I will say it again. Poor Things is amazing and Emma Stone gives the best performance of her career. We did not watch the same film cause Mark Ruffalo gave a very different performance that he usually gives. Loved it.

It really shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s a musical, because the original is essentially a musical. It has like 8 songs. Candy Man, Cheer Up Charlie, I’ve got a golden ticket, Pure Imagination and the four Oompa Loompa songs

The 2005 remake wasn't a musical except for the Oompa Loompa sequences, so I guess it was unclear which route Wonka would go.

I was stuck in the hospital and finally watched Coco. Wow, I wish I had seen this movie in theaters. Probably the best animated movie I've seen in years. Can't recommend it enough if like me you missed it. I saw the first episode of Obliterated. It was funny but I guess I have to watch more to see how being drunk is going to make a series.

I don't think putting Wish on Disney+ for Christmas is a good idea. Part of the reason why Disney movies are doing so poorly at the box office is because Disney has taught their audience to wait for Disney+ instead, so if anything, I think they should start releasing their movies later on Disney+ if they want people to show up at all when they release a new movie.

When I was a boy, movies didn’t come to VHS until years after they were released in Box Office. The movie release and the home video release were both big events for a blockbuster. Star Wars was 5 years before they made it to VHS and Betamax. Empire was 4 years. Return of the Jedi was 3 years. I didn’t even get to see that one in the theatre. Those were different times.

In Wish's case, it would be doing bad because... it's a bad film. I think it's less people are being taught to wait for films to come to Disney+ and more so they don't want to waste their money on bad films so may as well see it on Disney+ instead

Yup they need to let it just sit for a while regardless of it not doing well. It would be worse to panic and release it to Disney+ now. I actually think they released GoTG3, The Little Mermaid and Elemental too early to Disney+ those should just now be debuting on streaming.

I’ve never been to a movie on Christmas Day since my family and I usually spend that evening visiting other family members but I do plan on catching some movies over the holiday stretch. These include Wonka, Aquaman, Boy and the Heron, Color Purple, Ferrari, and Napoleon.

As a big fan of the original Gladiator I actually have the opposite opinion, I do not really see how to make Gladiator 2 work. The story of the first one was nicely wrapped up, is there actually going to be a gladiator in the second or is it just following Rome's alternate history? I just do not see a lot of narrative space for it to work.

I’m not surprised that Beyoncé’s film is dropping hard at the box office because Renaissance always felt more like a personal documentary meant for streaming, rather than a huge musical event, like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Both “Life Is But A Dream”, released on HBO, and “Homecoming”, released on Netflix, were commercially successful due to the high streaming viewerships for both projects and Renaissance’s documentary style felt more in line with her previous films. Renaissance should have went directly to streaming, either on HBO, Netflix, or Disney +, because it would’ve been more successful there, especially with much lesser competition on streaming in December, than in the theaters!

@Luisarrietaso123- Beyonce is not a flop by any means. Despite Renaissance’s disappointing performance at the box office , it’s still outperforming other concert films before it. Also, her Renaissance Tour was such a financial success globally, earning close to $600 million. Also, concert films are documentaries are made with a super cheap budget and Beyoncé is guaranteed to get half of the total box office revenue. Was it disappointing? Absolutely! But, was it a financial flop? Absolutely not! Neither AMC or Beyoncé lost any money from the film, in fact, both of them actually made money off of the film.

I saw Wonka this weekend with my son. We both enjoyed it. It’s already started it’s 2nd week here in the UK, and my auditorium was at least 2 thirds full. I think a good hold for its 2nd weekend here. Looking forward to Aquaman this coming weekend.

Poor Things made $1.2 million in 82 theaters. A movie like this doesn't make up to $30 million opening weekend in a wide release of 3000 plus theaters. It's still in limited release that's why it has just made only $2.2 million.

I think Chalamet did very well for the film and himself with his publicity appearances in Europe. He is a strong French speaker and his very Euro NYC prep school upbringing makes him very appealing to a lot of European media consumers.

I would not put Wish on Disney Plus until much later. Part of Disneys problem is that everyone is trained to wait a month for their films. They need to prolong that theater to digital window, to encourage audiences to get back into theaters to see their films.

I was wondering how long it used to be before a movie went to video rental. It turns out _Austin Powers_ was released in theaters at the beginning of May 1997 and then "new on video" for rental in mid-October of that year, so 5 1/2 months. I had cable for a summer in 1991 and watched movies from summer 1990 (and one from January 1991) on Showtime, I think, which approximates no-added-cost streaming today.

I don’t think it matters, I wanted to see this film but will wait until it goes to Disney plus. Waiting isn’t a problem when you have two little ones and not much time to go to a theater (without them wiggling everywhere). 😅

Had no idea about it being a musical. I wouldn’t call it that in a classical sense. We saw it 5 days early. It’s a wonderful, nice movie and the music fits right in.

I knew Wonka was a musical going in, which is why I saw it at Dolby theater as opposed to an IMAX one. I’m surprised it made $39 million considering there were only like 10 people in my matinee showing. It was a good movie, but no one knows about it.

I cant imagine anyone was expecting Poor Things to light the box office on fire? Its SO unbelievably niche. strange as all Yorgos Lanthimos movies tend to be, and extremely graphic to boot. the budget is 35 mill. it might just break even, but then again i dont think the success of the movie should be pegged to box office results.

Here's the thing about musicals. They have an audience, and I'm glad that audience gets what they want. But you shouldn't spend a lot of money on a musical bc the audience is very limited.

Poor Things was absolutely brilliant and considering it’s only playing in very limited release, I think it’s doing more than fine. It was never going to post big box office numbers as one could already see from the trailers when they launched that it was a niche film.

My favorite Christmas movie is A Muppet Christmas Carol. I really enjoyed Obliterated, and the creators have hinted at plans for a few seasons (each season in a party city) if the show does well. I laughed a few times throughout season 1, and I really like how the characters interact and deal with situations in theor personal lives and their given missions. Here's hoping we get an official renewal soon!

My daughter and I saw Wonka. We really enjoyed it. I liked his naïveté. I needed some Christmas cheer. Olivia Coleman was awesome. Go see this movie. It will put you in the holiday spirit.

I knew it was a musical going in, thanks to you Grace. My best friend however did not and as soon as Timothee started singing my friend turned to me with a look of shock and a bit of a grimace and said “is this a musical?”, I just giggled. He did however end LOVING the film, the musical numbers and even shed some tears.

Poor Things is one of the best platform launches of the year, for the second weekend PTA not to drop below $10k is a fear actually. Also talking about his films not hitting mainstream is naive, The Favourite made the US equivalent of $200m+ here in the UK lol. North America is not the only market.

Wonka & Color Purple are gonna cut the legs out from Aquaman 2, great scheduling there from WB 🙄 Godzilla Minus One is on track to make 5x its $15m production budget. Rooting for American Fiction (Jeffrey Wright & Cord Jefferson) both at the box office & during awards season.

I loved Wonka so much!!!! I hope it brings in the cash. It deserves it. And it was so crazy that with the trailers you would have had zero idea this was a musical. But thankfully I loved the songs.
