late '77??🤷♂️). Facts.👍👍] ...But, regardless all of that: You're absolutely correct!!!! THIS, early, band was SPECTACULAR & gifted, even! (By the time of: Third Stage, Delp, I believe, had lost some of his highest upper-range (I forget if he had surgery - I believe, later, he did ...I cannot recall the details @the moment. 🤦♂️ (Sorry)- to correct issues/damage??) &, if I'm not mistaken: Gary Pihl (who was brought in as a touring member, to fill Goodreau's position, actually) was executing the ultra-highs, on stage! ...So: There were threads of ...terrible things, even then. 😢😢 ....Sad.) -Thanks, again: N 5G!!!!🤘🤘
Jamel I love your reactions I think you are just a great bloke and you feel the music Boston have so much Joy in their music its perfect fit for you as you're trying to give so much joy to your subscribers love you man ......
I'm gonna have to pile on with the requests for "A Man I'll Never Be". One of Boston's very best, but never seems to get as much attention as it deserves. If there's one song that really showcases Brad Delp's extraordinary vocal abilities, this is it.
Once again for this second album, Scholz plays most of the instruments and it was recorded in his home studio. Still there's more tracks with other band members this time around. I really like the title track "Don't Look Back".
Love Boston! Teenage memories!! If you get a chance check out ELO( more memories) Electric light orchestra! Sweet Talkin Woman , Turn To Stone, Evil Woman, Don't bring me down!! 😁
Good Lord, Jamel! Seger and Boston on the same night?? Stankface Friday!!! Gotta do Don’t Look Back...Happy Friday - BTW those harmonies are ALL the late, great Brad Delp - not a ton of live stuff from the band, but here’s a good quality one for “A Man I’ll Never Be”: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gZxP3bMn0as.html
ym61 yeah multi track to death Boston was pretty much just those two guys locked in the studio for years Tom and brad. The other guys where pretty much live only.
This album came out in late 1976, I was a senior in high school. Every song was a hit. I didn't know any of my friends who did not have this. Killer music!!
My dad graduated high school in 76 and is a guitar player. This music has been with me in utero! It's part of me, even though I was born in 84. It's great any time I hear it. I can conjure up a snapshot of just about any point in my life and Boston and other classic bands are right there.
This tune is unreal live, I've seen their las two tours. All those riffs are just perfect, and being the band Boston live, the vox are spot on. But those riffs, to see Tom Scholz and Gary Pihl play those together, especially the last time through. I mean, just unbelievable, takes you out of you body really, you don't want it to ever end...ever. I think they know that's what it does. Wish they were still touring. Great tune.

Those harmonies are all one man, the late great Brad Delp. Early in his career he performed in the original Broadway production of "Hair". A supremely talented vocalist never given his due by the music industry establishment (much like the band itself). This is why I love seeing YT reactions to Boston songs, so a wider audience and younger generation is exposed to this great music. Your next Boston reactions should be "A Man I'll Never Be" and "The Launch / Cool the Engines". Thanks, Jamel, and keep it going!
The first time I heard Boston, I was about 15-16 and I was completely blown away by their musician ship. I have nothing but great memories when I hear Boston. Yes I am satisfied!!!
Can you imagine growing up when Boston is dropping these bombs, Zepplin,Floyd, Rush, Sabbath, Seger, Arrosmith, Jgiels, Cooper, Stones, Faces, Who, all dropping their own bombs at the same time. Can you understand why kids my age had a certain expectation for music the those who came after for the most part couldnt keep up with.
I remember the first time I listened to Boston, holy cow, it blew my mind. I was 17 years old and I never realized music could sound like that. To this day they are at the top of my most favorite music list
A big part of what you’re enjoying about Boston is the result of meticulous engineering and perfectly mixed tracks.... this is why it took Tom Scholz forever to produce 3 albums and the record label threatened to sue him unless he fulfilled the contract.
That whole story behind the lawsuit is an interesting read. There was an unofficial Boston website that had a lot of information about it (I don't know if it's still around or not).
