My review of the Bournemouth Brick Festival, which took place on Saturday 9th September 2023. I discuss what went well at the festival, what didn't and I talk about some of the sets that I sold.
I agree in that it’s best to price items to sell not to keep as a potential sale. I’m glad you had a good day and look forward to seeing you future investment videos.
Thank you Iain. Excellent and informative. Iain, who would you say buys your retired sets? Other dealers or collectors or I'm guessing both? The gifts with purchase are a nice angle and I like that. Thanks mate 👍
Hi ian , I really enjoy your videos especially the last one of Lego retiring list and your top investments to pick . I’m only around the corner in Weymouth. I’m a keen Lego investor and enthusiast. Many thanks and keep up the good work . 👍
Regarding the Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet I think that is one of the times the saying “I wish I knew then what I know now” is very relevant. I wonder how much having your RU-vid channel helps at these Brick Festivals, I know you have said before that you have had people say they watch you but I wonder if there are some people that might not like to say anything but want to buy from you to help support you.
Thanks Barry - ah yes, it only I'd bought more Tie Fighter helmets! At least I got 2 which is more than some. I forgot to mention in the video that I did get quite a few people come up to me to say they watched my channel. Not sure people would make a special trip just to buy something from me, but you never know!
I purchased a tie fighter helmet from argos at rrp a few months before they retired. I then got a voucher for money off so bought a 2nd one for roughly 15% under rrp. However due to being close to Christmas and low on funds I took the original one back for a refund and built the one I kept. Oh how I wish I had kept that one I took back :(
Been waiting for this video, especially as I’ve been going through all my sales this week from the event!! Interesting to see some of the sets you sold, I also was selling 60197 train set and managed to get £130 for that … however, I also sold two of set 75980 for only £100 so you got me there. Great event and a great total of sales for myself, as yourself … also made a killing on the GWP sets!! That’s it for me this year, so roll on next years events and did you notice how quickly the events for the back end of next year sold? Crazy, just about got my bookings in!!
Thanks for watching Lee and glad you also had a busy event. I had the train set on at £99 as it didn't sell at my last event and I had it on there for £110. Plus I only paid £65 for it! Crazy how fast the 2024 events sold out - unfortunately I missed out on the October Southampton event 😕
@@iainsbricks It was really crazy and sorry to hear you missed out on that one … maybe we can talk in the future about joining up on that one as I was able to book tables … something to think about. Anyway like you I also missed, Oxford is my closest and missed out on that one in July!!
Yeh, i think its quite common. Even the Brick Festival volunteers have to pay for parking, or atleast we did when I volunteered for the Carlisle one in May (although this was reimbursed by Brick Festival) The venues should really offer free/discounted parking for people working the event imo 🤷♂️
Something I've seen with some sellers is instead of putting prices on all their stuff they will either use a colour code or a number on the boxes and just write it down on a piece of paper and hang it up
Ah, that's interesting. I price my sets individually so at any particular fair I probably have 100 different prices on show, so I'd probably run out of colours!
As always very interesting Iain, was going to sell at a fair or two myself but a back injury means I have to sell in an alternative way but not prepared to sell on Ebay with all the postal charges and their fees I think wholesaling them to other sellers may work, what do you think ?
If you are selling to other Lego Investors or wholesalers then you can't expect them to pay top dollar for your sets. I've seen Lego sell at auction houses before so that may be an option
Thanks Iain I was prepared to let everything go at what I paid for them, which is 30-50% off the Lego RRP plus sell the GWP at half the current going rate@@iainsbricks
Thanks James. I'd think that most of the people that but from me are buying the sets for their collection or to build, although I'm sure there are a few investors in there as well.
You did really well Iain, but please be careful with all that cash, and if I were you I would pay a local bouncer or someone to escort you to your car at the end; and then watch you're not followed in the car. People would do that for so much cash.
Thanks. I've not got any plans to go to Brickmania Antwerp as a trader I'm afraid. I need to have a think if it's something that I will be able to go to as a Lego fan, as it is quite a way for me to travel.
@@iainsbricks also I noticed the a monkey King set that is retiring has a dragon. That set should do well in retirement. If you could get it on sale. Dragon's do well in retirement. People love dragons.
