Pretty cool recipe but, as a tea aficionado, and as a types connoisseur, I wanna know, what black tea did ya choose? I am asking so I can have a good idea of the general taste that we're looking for
When I was living in military dorms and didn't have the cash to buy a lot of different bottles, I would use peach crown and popeyes sweet tea. Looking back, it wasn't the best drink ever, but I'm excited to try this recipe and see how the amaro, peach liquor, and lemon juice improve that original recipe while still giving me waves of nostalgia. Cheers!
Az…don’t hate on our alleys here in Chicago. They’re magical. You put stuff you don’t want anymore out there, turn around, and it’s gone! Looks like a great drink to try this summer Anders, a good reason to use my peach liqueur. I have Averna Amaro, so I’ll try it with that.
Southerner and enjoyer of peach sweet tea here, and you just gave me my Summer 2023 drink. It feels pretty scalable for gatherings as well. Keep ‘em coming Anders!
Yep, you can make this is one of those Gatorade water coolers for big gatherings. Just keep the ice seperate. We would always just put ice around the cooler.
Scalable for parties? Sure, but it'll be very pricey with all that Amaro Nonino. I wonder if there's a good way to sub in a smaller amount of a different amaro? Maybe Montenegro? Somewhere between a 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz? Or maybe 1/4 oz of averna? The Nonino is prob gonna taste best, but if you're doing like a punch bowl of this stuff, I'd look to save some money without sacrificing too much on flavor.
So growing up in Georgia, my sweet Momma boiled the water in her copper bottom pot then added the 2 Lipton tea bags. You wrap the strings around the handle of the pot. Then it brews for about 5 minutes. Next pour the tea into a pitcher, squeeze some extra from the tea bags and add about 3/4 cup of sugar and stir. Once the sugar has dissolved this is when you add the cold water and stir some more. Pour over a glass of ice. Perfection! 🥰 Enjoy y’all!
Can confirm this is 100% correct southern sweet tea lol. My great aunt did the same. Always Lipton. Always wrappin them strings around the pot. Later my grandma would use a wooden clothespin to pin the strings to the side of the pot when she used a bigger one.
(1:44) Southern sweet tea is a simple matter of physics. Sugar doesn't dissolve easily into a cold liquid, like cold tea. You must therefore add sugar while the tea is hot so it dissolves quickly. Typically you make the sweet tea VERY sweet, because you can then dilute it with unsweetened tea to get the balance you want. It's much like using simple syrup instead of granulated sugar in cocktails.
Great recipe as always, Anders! Can't wait to try this. Az at the end was priceless. Always funny but the tirade about porches made me laugh. The two of you are a great yin/yang on this channel. Always enjoyable and informative!
As someone from the South who has sweet tea in the fridge literally at all times, especially this time of year, I've definitely done something like this and loved it. Can't wait to try with the amaro but I'm gonna use my Southern Amaro from High Wire Distilling in Charleston, SC!
Anders your knocked it out of the ballpark on this one.Great drink! Such a good summer drink. I didn’t have the Amaro, but substituted 1/2 oz of Benedictine and used peach brandy for the liqueur. My mint was ready to snip in the garden and it was a great garnish for my drink! I love having Az on the videos with you, she give great commentary.
Served this tonight for a little gathering. Subbed the peach for apricot liqueur since that’s what i had on hand. It was a hit! Thanks for all the great sip, tips, and recipes! Cheers!
I've been experimenting with this recipe and I found that I really like it with a blend of black and lemon tea and a couple dashes of bergamot bitters. What a delicious and dangerous drink!
Been following for a while and love the videos! Not only are you super thorough and provide detailed info on how to build each drink, you provide the history and context that I personally enjoy a ton. So thank you and keep it coming. Also loving how Az is now making more appearances, and she was on fire this episode! You two make a great team.
You even went full “Bless your heart” mode, a Southern term that can be taken sooo many ways. It depends HOW it is said, WHEN it is said, and WHO is saying it. This is a definite must try….and at the end Az looks like a kid that has had too much sweet tea. 😂 Many blessings from the peach state, Georgia.
