@@princeofcupspoc9073, yeah the go go's had more than Boston right? They must have because they are in along with some rap acts, the remaining members might not even accept after being snubbed for so long, I still hear a Boston song on the radio every day but not the go go's so whatever, the rock and roll hall of fame is a joke
I seen them play this a year earlier at Anaheim Stadium...10times better...they headlines and foreplay was played on a organ that had 30 foot 5" pipes....it was BADASS Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️
If you follow music, albums were big, Boston's production was a brand new sound, I don't know if it still ranks that high, but it was one of the best selling albums in history...if you listen to Foreigner's debut album, same thing: all great songs with insane production
This song. A woman I loved dearly, moved many states away 3 years ago and left me behind. It was tough, it was rough. A few months later, I was driving down i95 (I moved a few states away too to cope), and was blasting this song with my windows down on a sunny Georgia afternoon. Was thinking about her. And then it hit me, this feeling of acceptance. Of letting go. Realizing and understanding that all things come to pass, and that I'll never hear from her again and thats just how it is. I finally felt in my mind and soul, that I was ready to move on. Later than night, she messaged me for the first time since she left, it had been months. Ill never forget that, and I'll never forget the feeling I had hearing this song. The universe is funny sometimes.
I listen to this album (spotify) every trip I make up to my family’s property bout 6 hrs away I start the first hr with their debut album, my children are now big fans. Love your comment!
This album came out when I was a freshman in high school. Yes I am old. The point is that it was revolutionary. No one had ever heard a sound like it. Still have the album and have never tired of it. Boston, Aerosmith, Kansas, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple, The Who, Van Halen, Foreigner, Grand Funk Railroad, BTO, Montrose, and the list goes on. There will never be an era like that again. All Rock 'n Roll titans.
Boston Dont look back was my first album ever. My folks were slightly upset because, my aunt gave it to me on Christmas eve, but my parents had gotten me my first stereo, ... which they didnt give me till the following day, for Christmas, so basically it ruined the surprise, NOT! Anyway, that next day I got the stereo, and the 2nd album I ever had, Rush 2112! FYI, the stereo had AM/FM, turntable AND 8 TRACK! lololol I got into VH, AC/DC, JETHRO TULL, TED NUGENT, ....and then i discovered METAL \M/ !!! It was straight up Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest from then on, for what seemed like an eternity! Then Quiet Riot hit, then Motley Crue, ...and then the whole world changed once again when metallica and megadeth came on the scene. At 16 we started a garage band, I was a singer. But then the next year I bought my first guitar. Started playing Priest and maiden tunes, then yngwie hit, and Joe Satchmo, and Steve Vai, so I pushed myself to play the most difficult stuff. Always a huge Queensryche fan too, and then the NEXT LEVEL of heavy came along when Pantera changed the world again. Then the grunge era started and Soundgarden and my favorite band of all time hit the scene, .....ALICE IN CHAINS!! Today, at 50 yrs young, I front an AIC tribute band in Buffalo Ny, ...I sing Layne while I play Jerry. Music is life! It all started with Boston! Love Boston. They created an absolutely perfect first record. Very sad what happened to Brad. They were certainly one of THE bands in the U.S. for a year after the release of that fist record though. 1976 was an incredible year for great american rock bands BOC, Aerosmith, KIss, Alice, Frampton comes alive, Hotel Califorina, Jail Break, A trick of the tail. all had great albums that year. 76 was an incredible year for great music period.
@@1irishanml Rush 2112, Heart Dreamboat Annie, AC/DC Dirty Deeds, Steve Miller Fly Like an Eagle (although I didn't really care for Steve Miller)....et al.
Sara Nash, were you lucky enough to have heard him sing all kinds of awesome Beatles songs and no dig at the Beatles but to me those songs sounded better with Brad singing them, oh darling, penny Lane, that song written about Paul McCartneys English sheepdog Martha my dear, one of my favorites, I believe that was on the Beatle juice 1996 featuring Brad Delp video on RU-vid
I was born in 1970 and this is one of the first songs I remember ever listening to. I can recall my mother telling my dad to turn the radio up because I loved this song so much! Thank you Boston for that happy memory!!
Virtuosos. So cool seeing Tom Scholz holding a keyboard chord down while a nother person comes in to take it mid-note so he can get the guitar intro started. Wow.
Its debatable....THE CARS debut was really good too....FOREIGNERS first too...TED NUGENTs first was really good....there's others, but yeah BOSTONs first was at least ONE of the Greatest for sure!
Yes it was and to think this was Produced, mixed ect... in Tom Scholz basement no computers back then Totally Genius. By far the best debut album ever.