I was fortunate enough to have seen Boston live... that guitar / spaceship came down as they were playing. I also saw Parliament Funkadelic.... also arrived in a spaceship. I'm old, but I wouldn't change a thing because I've seen the best of the best.
Honestly, Honestly, is there really ANYTHING better than “Feeling Satisfied” from Boston when you driving fast on the highway! This shit knocks me out! These guys deliver the power rock like NO ONE ELSE PERIOD! Really was a magical time with forever, magical music! 🤩
Good point on the harmony. Boston was one of the first bands to incorporate such intricate harmonies not just with the vocals, but with the guitars. Tom Scholz was a true genius from MIT. I recall my first listen of Boston 1 in high school and I instantly loved it.
This is easily my most favourite Boston song (tied with "More Than A Feeling"). It was also my first introduction to them many years ago. My friend Charles had it cranking on his boom box while we were off to the beach in his pickup truck with the rest of the gang. I was like "Damn! Who wuzzat? Let's hear that again!", and soon afterwards I ordered both Boston albums that were available at that time. Even on a boom box it sounds great! And the track always brings back good memories whenever I hear it.
J....you have no idea how much joy it puts in my heart to see people come into the fold as a fan of Boston, discovering the incredible sound of their work. You have no idea...and I have no words to express it...other than to say welcome to the music of my youth, and the music I still love. Enjoy.
I was driving a 1969 Super Bee 4 on the floor with a nice built engine. In 1979 listening to Don't Look Back album. I was 17 and had the fastest car in high school. Those were the times. Such sweet memories. Feeling satisfied...
Thank you... this is such a great tune, by a phenomenal band. Almost all of their songs are uplifting, and make people feel good inside. That's one man doing both the singing and harmonizing, and that is the late great Brad Delp.
I'm sad for those who didnt grow up with this rock and roll. Too many have missed out on great music. Thanks, Jamel, for doing what you are doing to reintroduce it to another generation that needs it.
The golden voice of lead singer Brad Delp. Brad took his life in 2007. Tom Scholz (guitarist, songwriter, and leader of Boston) said that Brad was one of the kindest and most generous guys he ever knew.
Got lucky to see them in concert for the 4th of July in 1995 Dallas Texas . It was great Warrant was their opening act . Great band always liked Boston. A guy I went to high school with, all he talked about was going to Boston University after High school ( La Porte Texas ) I hope he got to do it , probably the biggest Boston fan I have ever known .
Something in the water back in the 70's....albums full of many, many great tunes:Ted Nugent, Bob Segar, Boston, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Queen, Van Halen, Journey (pre-Steve Perry too), Santana......
Ive never watched a video of yours yet but i knew you would love this song and i knew youd start clapping to it. This song is satisfying on so many levels but the bottom line is it just gives me a good feeling about being alive. Just wish the singer would have gotten the same feeling he gave so many people with his voice.
I want to thank you for bringing all of us together. Every time I watch one of your amazing reactions, someone suggests another great song I forgot. Like Atlanta Rhythm Section - Spooky and then I'm off to the "way back when"
The look on your face when they started the hand clapping was priceless. And your enthusiasm towards this phenomenal group makes me grin every time. A backyard bbq, fire up some Boston, and crack open a cold one... I'd stay 6ft from ya, bro. We'd have to whole neighborhood rockin
Boston, 1978 St. John’s Arena, Columbus, Ohio. My very FIRST rock concert. Tickets 6.50 each. Not a bad song the whole show and they brought the arena DOWN. (It was Ohio State Homecoming Week too so they had OSU banners hanging off the ends of their guitar and bass. Some of the greatest harmonies I’ve heard since. What a band. RIP Brad Delp (lead singer) although Tom Scholz was right there with him. I know I was Feelin Satisfied after that show! Semper Fi ams rock and roll!
It's pure pleasure to see you discover and drink in this timeless masterful music. You have a beautiful outlook on life and a beautiful soul Jamel, Love you, Brotha!