My favorite party boat drink Peach Sweet Tea pour entire bottle of Evan Williams Peach into a pitcher fill the rest with ice and black tea. Comes out smooth sweet peach flavor that gets everyone feeling real good.
I made this but subbed out the simple syrup with a semi-rich (2:1) demerara syrup and subbed out the amaro nonino for aperol cause that’s what I had. OMG it’s amazing!!!
As a southern gentle sir, we take things a little different than the rest of the country. We take it slow and easy. Sweat tea and drinkin are both a staple of our culture. So we thought why not mix both. You got a problem with how we roll that’s on you and we love you for it.
Hi Anders. Can you please suggest a few cocktails for a garden party? Really enjoy all your content and videos. I've enjoyed making and sampling quite a few of them. Thanks again, and keep the videos coming!!!!
I have a "tea" recipe that I think you will like. It starts with Crown Royal Peach. Then add some fresh squeezed lemon juice, some maple syrup and some sage leaves...shake and strain over an ice block and garnish with more sage. I call it the Mason Dixon.
Just tried it. Pretty delisch! I used Clyde May's Special Reserve 5yr Straight Bourbon Red Label. Vecchio Amaro del Capo, De Kuyper Peach schnapps. Love it for hot days, which is EVERYDAY these days on the West Coast
Good for Az! Quite a few of my family went to VA Tech. I'm from Lynchburg, and one branch of the family lived in Radford. A step-uncle was mayor of Fincastle for a while.
Thanks for creating what will probably be my go-to summer cocktail for a while! Had to fiddle a bit with the recipe, got no amaro nonino, tried ramazotti and even Jäger, but eventually landed on just double the Peach. its just amazing!
Hey y’all, you can always come visit us in the south. We’d love to have you join us. We’re pretty laid back for the most part. After 16 years in NC we moved further south to FL and it’s really great. Hot and humid, but the fish is off the hook and the beaches are great almost all year round. Come visit Sarasota, Venice, and Englewood. There are plenty of Norse family to meet and hang out with. Skol, skol, vikes, skol!
While camping with my southern cousins a couple years ago I came up with a very similar drink that we enjoyed around the camp fire. It had pretty much the same flavors, but in a more readily available in the middle nowhere formula. As I recall, I used a peach flavored bourbon (most likely Jim Beam), a premade ice tea, and a premade lemonade (all available in very large containers at the nearest Walmart). Sometimes it was put together punch style in a pitcher, other times just mixed by the glass. We may also have added a hit of local moonshine to each glass just to kick up the strength for those who wanted to go hard. 😵💫
Yesterday afternoon, as it was hot outside, I was drinking a Mississippi Punch (bourbon, brandy, lemon cordial, chilled water). So your recipe comes at the right moment, a perfect timing! I never had Amaro Nonino, I usually have a bottle of Jagermeister or Rammazotti. So I will definitely try it tomorrow afternoon, as the weather continues to be hot here (bucharest, Romania, south-eastern Europe). Cheers and keep up the good work!
Jägermeister or Ramazzotti don't have the same flavour profile than Amaro Nonino so you know, if you never had it ! :/ One substitute that a lot of people seem to agree is Amaro Montenegro, it's cheaper and more comparable imo. Or maybe Amaro Averna would also be more in the same flavour profile I'd say. It's just a tip, I don't know if Jager would ruin the drink or sth but it won't taste the same I believe :P
@@Kevlar830 Jäger might ruin it for those who don't like the liquorice and anise notes. Ramazzotti will mainly borrow its orangey notes to the drink. According to various opinions I've read, Nonino is lighter in flavour than Ramazzotti or Averna.
