Underground exploration of Box Freestone Mine in Wiltshire

Filmed back in May prior to the entrances being sealed up this mine is a huge maze of tunnels extending many miles underground.
The mine had been used for many centuries (possibly dating back as far as the Roman times) and was active up until the 1970s.
The limestone extracted was used to build many of the buildings in the nearby city of Bath and since closing the quarry has become listed as a "Site of Special Scientific Interest" due to the number of bat species roosting in the mine.
Areas of the mine explored on this trip include the "Robot Room" "The Catheral" (which is a large open shaft to the surface) and "The Red Door" which is an entrance into the sealed (and secured) Burlington Nuclear Bunker which used the mines for air intake.
In the summer of 2017 several groups of unprepared people had to be rescued from the mine which sadly resulted in the entrances into the quarry being secured.
