I just love your videos. I wish my grandma was around still making cakes. Watching you makes me miss my grandma. She loved to make cakes and always made it look so easy.
I finally got around to making this lemon cake and this is my report: To start off, the cake is VERY fluffy and soft; just what I expect from a layered cake. Since this cake was an experiment I was prepared for any failures, and the only drawbacks to this cake are the lack of moisture and the taste. But that little problem can easily be fixed. Next time I will add 1/3 cup of oil and that should remedy that problem of dryness. The cake had a SLIGHT lemon taste, but that's not good enough for me. So next time I'll add more lemon extract in addition to using grated lemon zest. So as a whole, I think I will definitely add this recipe to my collection. Thanks Donna...keep these cake mix recipes coming...!!!😉👍
Hi Donna! I use box mixes all the time! We call it "doctoring it up"! My lemon cake is a favorite. It's a little different from your hack. I use the same box mix and add 7 up, melted butter, 4 eggs,, lemon pudding, lemon extract and pour it into a Bundt pan! Then I glaze it! It is delicious! Thank you for making Box cakes OK to bake and talk about ☺️!
@@BeautifulTooCreationsWithDonna hello Donna on this Thursday morning on1-18-23 but anyway yes they have box's of pound cake I have a box having made it's yet I didn't no until I got it's form this Church that's they give out Foods but anyway you in Your Family's have a great blessing day and be safe out there Love u guys PS I use lot's of your Receipes Thank u for sharing your Gifts ❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘🙏🙏🙏🙏
I agree with the lady that commented that this recipe needs some kind of fat, either butter or veg oil. The original box calls for one-half cup oil. This hack has no butter or oil. I would suggest adding 1/2 cup veg oil. I made that change to the recipe, added a Tbl spoon lemon zest and it was perfect. Just a suggestion.....
Hello Ms. Donna, my mother, was the best baker of homemade items. I, on the other hand, am great at semi-homemade items. I tried this hack, but I use cake flour. Try putting lemon curd between the layers... it's amazing. God bless! 😘
Looks wonderful and delicious Ms.Donna. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a cake mix hack. A lot of these bakeries are doing this and probably have for decades. We'll be surprised.
Ms. Donna, I love how you have the tendency to match your shirt to the flavoring or the taste of the cake. I need a Sunday video I miss hearing Pastor Robert's stories. I cackle at your expressions.
People do the best they can with what they have based on what they know. The "play play pound cake" served a purpose. If we can stop judging and be thankful that are were hands that prepared and "break cake" in peace, everybody will be alright. It's just cake. Take a bite and enjoy. Somebody out there loved the cake. I will be using that pound cake hack. Thank you for both.
Ms Donna, have I told you lately how very much I love your haircut. I remember when you were going through the way your hair was doing you. Your so gorgeous no worries anymore. I love this cake, I have every thing to make it so that is what I'm doing tomorrow. The Pound Cake you mentioned is more for a loaf pan not a big box or a lot of mix inside of it. at least that is how it is at my store. It's by the lemon bars, coffee cake, brownies things like that section.. look for it, it's a smaller box...God Bless you and Thank you for the recipe...
Hi Ms. Donna. Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme is the only cake mix l used for years and l would top with a lemon glaze. l would get so many requests for it. I kept baking them but recently they weren’t coming out the same then l realized that Duncan Hines not only made the box size smaller but reduced the amount of cake mix and that’s why my cakes were not coming out right. I will definitely be trying your recipe the next time l bake a lemon supreme pound cake. Thank you for sharing your gift of baking.
Duncan Hines keeps changing their formula; that's why I switched over to Betty Crocker. Betty crocker has reformulated their cake mixes and I love it. The cake layers are higher; almost like their old 18.25oz formula.
Mrs Donna, I just love you guys, and thanks for sharing with the world your baking techniques. I use to bake and stopped but starter again when I got grandkids! Thank you both and God Bless
God bless you! I teared up hearing you say you kept your pans form your mother and how special they are. I hope my kids remember something special about me. ❤
Now, this is the cake my mom taught me to make. She worked for a bakery when I was a child. I don't make pound cakes, but I make layer cakes using this recipe.
Good evening to you both Ms. Donna!!! That cake looks DELICIOUS!! Another one of your cakes I MUST try. Thanks for sharing....stay blessed & have a wonderful evening. I agree...I like the preparation of this one better than the Play Play one too.🥰🥰🥰❤
I enjoy watching you do your cakes myself I love baking Lb cakes also do hack box cakes, your husband to funny. Love your relationship thank you so much for sharing your life with us. May God condition blessing you both.
Thank you! , Mrs Donna for sharing your recipes. This seems like a box but yet still scratch cake because of all your additions to it. I always enjoy you and your husband together.