@@andywilliams6224 Best EVER is a stretch because there are so many Great bands out there! Don't get me wrong, LOVE me some Boston but "Best Ever debut album" is like saying Chocolate cake is the Best dessert ever!
I was 20 years old In 2005, my brother went to South Lake Tahoe to see Boston, unfortunately all I cared about was extreme metal then. I didn’t go. Classic rock was my roots. I loved Boston but I thought I was into ‘cooler underground’ stuff. Cool the jets tour it was. It was a quite small outside venue. He said it was mind blowing. The Hammond B5 organ was huge, it was loud, but perfectly mixed and just epic he said. A couple years later Brad died. I have matured and always kicked my self in the ass for not going to see them an hour away from where I lived. I was an idiot. One of the best rock bands in history, and Brad was an incredible singer. I still regret it 17 years later, what a missed opportunity
What a simple show. Didn’t need fancy lights or half naked dancers to distract the crowd because the member could play and the singer could sing. Rock on Boston!
Fender jazz basses and P basses have a way of pleasantly finding a slot in the mix. Ask any high end producer or engineer. It's a Fender thing. He's playing a jazz bass.
@@TransistorBased Clavinet is also touched a bit in Longtime. It cuts! I have one (since 1985ish) that I was going to sell but I might just keep it. It needs work but since it's mostly a mechanical instrument, I think I can do it.
My favourite Boston song, and I love this performance. Brad looks like he’s doing exactly what he wants to be doing in that moment. The energy is so positive and uplifting. Instant good mood for me. Thanks Brad for all the gifts you gave to the world. Rest in peace, good man.
Without a doubt, Boston is one of the best rock bands of all time. Brad Delp had an amazing voice. It was sad how he had to leave this world with so much talent. I hope your soul is at peace Brad. Rock the heavens with your amazing voice❤️
Myles Siglin we will NEVER FORGET. This song came on the radio when I TOTALLY needed to hear it. TWICE. FIRST when I quit a job to move to Iowa. And the last time I had a drink of alcohol. Taking my time..I'm just moving on.
Brad was a good friend of mine . Hands down the nicest human being I've ever met in my life. I'd give anything to have 20 more years of his friendship... 💔💔💔💔
Justyce02 i don’t doubt that for a second. I met him here in puerto rico and he signed a bunch of stuff and took pics and talked and took time out for me.
This was my first concert ever !! In Boston at the Boston Garden !! Not many people can say that !! EXCELLENT CONCERT !! Been a concert buff ever since !!
I have great memories of this song, living with my grandparents a couple of years ago over summer and listening to the first half of the first Boston album on my way to work and the second half on the walk back, even though they don't know it and have likely never listened to it, this album will always remind me of the precious time spent with them. I am very lucky to still have them in my life. In my 20 short years I have learned to appreciate two things: Family and Rock n Roll!
Thee most incredible band in the world. Boston was my coming of age and I am eternally grateful for their music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Boston.
Being a newly crowned teenager back then was when life was GREAT. The world was alive. And EVERYONE got along. Please God make this a great place once again. Cause right now the world is falling apart!
100! Socialism has creeped in to take away our freedom. Self expression will be cancelled as offensive to some other even with out true cause. Either side of politics is cool : we are USA! Socialism is abject failure and we will lose the true foundation of independence from tyranny , personal freedom and self expression free of oppression. No room for LOVE in the new culture only hate.
I totally agree with you, what I'd give to be able to go back to those days and be able to do it all over again but this time with the wisdom I've learned since then
@@l8tapex FDR really ruined things with the New Deal’s socialist programs to bring us out of the Great Depression. From the Social Security Administration & how it gives people money even beyond what they put in (if grandma only worked to get money to 80, so be it), the Revenue Act raising taxes on the wealthy, Farm Security Administration (socialism for farmers with bad money skills), and the National Industrial Recovery Act regulating “fair wages”. FDR created generations of seniors dependent on Social Security who, due to their own poor saving abilities, should have been thrown out on the street. We all know they don’t get cut off based running out of what they put in. And Medicare, come on. More socialism. Everyone knows America was founded on the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer, and that you should ask for nothing from your tax money. Ideally, we wouldn’t be paying any taxes and getting zero city / county / state / federal services. No military, no national power grid, no water treatment, no city sewer system, no road maintenance or safety systems, no public schools, no public parks, no national parks, no police, no fire department, no snow removal, no national oil reserves, no FAA, etc. Just rugged individualism baby!
I had the privledge of seeing these guys in concert when I was in the 9th grade in 1979. I was in the 3rd row from center stage. Watching them play this song was incredible. Tom Sholz played a huge pipe organ off to the side; Sid threw his drumsticks at me. Who would ever guess they would play a concert in Rapid City, South Dakota, but the place was packed and it was a night I'll never forget.
