Great video. As someone who has never been along on an adventure like this, I appreciate the narrative explanation of the process. Thanks for sharing!

I have been to Insula, Alica, and Fishdance several times. You just gave me a whole new reason to go even later in the season than normal! Although I hunt both ducks and grouse it never occurred to me to do so there.

It certainly wasn’t easy, but as you can tell I hardly ever do anything the easy way! I love hunting the backcountry on these remote lakes-always an adventure

I just got into mushroom foraging again, found a nice yellow coral specimen.

Fun! I saw the biggest yellow coral I’ve ever seen in the Quetico last week-it was the size of a soccer ball!

Using orange during a duck hunt is definitely a new way of going about this

We took the orange off when we were in the blind. Since we were jump-shooting in a wilderness area with others likely nearby who weren’t hunting, we wanted to wear the orange to let others know we were hunting in the area.

In late October my wife and I brought a single shot .410 along on our fall fishing trip. It was a blast trolling the shorelines and shooting ducks!

Ive been through Alice all the way into Thomas and looped into snowbank. Long haul from lake 1, but sooo fun.

It is incredible back there! In general, those hard to reach areas of the BWCA are the most enjoyable to visit!

Love your videos! Cast and blast are some of my favorite trips. How do you cook/prepare the merganser?

Thank you!! I agree, nothing better than fresh fish, duck and grouse over the fire. I always do a salt brine with my ducks if I have the time, at least 24 hours. I feel the salt pulls out that gamey taste if they are the less desirable species like merganser. Also, I ALWAYS cook medium or medium rare. With ducks, I feel that overcooking is the #1 reason they end up tough or gamey.