🤗 Hey Donna... I surely enjoyed watching this video. My mother did all the baking when I was younger, so I never really wanted to do much of it, but you've inspired me to try my hands at it again... thanks for sharing your recipe. That "tall" cake looks delicious. 😋😋
Hey Ms. Donna my kids and I love ❤️ lemon 🍋 cake scratch or box they love it that’s all that matters!! Thanks Ms. Donna I also made this for New Year’s
Honey, take you a basic cake decorating class! I had 3 babies & couldn't afford bought cakes. I said if i could just icing, make a border & write Happy birthday, I'd be happy. Didn't mess with those flowers. With 3 babies & no time, that was just fine! Love your hacks❤
Donna, this looks really good. I am going to try this. I bake scratch cakes and box cakes. It all depends on what kind of time I have. When I do use a box cake, I use butter instead of oil, milk instead of water and an extra egg. Most people can't tell the difference. I like your hack even better and I will try it soon.
Mrs Donna I normally don't comment on anything I watch but I love watching you you say I don't like frosting cakes but you do such a good job I've been baking and selling cakes for years and I think you're doing a great job with your explaining everything you do and I love that dude number one of yours he makes life so much fun The only thing that I would say to you is this when you get ready to stack your cakes turn your 1st 2 layers upside down have the bottom looking at you and it'll be easy for you to do your cake and then put the top one facing up and you'll never fail great blessings to you and your family and keep bringing these Videos they're so fun and informative you give a lot of information I love watching you and so do my husband do too And I love those Philly cheessteak rolls I made them bad boys they were awesome my husband from philly and he loved them
I've been a baker for many years but I don't get it when people ask if you can tell the difference between box and scratch cake. Only difference is that box cake mix is pre cut ingredients.... Flour, baking powder, etc. Scratch cake you're putting in all ingredients yourself. Most important thing is to make sure your product is Moist and Flavored well.
@michelle-thatsitthatsall1137 I do all the time it's just considered a cake extender. Not the one I use but I add water, buttermilk, sugar and flour to mine.
You did a great job icing that cake. I love icing. The only cake I'll eat without icing is Sock It To Me cake. My aunt Bea used to make full 3 layer cakes. Oooooeeee!
That looks delicious! I ordered a new Nordic Ware cake pan that came today. I can't wait to try it when family comes next weekend but the struggle will be deciding WHICH of your cakes to try!!!!
Donna! Omg...this cake hack is SO good. I was hesitant to add the extra cup of flour, but I shouldn't have doubted you. The only difference I made was I substituted one box of Jell-O Instant Lemon Pudding mix for the 1 cup of sugar. I was running low on sugar and the pudding mix is mostly sugar anyway plus some lemon flavor. The texture of this was perfect - dense and moist and flavorful. I baked it in a 9x13 as a sheet cake because with a layer cake I never get enough frosting on the bottom layer! Your frosting is delicious, too...I had to add a few tablespoons of whipping cream because for some reason it was a little too thick - but omg...delicious! Thank you for this hack and for all your videos...I'm a newer subscriber and a neighbor over here in High Point. 👋
"Omg, I been thinking about those Egg rolls every since she made them,👍 I finally got the shredded steak today and will make them tomorrow 😋, can't wait, will probably do this lemon cake as well sheet cake style👍😋❤️, thanks Ms Donna we love your channel, Westcoast Listening 🙏🎧."
Oh Miss Donna thank you so much I don't know how but the good Lord knows when I need to see you the most you remind me of my Southern mama and you make me so happy you and do number one just tickle me thank you so much!!!
I am going to try this WOW!!!! I am telling the truth Mrs. Donna I have use box cake so many years and I never new I could try it like this i will be making this!! Thanks for your input in showing me the difference in just making just a plane old Box cake that's why I love watching your video they always give me good ideas Love you guys number 1 fan!!!
Yum… lemon!!! I’ll take lemon over chocolate any day. It’s so pretty too. I’m really happy to see you doing these semi homemade cakes… You’re gorgeous in yellow… maybe prettier than you are in green. Love you and Robert… You two make me happy to watch. 😇🙏🏻💙You can always say it’s a homemade because you made it at home. That’s why I call it semi homemade!! ❤
I love your short hair cut. Yes I’ve tried the box pound cake several years ago. And dressed it up with real stuff people thought it was all home made for scratch.🎉❤😮
Ok...I'm a strictly scratch baker but I was in a pinch and decided to try this recipe for a friend's birthday. I can't wait to see if she can taste the difference. Thanks for sharing this video.
I tried something similar with German Chocolate Cake mix after watching your other video. It turned out really good and the texture was nice too. I frosted it with a white chocolate coconut cream cheese frosting. Everyone loved it and said it was great. My daughter is not a cake fan, but she loved this one. I’ll type up how I did it and send to you.
Those are the best kind of pans ones that were used before you were born. My sister used one that my grandfather used for cookies, and they always turned out perfect who knew
You do a beautiful job! And I really give praise to the most; high for leading you to teach women to cook and to learn more! I definitely am! Shalom queen
You be on your Micheal Myers vibe when you be pulling those knives out 😂😂😂😂 love your channel by the way content is great. The ending always be hilarious with your husband poppin in at the right time never skip a beat
