This reminded me of the guy back in the fifties who flew the Atlantic in a modified P-51. I remember that he called his engine "Ernest" because he hoped it was. He caught the jetstream to help him along his way. I think that was the first time I heard of the jetstream.
@5000mahmud
@5000mahmud 4 года назад
nemo227 P-51 was able to achieve such a high range not only because of the internal tanks and drop tanks, but also due to the efficient, low drag design. It meant the merlin engine could achieve cruising speed with less HP, and subsequently less fuel consumption. The laminar flow wings, the lofted airframe and the Meredith effect radiator all helped.

The raft has a long tether that you hold when you toss it out. When it reaches the end of it's length, you tug on it to inflate the raft. It's not advisable to tie it off, since it could be dragged down with the plane.

I very much prefer the phrase "No runway available, gear up" the the more common "Positive rate of climb, gear up".
@SocialFlight
@SocialFlight 4 года назад
I used that phrase for years until an instructor convinced me (when flying a single engine aircraft) to leave the gear down as long as there was enough runway ahead to land in case of an engine failure. NTSB reports are full of lots of mishaps when the gear comes up too early for no real reason.
@hammotox83
@hammotox83 3 года назад
“No runway available” is used for single engines. “Positive rate” is used for multi engines, because if you lost an engine in a multi, the gear will create drag and reduce lift.
