Boston Fire, Rescue 1 responding to a report of a building fire in East Boston. The first due Engine & Ladder handled a stove fire. The Rescue and the rest of the assignment was returned.
This ride along video should be seen by every child with a dream to be a fireman. Thanks for posting and thanks to Chief of Department and Commissioner Joe Finn for helping make it happen (Cousins George, Grace and Gillian)
I visited the BFD in 1994 for one week. I was staying and going on runs with the fire fighter from back then for one week, now I still have more than 250 digital photobook pages that almost every week enjoy !Great city, great fire fighters !

Great video. Had a friend Artie O'Leary who I knew when he was a reserve with FDNY in the 60's who was on Boston Rescue 1. He spent some time with the NYC Fire Patrol and then went to Hartford Con for a few years before getting on Boston FD. He passed before I could meet up with him again some years back at the Worcester tragedy. Brought back memories of him.
Good video. I like the ride alongs! Would be even better if the camera were facing forward instead of to the side. I like to see the trucks get through the traffic.
They have plenty of stations closer, but R-1is the rescue company in that division. Boston has 2 divisions, divided in to 9 districts. Each division has a rescue company, which responds to every reported fire in their district. It the case of this video, there were already 3 engines, and 2 trucks from the district responding too.
There’s only 2 tunnels to get to East Boston from downtown, you can’t get there in a few minutes, it’s physically impossible. There’s 3 stations already in that community that responded first.
Rescue 2 is the closer rescue but they were on another call so Rescue 1 was dispatched instead. The city of Boston only has 2 Rescue Companies citywide.
