This video focuses on the installation of a gas hob and exchanging the jets from natural gas to bottle gas. I check the fail safes and check the gas tight joints for leaks.
Do not attempt to install a gas appliance if you are not competent to do so. This will depend on what country you live in!

I am a Gas Safe registered engineer in England.I would have had fitted that with hard copper pipe,with an isolation valve on the pipe work.I would also have fitted an OPSO regulator outside.

Hi there, I agree with you, hard copper with a valve would be better, the installation here is what was here, and is typical of many installations in Ireland. I am not sure if the logic in Ireland is different and that an installation like this is not considered permanent, (the same as the logic of putting a 13amp plug on a fixed installation in the UK to make it "portable") I don't know. It always frustrates me that the regulators on the gas bottle are the only system of isolation. Although removal of the valve is another pretty reliable form of isolation.

just came across your video... you say "don't do this unless you are a qualified installer" Doesn't make sense.. it you were qualified you wouldn't need this tutorial!! 😂😂

It's hard to say if this is a tutorial, and whether or not you are allowed to do gas work depends on the country that you are in Michael. Some countries want qualifications and some require competence, some require nothing. I post videos like this so that people can see what is involved. People tell me that they find them helpful to see what a tradesman is doing for them. Or maybe I just say it to cover myself. I live in the UK where gas work must be done by someone qualified and registered as a "gas safe" engineer, but this video was not recorded in the UK so different rules apply. If I said "give it a go" would you try it?

I want to buy a Bush standalone cooker but have no mains gas. If I run it from a normal 15kg Calor butane bottle do I need any special regulator or adaptor? Thanks.

It depends on where you live as to the rules that you will have to follow. you will need a regulator for the gas bottle. and you will need a set of jets that are suitable for bottle gas. Make sure that you put the correct jets in the correct holes! Be safe with gas, it costs very little to have an approved installer check it over for you!

Hello I'm installing a gas hob i have a question I'm putting on a lpg pipe nozzle. On the hob i have a rubber gas washer i got in the plumbers merchants. Is it best to use the washer on its own or gas tape. The washer i got was a rubber one most of them I've seen are not rubber. Thanks

I see you edited the tightening of this fitting. How difficult is it to screw in? I have a new cooker and while the fitting looks like 1/2" female parallel BSP thread, my male 1/2" nozzle is such a tight fit I don't want to break it.

Hey, any particular reason why we need to swap these nozzles and how important is it? Only reason asking because I’ve just ordered my mum a hob for her new kitchen and she lives in Sri Lanka, when I mentioned swapping the nozzles to the kitchen designer he said he'd never come across before, so I'm just wondering if this is really necessary?

You want to have the appropriate nozzles for the type of gas you are using. natural gas that is piped to your house is "low" pressure, and tank or bottle (cylinder) gas is "high" pressure. The low pressure nozzles have bigger holes. If you use them with cylinder gas too much gas will come out and vice versa. It is also important to make sure that the right nozzles are in the right place on the hob. The big burner will have a different size nozzle to the small. So to answer your question: if your hob came with the correct nozzles then you won't need to change them, check where you ordered it from.

I have ordered it from a well-known online retailer in SriLanka, as they don't have central gas there, I'm guessing the hobs will probably already come with the correct ones, but I'll double check. Where did you get the barb fitting or the "nipple" as you called it? I'm having awful trouble trying to locate one that's 3/4 inch female. Disappointing that it didn't come with the hob tbh, since it came with LPG jets

I had this one already. In Ireland I usually go to a farmer’s country cooperative supply store. In U.K. BES in Birmingham has all the gas fittings. Have a look at their website.

The hob flames on butane and propane gas should be a clear blue without long yellow tips and / or sooting. If they're not and you are suffering soot deposits on your pans and kettles, then the gas / air adjustment is wrong and it should be set up to burn with a clear blue flame. Butane and propane cylinder gas needs significantly more air to burn cleanly than natural gas does.

@@bootsowen It is usually a gas / air mixing shutter, or an adjustable air collar in the burner pipes which you adjust accordingly for the type of gas you are setting the hob up for, or it will be a screw in the controls, or burners NB this is usually adjusted for the type of gas you are setting up the hob for, butane and propane cylinder gas or refillable propane tank supply needs significantly more air to burn with a clear blue flame than natural gas. You also need the appropriate LPG jet conversion kit from your gas hob manufacturer, the natural gas jets / injectors etc already fitted will not do.