This song helped me along pacing me during my races. Kept singing to myself, I'm taking my time, I'm just movin' on....I won the tie and won the championship for the swim team. Came out of the blocks in first place and ended in first place. Exhausted and beyond spent. Boston was that voice behind me. They kept me going. :)
Boston should definitely be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their 70s music was some of the best Rock and Roll of all time. Quality is, and always will be the number one factor, not quantity. Would you rather win the Super Bowl one time or lose it 10 times?
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin I was 11 years old when this album broke out I was riding my bicycle and some older kids were washing a car and had this song cranking on an 8-track I kind of pedal slowly around in circles and listen to the song what a jam Boston's first album I believe is the best debut album ever by a band I'm 52 years old now but I still have my long hair rest in peace Brad and sib
It’s your duty to introduce this music to the younger population. My dad once grounded me but gave me access to his CDs and records. That’s how I first heard Let it Bleed by The Rolling Stones. He always a shit-eating grin whenever I mention it. He claims that it was by design but I think it was a happy accident.
Dude I feel the same way much more feel behind the music of Boston then there is any other artist its why I love boston. Also as a bassist how can I not like boston
Boston is right up their with the Doors man. Timeless and their music will never get old. The lyrics, music and riffs are second to none. Truly one of the best rock bands of all time!
Timeless masterpiece. At first i was stunned by the crowd shots that this show looked nowhere near sold out. But thats a testament to how good music was in the era. EVERY weekend had a band of this caliber performing....you cant see them all!
Barry Goudreau’s performance was just AWESOME!!! BOSTON was/is too good for the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame! Barry is my absolute favorite guitarist and he is also way too good for the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame too! 🤩👍
@@cluggyahoo I used to think that, but I disagree. There's a lot of great young, classic style rock n roll acts out there, they're just not getting any exposure. For example; I know people complain about Greeta Van Fleet being a carbon copy of Led Zeppelin, but they're still a solid jam and there are others keeping rock n roll alive. Music is like fashion, it goes in circles, this type of music will probably make a genuine comeback that's not solely relying on nostalgia.
Obviously Tom is the mastermind of the band but Barry deserves a lot of credit. He's an excellent guitarist and he's spot on here. Just listen to him tear it up.
@DB-kl9bp Barry played electric rhythm guitar on both Foreplay and Long Time as well as the lead guitar solo on Long Time on the record so this is all natural to him. He is not copying anyone else's licks. He is just being Barry playing Boston songs
Shit the 70's were great!!!!! I was in my first year of college when this rang through the dorms on Pioneer receivers pushing HPM series speakers. Girls dancing with skin tight jeans, halter tops and no bras!!!
I was 15 years old and fishing in Florida with a friend from there, when Boston burst out on the air and you won’t believe this..serious shit!, a bale of marijuana floated off shore probably dumped by smugglers. We picked it up it was 56lbs. My friend was 20 years old, he sold it and got me drunk and we feasted on Crystals hamburgers. I wish I knew what I know now I would have asked for half! Lol. Best years of my life the 70’s I never missed a day of fun.
DAMN YOU,,,was born in 74,,,I missed that,,,but as a young kid growing up loved hearing my big brother jammin out with all the females you described,,,,MICHAEL....classic rock RULES FOREVERMORE
I was 15 this was my first concert ever! Boston at giants stadium! Can't believe this video I'll never forget my first concert. Yes, there was hardly anyone there. Unbelievable!!! 😄👍
Tom Scholz is still around. He created it all. Brad was just the vocalist. Tom wrote everything from the drums, bass, guitar, lyrics, etc... But Brad could sing, for sure. Everything you hear on the album except for Brad was written and played by Tom. There is one song, though, that the band actually played for the album. But it's all about Tom.
Yea, that's my point. Tom's still out there with his various incarnations of "Boston" yet over all these years none have sounded as good or had even close to the amount of success as this lineup. Barry and Fran played the heck out of it, Brad sang the heck out of it, Sib drummed the heck out of it. There will never again be rock-n- roll like THIS, in my opinion.
I agree Axelle. Those were some great times back then. Some of the Best Rock&Roll from the 70s. I was 20 in 79, and Boston blew the roof off of all back in 76. Then came Van Halen, and that was that.
geezus i cannot believe how well this live gig mirrors the studio. all of those sonic components in Foreplay were played live....and Delp’s harmonies are unreal. we had it so good with 60s, 70s & 80s music.