@@TravellerRDS Yes it is lighter, lots of flavours are a bit more subtle, that's why I think Montenegro is a good option because it has kind of the same caracteristics but no licorice or anise as far as I know so the result could be totally different. Also the color is light, not like the others we mentioned that are dark brown. That will also affect the drink visually. And I don't have a problem at all with Jager or Ramazzotti (I own all the bottles we've talked about). It's just that I rather stick to the recipe, if I don't own one ingredient, I look for something close. The closest I can :P
Exactly because it was described as being too light I avoided buying it and will continue to steer clear of it. Paying 30 USD on a bottle of "rare" amaro, just to have its flavours lost in the process, didn't seem like the right thing to do. I have tried almost all the bolder ones and enjoyed them. I would like to buy more flavourful and lucrative bottles for this kind of money (useful in more than just a few cocktails). I am aware that you can sip any Amaro on its own, but still... Nonino is not on the top of my list.
@@TravellerRDS Yea ok I can understand, a bit like me who don't really enjoy Aperol Spritz and prefer to replace it with Campari or Select to have more bitterness.. If you like Jäger and its bold and stronger flavours, maybe you could enjoy these ones (if you don't know them yet) : Amaro Lucano, an herbal liqueur called "Valhalla" and Underberg (usually comes in small bottle that you drink in one shot, but interesting in cocktails). Also Fernet Branca or any Fernet style amaro, but you gotta like bitterness if you haven't tried x)
This is actually a drink I’ve made for years called a Kentucky Waterfall. Only difference being no Amaro, and only 2 oz. of unsweetened tea. I think I’ll try it with some Nonino to see what difference it makes. The Kentucky Waterfall is truly one of my favorite summer drinks. So refreshing with the lemon and peach flavors!
Hi Anders… I tried this last night because I thought it might be something I could make in a big batch for a gathering we’re hosting this weekend. Just wanna say that it exceeded expectations… it’s fantastic! Well done! Thanks very much for all the great content! Cheers!
Anders…hello from the South- as I have spent the past 18 hours smoking a Brisket…I have added my version of your beautiful drink… using vermouth cause we don’t have fancy liqueur - but we got peaches and bourbon- and hell yes we used sweet tea!
Well I have sort of a rift on this one, except I use a good spiced rum, with a black tea and sweeten with a peach puree and strain. Perhaps a splash of lime juice or twist of lime. I call it the Peachy Pirate and it is quite nice. The peach liquor is interesting and I may have to play around with. Thanks for all your great videos. Love em!
I’m from the south born and raised. Not a big fan of the peach. I will try it without the peach and use sweet tea. Great idea and can’t wait to make bourbon sweet tea.
I make a biggol batch of bourbon sweet tea for cookouts now n again. Make a super strong/potent batch of tea in an 8qt pot, add sweeteners (usually honey and brown sugar) and stir to dilute. Dump it into one of them orange jug coolers filled with ice to dilute and chill simultaneously. Once chilled dump in a bunch of bourbon and some lemon juice and stir it all together.
Thanks for giving me the final excuse I needed to spring for my first bottle of Nonino! Great recipe, I especially appreciate that you can vary how much to lengthen the drink with the tea depending on how much of a DAY it's been.
Anders, I have been doing something really similar to this but using a black tea syrup. It goes really well with rum and bourbon. It adds a nice sweetness and a concentrated tea flavor. I have been doing a rum punch a lot with some apricot liqueur and the black tea syrup and its been a big hit
I'm curious if going half Amaro Nonino and half Italicus would be good. Italicus is made from bergamot which is used in earl grey, so the tea flavors should blend nicely. Will experiment...
WOW! Fantastic. Talk about the perfect summer drink. I made it today and it was so delicious. I will be enjoying all summer!!!. Thanks Anders. Another incredible drink.
Made this over the past weekend for Father's Day and it was fantastic! What would you suggest for a larger batch version? We have a camping trip, and this would be a nice drink to bring along.
As always, you guys are a hoot to watch! This particular drink won't enter my cocktail repertoire as Bourbon tends to give me headaches. I have a question though: I have a bottle of Cherry Heering which I only use sparingly for Singapore Slings now and then. Can you think of other cocktails using that? Cheers.
