She's in no rush to get to the roaches but she makes the most of it when she does. She's still got fluffy-back going on. I'm handy and get the old tripod set up on a second bale while she has a sing and he arrives. He goes straight in on the second bale and she joins him after a little while.
It looked to me like they startled each other into taking off at the end as opposed to heading off on territorial defense.
There's a good scratch at 1:25 - it's amazing how they get their legs around their wings to scratch their faces. She has a bit of a camera inspection at 4:15 - very cute.
The old tripod is a pain on slopes but I've ordered some parts for the bendy one and hopefully that'll fix the issue. Fingers crossed the parts get here sooner rather than later.
They're coming regularly and I'm trying to keep up to date with the videos. I might hide in the house for a couple of afternoons to avoid having to edit more footage :-)

She gets a bale then he gets a bale at Murray’s Bale Restaurant…🪳🪳🪳 Wow, I like the one leg yoga stand! ☸️

Greatest cheek scratch ever. Would one day love to see Murray’s Magpie Tales: a documentary telling the stories of magpies

Not as good bale scratchings today as yesterday was. Lady seems to be getting a little bit more comfortable around you. You may be her prince in shining armor one day coming to her rescue. I'm hoping a bale will turn up something exciting, we've not had before. There's always the odd chance. Have a good one Murray. 👍😀🇦🇺

Maybe I need to check moisture levels under the bales. I'd forgotten about that - things were pretty soggy for a while there after we got some rain but they may need a bit more moisture. Yep, she's getting better. Some days I forget the "no sudden movements" thing and startle her - gotta try and cut down on that. Should help. No snakes though, right? I don't need another one of those in a hurry. The junky peanut butter disappeared from the traps without result. Maybe I've got mice as well as rats. I had a thought and did a little research - 50/50 peanut butter and baking sola is supposed to work. That'll give me a use for the cheap peanut butter and it should attract rodents really well. Have a good one John 👍👍

@@mybackyard36 I don't know what kind of traps you use, but sometimes they're not sensitive enough. Those that failed for me, I would file the tip of the latch pin to make a hair trigger. That guarantees a set off with any disturbance. Be careful not to finger test it though. Ouch!

@@johndavis7944 I've done that before too. I'm using a couple of different types of rat traps and I'm thinking mice might be licking off the PB and I could end up with just the tails 🤕 For a "one size fits all" approach PB and baking powder has the advantage of not having to be checked every morning!😁

Interesting that they don't scratch to uncover food, in the way that chickens do.

Yes, they're not built for it IMO Big belly (on the males) and small feet compared to chickens. They'd have trouble seeing what they're scratching up. Also they use their ears to find a lot of hiding insects and I imagine the beaks are better suited to that than the feet they have trouble looking at. They move some quite large rocks at times with their beaks too! The ladies seem to be the more vigorous diggers.