I still have my Vinyl record of the first album that I've had since I was a kid in the late 70's. My older sister and I would get into fights over sharing it, so my mom went out and got us both a copy. It's not often you come across an album in which every song is a radio worthy hit......and these guys handily pulled that off with the first album.
Back when music was music! This band is part of my soul. I grew up skateboarding to Boston . Sometimes from the time I got up until after dark. I regret never seeing them live.
Boston has to be the biggest musical influence on my life. From the first album until now, if I need to step outside and clear me head...Boston is my soundtrack. Thank you Tom and Brad, and all of the other members throughout the years.
The stage feeds leaves out the sonic nature of their live shows, but, yeah, they were a formidable live unit. Not a note-for-note band, and were all the better for that.
I saw them in 87. The only band I ever thought sounded exactly like the album. Thats not what you always want live, but in this case I did, and loved it!
I was 9 when a friend put on their 1st album on the turntable. I was mesmerized, and they were one of the very first bands to give me goosebumps. Winter 1980, Meridian ID. That album is near perfect 👌 Since then, easily one of my favorite '70s bands of all time. RIP Brad. Clinical Depression is no joke. RIP Sib 🤘🏻💚🤘🏻 "And time doesn’t wait for me, it keeps on rolling."
Oh my Lord! If your my age, how can any of us ever forget when this album was released. It was simply mind blowing wasn't it! And it still blows my mind more than 4 decades later.
I remember when this album came out and it was one of those instant classics like "Frampton Comes Alive" , "Aerosmith Rocks or "Van Halen" that just blew you away with how good the music was. I destroyed several sets of Pioneer speakers and probably my eardrums to this song. Always loved how the Guitar came in so pure after Foreplay. sends chills up my spine even now.
When Boston played in Little Rock, I remember that they were described as, “A screaming armada of a thousand guitars.” Nobody ever got close to their unique sound. I think the transition from Foreplay to Long Time is the smoothest and best I have ever heard. They are certainly one of the best bands of all time in my opinion. Thanks for sharing this video!
This is the first video i have ever seen of BOSTON PLAYING ANY SONG. AND IT IS THEIR BEST IN MY OPINION. Best rock group ever and they challanged all the ithers to step up their game.
I miss this lineup. This was the best lineup and I always said they were ahead of their time. True innovators. I thought when I learned the studio version of this song I was on top of my guitar playing. Thank Boston for all the inspiration for my desire to play.
I wasn't around yet when Boston made there best album Boston in 1976 . Hearing it today just shows how great that album really was even after 39 years . Its truly a master piece , every song is perfect . The album is great from start to finish with not a dull moment . This is in my opinion the greatest 1970's album of all time . I loved it even way more then Pink Floyd's "The Dark side of the moon" .
Fran Sheehan is the greatest bass player to this day. I wish I had been alive To see them play in the 70s. To this day nobody can touch his talent. He was head-banging before anyone knew what head-banging was. I could watch him all day. Amazing.
Boston’s first album came out when I was 13 and I was blown away as were most of my friends. I recall hearing from someone that if you listened to the album on a really nice stereo system you could hear space ships in the background so I was always wondering what I was missing 😂
Missing my friends along the highway of life. My bike riding around our neighborhood street and playing stick ball too. I take my memories and it gets lonely when I remember you. My NY. We fought for fun and we won with fun. Great times 👍❤️
This music came in like a spaceship 1979 I went to this same tour at Oakland Coliseum and I was 11 years old and my brother and sister snuck the pot in sewn into my bell bottoms. I walked up to the guard and told him to look out for them, they're trouble makers! He laughed and let the cute little kid into the Boston concert and the rest is history. :) Love Boston, my default band growing up in Northern California
that was an awesome concert! Living in the SF bay area we got to see ALL the greatest Rock Bands LIVE in their PRIME! who can forget "Day On The Green"
@@rickcoona8368 Do you remember Sammy Hagar coming out swinging on a rope? Eddy Money and Jimmy Lyons were great too that day. But the best song Boston did that day was Goin to Hitch a Ride. Also another highlight was those grand organs Brad was blasting. I remember it like yesterday and I was 11. :) Whoohoooo!
I was just a high schooler when these boys burst on the scene. They were monsters. They kicked ass between 1976-1978 with 10 hits. One my favorite band even today. They just knew how to write good music and they had the voice to go with great guitarist.
@@Keepgoing42 Yeah I really felt these guys were special. Played their music full tilt on Jensen coaxial speakers. Only got to 1 concert tho. 13 rows from stage...
My older brother Donny Roby RIP had this album, and turned me on to this band singing this song and on my Rotten Roby's top favorite 1000s songs of All-time