I love this. I was in a cocktail slump when I saw this thumbnail in my feed. I made it and loved it. It’s super well rounded and will definitely be a summer staple for me
going to make this with Bully Boy Amaro I have and apricot liquer I picked up for another of your recipes.... use some RYE and bam... getting rid of open alcohol Beveridge!!
This looks so good. I'm not much of a tea drinker but I just may try this. About the Amaro Nonino, I had never heard of it until a local restaurant has a drink on their menu that I'm wild for which they call It's A Man's World which is Old Forester rye whiskey, Amaro Nonino, melted citrus syrup, and orange absinthe. Have no idea of the proportions but would love to recreate it.
This reminds me of the first bourbon cocktail I ever had. I’ve loved bourbon and bourbon cocktails ever since. The problem though is the place I had my first bourbon cocktail doesn’t exist anymore and I can’t quite figure out how to recreate it. It was an in house cocktail and the menu description simply read “Bourbon, Suze, Peach & Citrus”. Served in a low ball glass on the rocks with an orange slice. It’s the “peach & citrus” part I’m not sure how to get.
love your videos, im always looking forward to trying out your recipes and tweaking them to see the enjoyment on a customers face when i give them a cocktail! keep up the good work !
Az, you’re the BEST!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Texan here. Our sweet tea is like tea steeped in double concentrate simple syrup. Lol And you’re right-you add the sugar while it’s still hot. It does NOT taste the same if you put the sugar in when the tea is cold.
😍Sweary Az is the best Az ! Also, ahem. This drink looks amazing. I love the idea of the Amaro Nonino in there to help balance the other flavors. Will definitely try this!
We will definitely have to make this on 1 of our upcoming episodes. Probably the one with the Chattanooga experimental Appalachian Grist. And give you cocktail credit of course. Thanks Anders!
Anders, for cocktails that you serve on the rocks like this, do you ever consider just using the ice it was shaken with? With that ice being colder than ice from the freezer, using new ice (while it’s more aesthetically pleasing) works to dilute the cocktail even further by being used as a second dilution. Essentially, the chilled cocktail has to melt the new ice to cool the new ice down as cold as the chilled cocktail has become after the first dilution. Liquid Intelligence talks about this process.
I started drinking bourbon sweet tea this year, but my recipe is much simpler. 4 oz of bourbon, usually Cooper's Craft, sometimes Four Roses, and about 8 oz of Arizona Green tea, bitters and extra lemon optional. Drink over crushed ice. Sit on my front porch in Georgia with the overhead fans going, listen to Lucero or the Drive-by Truckers, and watch the neighbors walk by as I sip on my bourbon tea after mowing the lawn. That's a good Friday afternoon in the South.
Hi Anders, I have a question about 'chilled black tea' - how strong this tea should be (how many tea bags shoud be used in 120 ml, or if no bags are used, then how many grams of tea leaves should be included)?
Perfect timing for this recipe, as I just started making cold brewed Assam tea. I prefer cold brew much more over steeping tea in hot water, because tea flavor is a lot more concentrated and smooth, which will be a nice component in this cocktail.
Peach Snapple, a shot or so of peach schnapps, any kind of Bourbon, I used Makers Mark one time. I usually use Jack Daniels. Big glass packed with ice, great around the pool drink. Also try Lipton Peach ice tea in 6 packs. I have been making these for years after being inspired Bobby Flay when he mixed up a punch bowl of this on one of his shows years ago. His recipe was somewhat like yours.
The Amaro is super interesting. My wife and I have enjoyed something super similar but instead of simple syrup we use honey, or if you like spice, a hot honey.
Hey anders I recently came across your video from two years ago about the Tradewinds I love the recipe but today as I went to make one I found myself being out of Don Q Gold and the very fancy named peach liquer and instead subbed the Don Q for some Grand Marnier because it has the same ABV as Don Q and I used some Limoncello instead of peach liquor using all equal parts as shown in ur video and MY LORD it’s fantastic not sure if it’s sacrilege to break down a tiki drink and add some French and Italian Liquers but it’s a must try imo
