Hey there everybody. I made this video to teach an essential right hand bow lick in the Southern Old Time repertoire. I've heard this move called "The Tommy Jarrell Lick" and "The Stock Ending." I didn't have a name for it when I started playing it, so when I went to teach it, I ended up giving it a new name. With my students I call it a "Round Peak." But I digress...
No matter what you call it, this is a really important right hand move for getting that Old Timey sound. I would even argue it is the single most important right hand move. I hope you enjoy the lesson and get a lot out of it.
Contact me to inquire about lessons if you're interested in learning more with this technique, a host of others, or some great tunes and arrangements. I have individual lessons available and group lessons as well, and I'm happy to teach remotely in video chat format. I'll meet you where you are as a player, whether you are a true green beginner or you're looking to take the experience you have to the next level.

Thanks for the lesson! FYI, the ads break up the rhythm of the call-and-response section of the lesson.

Very clearly taught. I’m in the St Louis area and I’ve heard this technique called a bow pulse or bow rock around here. Betse Ellis calls it a swoop bow.

Oh man! I just found your video channel a couple of days ago. I stay constantly in awe watching and listening to your old time fiddling. What brand of strings do you prefer for old time fiddle, steel or synthetic? Thanks, Greg😊
