BOWLING IN A CRICKET MATCH & WEARING A MICROPHONE
On July 21st 2018, I played a one-off league match for Eastcote CC vs Enfiled CC in the Middlesex Premier League Division 2. I hadn't played or trained for 4 months (since the Australian season ended in March) so was uncertain how I'd go. Eastcote is my former club of 5 seasons (2008-2012) so it was great to get back and play a match for them.
For this piece of content, I had my videographer, Will, film my batting and bowling while I wore a microphone to talk through what I was thinking, how I was feeling and what my plans were. This is part three of a unique video series that I hope you'll enjoy and learn something from. Please Like & share and leave a comment below to let me know what you think.

loved it more when you pitched it up slower to the leftie, he was hestiant to attack. if that quicker straight one. was a touch fuller and slightly closer in to his body big chance of an edge. He played that one you bowled very late and lost his shape. Awesome footage man, im a left arm orthodox getting back into it. Great to hear how your mind was working gtood insight and made me think what i would do in a similar scenario! cheers mate.

Generating more torque with your hip swivel, main difference between a part time spinner and a serious one in my opinion, thoughts?
@rahee1231
@rahee1231 5 лет назад
@@kushacademy6214 The pivot is a result of bowling against and driving your weight up and over a braced front leg, while working in tandem with your shoulders. It's quite often misunderstood and misdiagnosed by a lot of coaches. Many club level spinners push the hips right round and swivel right around the front foot. You can do a 360 swivel and add no revs to the ball. It looks to me he is driving up and over the front leg really well. Just because he is not swivelling right through doesn't mean the pivot is at fault. Looks to me he is getting good revs and drop on the ball to be honest! My swivel isn't as pronounced as the majority of other spinners I know but I also turn the ball more than any other spinner I know! I play in an English premier division and its hard work getting any grip on a green top like that! Keep up the good work Scollsy loving the content mate !!

@@Bunsen_Burner Hey! So as a young leg spinner you're going to drag one or two short so don't be too hard on yourself when you do so, just back your stock delivery. In my experience as an offie when I brace my front leg, get up on my tip toe, stay tall and get my weight going over the leg at point of release I tend not to drag many short. For me remembering to stay tall at point of release is important and that's what i tend to tell myself if i am dragging some down - just so I don't then over think things during a match. For your stock leg break however you would want your arm slightly more round arm I guess so it's a slightly different situation here. But I think getting up on your tip toe, transferring your upper body weight with your shoulder rotation going over your front leg at point of release will help you to drag less down. When done properly the pivot will come naturally as a result. By bracing your front leg you keep your upper body back for longer meaning when you do finally snap over your front leg at the last minute you get a power and pace. Think of it as a sling shot and your sling shotting your upper body over your front leg. However in a match just remember to tell yourself to get up on your tiptoe so you don't over complicate and overthink things. This should at least help to keep you in a strong and tall position t point of release and hopefully drag less down ! I hope this helps - good luck and stick at the spin it can be a tough old road sometimes but rewarding nonetheless !

@w0033944 5 лет назад
@@rahee1231 Indeed, his action is better than some specialist spinners in terms of not pivoting round the front leg but instead pivoting over it. I do, however, think he might be able to derive more spin on the ball by completing the rotation; he;s getting his back foot up off the ground, but isn't getting it through in front of him such that he finishes with his right shoulder facing the batsman.
@bannedspencer
@bannedspencer 6 лет назад
How big is the ground? Is it just the camera angle because it looks like the boundaries are about 50m
@harrywilkins1397
@harrywilkins1397 5 лет назад
I played at Eastcote last season, the boundary going up the slope isn't to big at all, (helps that there's a massive tree just inside the rope), the straight boundaries are actually quite small, the boundary going down the hill is a bit longer but because of the slope and the usually quite outfield it doesn't make it to difficult and boundaries aren't to hard to come by on the pitch usually (not that I hit any).

Have you got any advice for a tail end batter who struggles to get off the mark with runs? I can block them out but tend to play on leg stump as I can't play much on leg side. Also struggle to determine which shots to play a straight bat with on the offside.
@cricketmentoring
@cricketmentoring 6 лет назад
id suggest working on your strengths as much as possible and nail them so that if the opportunity comes you know you can score there. Also practice getting off the mark at training. Being able to get off strike for any batsman is very underrated and really helps in getting your innings going.

Hi Philip. Thanks for your comment mate. It's a long story which I will make into a piece of content (article, video, podcast episode) at some point as I've had a few people ask that now. Basically, I went to UK to play league cricket in the Middlesex league, did well and got a trial with Middlesex where I did well and got a contract. That wouldn't be possible being an Aussie without my British passport which I have because my dad was born in the UK. Hope that answers your question mate

Left handers, guys who can catch and gun batters who dabble in offspin are all held in the same regard as teetotallers at Yahl Cricket Club. If you do any of the above, we ask for your baggy brown cap back, refund your subs ( well half of them anyways) and ask you to leave. Of course, we turn a blind eye to said behaviours if you regularly shout rounds :)
